Personal Statement
From a tender age, Business management has been my ultimate objective. Besides, the desire
to master new ideas, concepts as well as techniques have influenced my choice of business
and accounting as I per take an HND course in business management. Having knowledge in
business and management would help in effectively transition my path to management.
I have to mention that my desire and interest in business management started while I was
young. I grew up in a local convenience store hence got involved with the business. However,
studying business at the GCSE strengthened this interest and knew that one day; my dream
would become a reality. My experience in business had been reinforced with the new
concepts as well as theories learned in school. Even though management was a childhood
dream, I was sure that I would love to pursue it as a career.
During the summer breaks, I used to do some voluntary work in a small company that used
Individual Learning Accounts as the primary sources of income. Even though I was there for
only a few weeks, it was a great experience since I gained insight into the operations of a
partnership. It was the first time I practiced accounting. It helped me with my business
courses since it was my work to input data and do the computation for the company. Since
then, I have worked as a finance assistant at Boot Property Team, where I handled cost
management across company property expenditure and bank reconciliation. I have also
worked as an accounts assistant and account clerk in two different companies.
I have enough work experience that has prepared me for the challenge of getting into
management. Currently, I am working as the Finance and Construction site Assistant; at this
position, I am expected to deliver accountancy, bookkeeping, and financial analysis reporting
directly into Financial Accountant. I consider this position busy and demanding since I am
also expected to manage, control, and continually analyse multiple co-current construction
projects. Sometimes, I get the chance to work as the manager of the same officer. It is during
this time that I observed how decisions were made as well as the risks were taken in business.
The challenge that comes with the management position has only reinforced my interest in
business management as well as business studies in general. Gaining adequate knowledge
needed a proper grasp of all the mathematical techniques. However, this was extremely
demoralizing and challenging since I could not understand certain theories and put them into
the application. Nonetheless, with dedicating and hard work, my knowledge, as well as skills
in accounting and mathematics, has improved for the better.
During my spare time, I socialize and take part in sports activities. Even though I am married
and juggle this was work and studying, I find extra time to enjoy my interest. When I am not
golfing or boxing, I do charity work with the local temple and lions club over the weekends.
Once or twice a week, I play football with the local football club and visit the gym three
times a week. However, work and education take a lot of my team, and besides my marriage;
the two have remained my primary focus.
My nature to be committed to whatever I pursue has made me be a hardworking and
conscientious employee and student. My primary strength in business is the decision-making
ability and quick application of given strategies to actual situations, which have been evident
over the five years that I have worked as a finance assistant. I have implemented promotional
techniques as well as motivational strategies, all of which are considered qualities of an
effective leader.

I believe that University life would be challenging, but the reward would be worth it. The
chance to join your University would be a stepping-stone towards developing my career in
business management.
