The “Business of Being Born” is a documentary film exploring the ways childbirths are
approached in the United States. It highlights the healthcare system of the United States and
depicts the trends of the US healthcare system towards the normal process of birth. The
movie has highlighted different ways of childbirth commonly approached under the medical
system of the United States. The examination of traditional home childbirth in comparison to
the modernized mechanism of childbirth with the incorporation of various technological
aspects in the Healthcare system has been compared in the movie. The limitations of hospital
childbirths have been enumerated in this movie. The responsibility of the medical
establishment in controlling the process of childbirth from the psychological and economic
point of views has also been depicted. The argument of the hospital establishments regarding
their claims that the hospital is the safest place for childbirth has also been questioned. The
movie has also criticized shortly the conventional “lithotomy” position of giving birth to the
child. It has shown that this position could impact the pelvic muscles of the mothers. The
movie has focused on the nursing expertise but it has also highlighted that obstetric care
should also be taken well care of. The United States spends huge resources on childbirth. But
the main issue is that the childbirths are attended very less by the midwives in the United
States. The movie has failed to explain the difference between nursing midwives and other
midwives. This movie can be considered to be a powerful call for or the mother's for women's
ability to give birth to their children and it also shows the transformative experience of the
women giving new lives. The comments from different patients and health experts have also
been focused and balanced in this movie. It has mainly focused on the physician-driven birth
