1.0 Description for liking the topic emotional intelligence
Experts says that emotional intelligence (EI) is more important that Intelligence Quotient
(IQ). Gondal and Husain (2013) stated that IQ emphasized more on the surrounding knowledge,
ability to spatial and visual processing, working memory, fluid reasoning and quantitative
reasoning. On the other hand, EQ deals with the person's level of identifying emotions,
controlling those emotions, evaluating and perceiving how others feel and utilizing their
emotions to facilitate social communication with different people Karimi et al. (2014). I feel that
IQ is important to an extent and can be considered as primary determinant for getting success but
it is more applicable in achieving academic goals. However, in order to get success in future and
in workplace, EQ is more important. The role of EQ is to promote self-awareness and
understanding other people skills which help in communicating with those people.
I like the aspect of emotional aspects and its benefits in a workplace that can provide me
an advantage to establish a good reputation with others. Experts also say that IQ can help in
getting a job but in order to sustain in a working environment, EQ helps a person (Preeti 2013). I
have learned that higher the EQ, greater will be the healthy relationships with co-workers and
subordinates. I think that a leader should also have the ability to comprehend the emotions of
others and recognize their demands which triggers the sense of followership for the leader. I
believe that EQ will help me to communicate my feelings and control the emotions in a
constructive manner. I also like this topic because EQ also related to the health of a persona and I
like to know that everything is interrelated. Initially, I felt that organizational communication is
the most important factors to succeed but EQ is something that helps a person to understand the

person in front and then choose the effective way of communication in order to understand then
well.
2.0 Personal reflection
The reason that I find most interesting regarding emotional intelligence is that it is also
related in academic terms. In order to give an exam with proper understanding, it is necessary to
keep the kind cool and feel motivated that I can do well in the exam. On the other hand, if a
student does not have a favorable environment at home, it is not possible to feel encouraged at
the examination centre. Thus, I can say that emotional intelligence can be found from daily
activities and this is the reason I found this aspects the most interesting one. Taken for instance,
emotional intelligence boosts self- awareness that refers to the ability of being confident of
achieving certain goals. I also found the reason of concerning EQ as interesting topic because it
focuses of reaction more than action. Taken for instance, people with high EQ do no complaints
regarding the environment and situation, they intends to find most appropriate solution related to
the situation. Batool (2013) also stated that people with high EQ, take responsibilities for their
actions and remain positive towards the accomplishment of their goals.
Druskat et al. (2013) also depicted that high EQ person is comfortable in any
circumstances and they crave understanding of others easily. They are the most effective leaders
and know the difference between sympathy and empathy. These people do not argue with the
string IQ they have but these people try to resolve every problem without any conflict.
According to me, attitude and intelligence are two strongest points to set example among many
people. I also want to be a leader and get identified among many people. EQ can help me to
understand the emotion of people belong form diverse culture and tradition and allow me to

know their concern. Experts say that motivation comes from effective communication and EQ
helps a person to express the thoughts with clarity and consistency and I want to achieve these
aspects.
3.0 Application of emotional intelligence in present and future professional career
Currently I am a student and I have faced many situations where I felt de-motivated. One
such instance is during my examination when I was not able to score good marks. I feel de-
motivated but some of the teachers are so helpful and motivated me by highlighting my abilities
that I have decided to set goals that can help me to improve my score from the next time. This
approach helped me to identify my strengths and weaknesses regarding achieving academic
goals. This process refers to the ‘self-awareness’ goals of emotional intelligence. Another instant
that I have aced is the problem during group assignment. I have learned about the necessary
things like effective way of communication, representing my thoughts to them and convince my
group member regarding the suitable way to complete the assignment. This highlights the aspect
of ‘effective communication’ of EI.
In future, I want to improve my communication skills with my team members in order to
develop an effective interpersonal relationship with them. In this way, I will be able to express
my thoughts, problems and suggestion for improving some existing process sin the workplace
with the higher authorities. This skill also helps me to be in the managerial position after serving
my service to the organization. Goleman et al. (2013) also depicted that emotionally intelligent
leader should present balance in the working approach. Thus, I want not to create an austere
environment as I believe that subordinates will work more effectively and in a smarter way if
they feel comfortable. I want my team member to grow and utilize their knowledge base to

improve the productivity and profitability of the organization even if they want to accomplish the
goals with new strategies. In future, I also like to develop my ‘intuition’ that will help me to
make quick decisions based on the circumstance. I believe that a person, who have believe on his
work and have trust on the actions that he takes, it is easy for the person to convince other
regarding the effectiveness of the chosen procedure. I want to inspire my team members and
motivate them with their preferable way of motivation. This means that some people motivate by
financially while some can be motivated through non-financial ways like a complementary off or
weekend holiday package with family. I want to understand what my subordinate want from me
to accomplish the organizational goals.
