The academic skills that I’ve developed studying this module includes information skills,
planning/writing skill and IT skills. In learning the above skills, I was able to understand very
well that I need to identify the books/journal/websites, avoid plagiarism and use references using
AU Harvard and the resultant citation of these references in the information skills (Rose and
et.al., 2020). In planning/writing skills, activities like brainstorming of ideas, planning the work,
reflective writing and paraphrasing went really well and was very interesting to do. IT skills
included the most interesting tasks which has all gone well like navigating, iLearn to look for the
required resources, using of search engines, creating of word documents and using power point.
In learning the above skills, certain tasks were complicated and did not go well as
compared to other tasks. In the information skills, evaluating the credibility of the sources and
maintenance of the academic integrity are the tasks which didn’t go so well and I need to work
on these tasks more. In planning/writing skills, writing of introduction and conclusion and
informal & academic writing did not go so well as these were based on general ideas and thus
lacked interest and therefore, will need more efforts now from my end.
The studying of academic skills which included information skills in which I learnt how
to do referencing and the respective citation, how to identify the books/journal/websites, how to
avoid plagiarism, etc. Planning/writing skills in which I learnt how to brainstorm the ideas, how
to plan the work to be written, how to paraphrase, how to do reflective writing, etc. IT skills in
which I learnt how to navigate iLearn, how to user search engines, how to create the word
documents and how to use Power Point (Amini and Samani, 2021). I came to know the
importance of having these skills in the academic as well as professional life. In the academic
life I felt more in control with my studies, I am better organised than I was earlier and had and
have the confidence of facing new challenges as I progress further towards my degree and
professional career.
In my view, the most important action and skill that I will be taking forward to Year 1 of
my degree programme is planning/writing skills. This is because the studies in the degree
programme will require brainstorming of new ideas time to time and also I will have to plan how
I will be writing my work (Van Rooij, Jansen and van de Grift, 2018). Summarising of ideas will
also be required along with reflective, informal and academic writing.
