AI Summary
This report presents a critical analysis of a nursing research article focusing on burnout and its impact on compassionate patient care. The study, employing a cross-sectional quantitative design, investigates the relationship between burnout, self-compassion, and barriers to compassion among nurses. The report evaluates the article's reliability, validity, and findings, highlighting the research question, design, and methodology. It assesses the strengths, such as the use of convenient sampling, and weaknesses, including the self-report nature of self-compassion measurement. The analysis concludes that the study is reliable and valid, with findings indicating a correlation between increased burnout and greater barriers to compassionate care. The report also discusses the implications of the research and suggests areas for future investigation, such as interventions to address burnout in nurses and improve patient care outcomes. The article's strengths and weaknesses are evaluated, as well as the implications for future research and recommendations for professional support.

1EVIDENCE BASED NURSING RESEARCH
Introduction:
Burnout in nursing is defined as the mental, physical and the emotional exhaustion. It can lead to
negative consequences in the compassionate patient care (Khamisa, et al., 2016). This essay aims to
critically analyze the article based on burnout and their impact The article is critically analyzed based on
the reliability, validity and findings. The research question, design and method has also been described.
The strength and weakness of the article has also been evaluated.
Critique:
Burnout is considered as one of the barrier in providing effective patient care by the nurses. The
research question formulated in the article is “Does self-compassion mitigate the relationship between
burnout and barriers to compassion?”.
Yes, in the article, the author has provided the reason to evaluate the importance of the research.
It has been described in the article that burnout possess negative consequence in the nurses and also
impair the ability to deliver effective and compassionate care (Dev, et al., 2018) Apart from its adverse
consequences in the nursing field, not much research has been done. In the article has explained the
background of the topic supported by the literature.
The design method used in the article is the cross sectional and the observational design. The
research method used is non-random convenience sampling (Dev, et al., 2018).
Rigorous method of design is of two types: quantitative and qualitative. Quantitative research is
defined as systematic investigation by using computational and statistical techniques, which can be
verified by the experimental or observational means (Morse, 2016). Hence it can be stated that the
research design and method is rigorous.
The study is defined as valid it measures what is intended for. The main aim of the article is to
evaluate the effectiveness of self-compassion to alleviate the barrier between the burnout in the nurses

and the barriers to the compassionate patient care, which is compared in the article by using nurses as
respondents. Hence the study is said to be valid. The reliability of the study is based on the consistency
of the result (Heale & Twycross, 2015). The study is reliable as the result of the study has high internal
reliability with respect to burnout and self-compassion.
The findings of the study indicates that, higher the burnout, more the barriers will be in
compassionate care. The findings has been evaluated in the discussion session. The article has not been
concluded.
Evaluation;
The strength of the article is the research method that is sampling as it is convenient and provides
detailed result. The weakness of the article is the is the measurement of self-compassion, as self-
compassion cannot be measured without the self-report, apart from that the data obtained is not able to
speak experimental and causality design (Dev, et al., 2018). The research article does not contain
conclusion, however only the result is discussed.
After analyzing the result it can be state that the author is able to evaluate the relationship
between the burnout and the self-compassion, which is the main objective of the study. Hence it can be
stated that the author has succeeded in the aim of the study.
By evaluating the paper, it can be stated that in future research in the interference of burnout in
nurses which requires professional support can be conducted (Dev, et al., 2018).
Conclusion:
From the critical analysis of the article it can be concluded that, the study is reliability and valid .
the findings are evaluated. Along with that the strength such as the research design and weakness has
been evaluated. The research design and methods are also evaluated along with the future implication
and recommendation.
