The paper is focused on identifying the role of business analytics and data privacy in
contemporary organizations. While doing so, the research on both will be conducted while
covering different aspects like relationship, implications, effects of data privacy on business
analytics, and many more. With the help of this discussion, both the terms data privacy and
business analytics will be defined in general. In addition, the key impacts of BA on DP will
also be included here. While conducting BA, there are some major concerns related to data
privacy hence the understanding related to these DP concerns is necessary. The research has
found that in this era several IoT-driven devices are delivering real-time data to contemporary
organizations all across the world while allowing intimate entry within the lives of customers
worldwide. In this way, this discussion has successfully defined and described data privacy
and business analytics for modern firms and businesses.

Business Analytics and Privacy
Introduction
The essay is based on researching Business Analytics (BA) and Data Privacy (DP)
while defining as well as analysing relationships between DP and BA. With the help of this
discussion, both the terms data privacy and business analytics will be defined in general. In
addition, the key impacts of BA on DP will also be included here. While conducting BA,
there are some major concerns related to data privacy hence the understanding related to
these DP concerns is necessary (Norton Lifelock, 2020). Apart from this, the essay will also
highlight numerous privacy-related implications of BA in the context of contemporary
organizations. Moreover, after doing this, the essay will contain my reflection on the
implications of BA as well as DP for future career and life in society. Lastly, the whole
discussion will be summarized at the end of the essay.
Business analytics
In order to define BA, it is a set of skills, practices, technologies, for continuous
iterative exploration as well as investigation of previous business performance. Such practice
aims to further gain drive and insight business planning for the future. In other words, BA is
iterative, or we can say methodical exploration of the data of an organization, along with an
emphasis on statistical analysis. In addition, BA is utilised by modern companies as they are
committed to making efficient, effective and data-driven decisions (Trkman, McCormack, De
Oliveira, & Ladeira, 2010).
The application of BA can be seen as Internet of Things (IoT) which is being typically
used by the contemporary organizations. It is because, IoT is being effectively used for
business analytics with the analysis of big data volumes produced by the associated devices
in businesses. IoT is making business analytics possible by optimizing operations, controlling
processes automatically, engaging increased customers, as well as empowering employees
within modern businesses (Oracle, 2020).

Data Privacy
In order to define data privacy, it can be said that the process in which information or
data should be handled on the basis of its relative importance is known as data privacy. In the
digital era, the concept of data privacy is typically used so as to protect critical personal
information, which is also known as personal health information (PHI) and personally
identifiable information (PII) (Trkman, McCormack, De Oliveira, & Ladeira, 2010). Apart
from this, data privacy can be related to key personal information such as health and medical
records, social security numbers, financial data, bank account, and credit card numbers and
many more. A user’s data privacy is also contained sensitive information, like complete
names, birthdates, and addresses ( Mortier, Debussche, & César, 2019).
Role of data privacy (DP)
With this discussion, the role of DP in modern BA activities is being realized. In the
contemporary business environment, data privacy plays an important role because data
should be kept private and protected. On the other hand, a data breach at an organization can
put proprietary data in the hands of hackers, cybercriminals and thereby key competitors
( Mortier, Debussche, & César, 2019).
Apart from this, data privacy is strongly related to business analytics when businesses
use BA for accomplishing sustainable business design and model, data privacy can be
compromised hence BA activities should be done within data privacy and security issues.
Here, Cambridge Analytica and Facebook examples can be taken as a string of events in
recent years which emphasized the major difficulties of dealing BA activities and DP in the
digital competitive environment (Petrescu & S. Krishen , 2018). While conducting BA
activities in modern organizations, data aggregation, data mining, data forecasting, and
predictive analytics are usually done hence data privacy guidelines, law, rules, must be kept
into consideration so that effective BA activities can be executed in favour of organizational
success and development (MicroStrategy, 2020).
Two data privacy-related implications
In order to evaluate the data privacy implications on organizations, there are two data
privacy-related implications for contemporary organizations while utilising business analytics
(Norton Lifelock, 2020). The two DP related implications are as follows:

In contemporary organizations, data privacy in research has great implications for
business. In this context, data privacy in research helps in enhancing reuse and
discoverability in businesses. In addition to that, the key issues confronting data breaches as
well as data privacy in modern business practice might affect researchers’ minds and attitudes
for further sharing important data publicly (Humavox, 2016).
Data privacy in the IoT
It has been found that IoT based data privacy has novel applications in organizations
that allow businesses to solve issues and create opportunities for diverse publics include other
businesses, consumers, policymakers and communities. In addition, data privacy in IoT also
resolves issues and costs related to user privacy (Lerner, 2019).
Reflection
According to me, there are so many important ways to protect your data. I studied and
hence consider that BA refers to the process of sorting, processing, collating, and studying
business data, while typically using statistical models as well as iterative methodologies. BA
is used for further transforming data within business insights (Oracle, 2020). I have also
analysed that the key goal of BA is to determine the key useful datasets which can be used to
resolve key issues and thereby increase efficiency, revenue, and productivity in contemporary
businesses (MicroStrategy, 2020).
My opinion about the relationship between the DP and BA is that their intersection
while considering marketing analytics is majorly important for business growth and
development. I believe that analyzing digital data privacy is essential in order to build trust
through great business practices in BA. When BA activities are conducted within data
privacy issues and frameworks, then it improves marketing analytical activities largely
(Lerner, 2019). In this context, the implications of BA and DP for my career or life in society
are that without data privacy I cannot survive in society (Humavox, 2016). It is because the
safety and security of the PII and PHI of my family members, relatives, colleagues,
organization and most importantly mine, is important. From the career perspective, the topic
of BA interests me a lot hence I will try to pursue my career in the BA related field so that I

can demonstrate effective DP practices in the society while becoming a data analyst, or
business intelligence analyst or management analyst (MicroStrategy, 2020).
Conclusion
In whole, the essay has explored recent trends in Business Analytics (BA) as well as
data privacy implications. With the help of IoT, an application of BA in organizations has
been demonstrated. The discussion has found the inter-relation between BA and DP
successfully. It has been found that several IoT-driven devices are delivering real-time data to
contemporary organizations all across the world while allowing intimate entry within the
lives of customers worldwide. In addition to that, personal reflection on DP and BA allowed
exploring career options in the Business Analytics field. In this way, this discussion has
successfully defined and described data privacy and business analytics while inter-relating to
each other in the context of contemporary organizations.
