1PERSONAL REFLECTION JOURNAL
I was recruited shortly after the completion of my course by ABC Pvt. Ltd, as a
general employee for the organization. It was at this time I observed the importance of
combining the critical elements of an organization and analyzing the impact it has on one
another. Our organization consists of many systems including production, sales, human
resources, research and development and others, and if these systems do not work together, it
would affect the operations of the company greatly. It was at this time I learnt the relevance
of systems thinking discipline.
While working in an organization, I got to know the importance of having a shared
vision. Since communication flow was suitable among us team members, we were aware of
what was required to be done and together we worked hard in order to achieve it (Örtenblad,
2013). This discipline of Senge was felt to be humanist and secular in nature.
The third discipline of team learning was applicable for our organization since almost
all the decisions that were taken were first put into discussion. It felt good being able to
provide your own thoughts and ideas to the organization’s decision making process. It was
during the time of discussion that one individual came up with a creative idea of great
significance. I felt that this discipline showed me that knowledge is not always helpful and
sometimes mutual co-operation and teamwork is more significant in solving a problem.
I was recruited by the organization on the basis of my qualification and skills. As time
progressed, I observed that one of the employees failed to perform the tasks up to the mark
and soon quit the organization out of frustration and being completely demotivated. This
allowed me to realize the importance of the mental model discipline. I observed that the
practice of meditation was helpful to calm my mind and generate productive thoughts.
During the time of my recruitment, it would be wrong to say that I had a complete
idea of my strengths, weakness, passion and beliefs. However, with the progression of time, I

realized the priority of these factors and that this in turn affected my interest and motivation
towards the job. I realized that I actually enjoyed performing my work since it was on par
with my skills, proving the last discipline, personal mastery to be significant as well. I
observed this discipline to be very relatable to Buddhist teachings, which talk about
understanding one’s true nature and potentials (Senge, 2006).
