INTRODUCTION
Business communication is refers as a process to convey information from a person,
group to another within and outside of organisation. Effective business communication ensures
that organisational goals should be obtained within defined time period. It is important to present
opinions, executing decisions and effective meeting. Business United is a international institute
Business Communicationof Business Management in London. In this report various theories of
organisational communication that facilitate an organisation to transfer regarding information in
effective manner are being covered. Barriers are the most unwanted obstacles in communication
that effect an organisation's activities and some strategies that are important to overcome the
effect of these barriers are covered in report(Boone,Kurtz, and Berston, 2019)..
TASK
Theories of organisational communication
Communication is a process to convey information, thoughts and opinion from one place
or person to another by using effecting medium. Effective communication is required in any
organisation to transfer mutual understanding to perform task efficiently without any conflict.
Various theories are formulated for effective communication in organisation are follows:
Actor-Network Theory (ANT)- Actor-Network Theory reflects that human and non-
human factors plays important and equal role in attainment of technological Business
Communicationadvancement and knowledge conception scientifically. In this theory this
is described that how a person create networks to others and use these networks in their
success. The respective theory declares that a single person is not liable for such
advancements, therefore human as well as networks contribute to attain specific
outcome (Clevenger, and MacGregor, 2019). In Business United official meetings are
held to to take decisions about organisation or students.
Adaptive Structuration Theory (AST) – Organisation decides rules and resources to
achieve their objectives which are define in symmetrical and structural form. The
structure develops a life cycle of work to their employees. Effective decisions are
depends upon the quality of structure and structure is also effects by the decisions that are
taken by organisation. In context of Business United, which maintains rules and allocate

ll resources in a proper structure, this structure is followed by every member of
organisation. This improves effective working and removes conflicts regarding
responsibilities.
Communication Accommodation Theory – Communication Accommodation Theory
states that when people change or accommodate their way and style of communication to
make it understandable to others. Divergence and convergence are two ways to change
verbal as well as non verbal communication style. Divergence is used by the strong
ethics and convergence is powerless person who concentrate on change their
communication style according to others. In respect of Business United, which focus on
the accommodation of communication style according to their organisation. All students
of college should create their awareness about that and behave accordingly(Dobrodolac,
and et. al., 2018).
Confirmation Bias- Confirmation Bias theory is explains that every one has a selective
perspective or mind set about the world. They will only choose that information and
media of communication that effects and strengthen their life beliefs. Business United use
this theory in their college to communicate important news to their employees and to
students which are related to them and effect their beliefs and values. The organisation
choose selective approach to convey relatable information.
Barriers of communication
Barriers are the some obstacles in communication that effect the whole organisation.
They can be create by the sender or the receiver(Walden, Jung and Westerman, 2017). Business
United is also faces barriers in communication that effects their efficiency of completing task
within defined time period. Those barriers are following:
Semantic Barriers – Semantic barriers are those problems that are raised at the time of
coding and decoding of particular message of communication. These are raised because
of choosing wrong words and misunderstand or fault translation of message. When a
message is badly expressed such as there are inadequate vocabulary and wrong words are
used, precipitant will not able to decode that message in the same way what sender wants
to explain(Dwyer, and Hopwood, 2019).. Business United faces semantic barriers in their
communication process because of using symbols with having different meaning,
unclassified assumptions, technical jargon and body language and gestures in decoding.

Psychological Barriers- Psychological barriers create great impact and influence on
effective communication. These barriers are depend upon the mind state ans
psychological factors of sender and receiver both such as anger, happiness, pride and
sadness(Ruesch, and et. al.,2017). There are various psychological barriers which effect
communication such as lake of attention and reading unprepared message creates
conflicts between sender and receiver. In Business United loss of transmission or can say
poor retention is found in this situation message is lost partially when is pass to different
level of organisation. Trust is also the most powerful factor which effects communication
in an organisation(England, Nagel, and Salter, 2020)..
Organisational barrier- Organisational barrier influence effective communication that
are related to organisational structure, rules and regulations and relationship of
organisation to others. If an organisational follows centralised policy then it is very
difficult to flow of information from a level to another, creates more conflicts and
enhance the time of decision making process. Business United faces various
organisational barrier due to strict rules and regulations, complexity of organisational
structure that contains various managerial level. Communication can be effected by not
having proper medium or facilities in organization to pass that message to another level.
Personal barriers- Personal barriers also effect communication process that are related
to personal factors of communicator as well as receiver. Some time fear of authority
make barrier and sometime superior do not have confidence on abilities of their
subordinates advise and opinions. Unwillingness of communication and lake of
incentives also crest barrier within the organisation. In respect of Business United, have
different personal reasons or factors are exist which effect the flow of information and
make it difficult for organisation to achieve their objectives(John,2018).
Strategies to overcome communication barriers
Now these days organisation are facing various barriers in communication. The message
that is send by communicator is not perceived or interpreted by receiver in same manner will be
cause of communication break down, so it will become essential to deal with that barriers to
maintain smooth communication. Some strategies are following:
Follow up communication process- Organisation should continuously try to find the
weaknesses of communication process to make it more effective. Each and every level of

communication is examined by the organization to remove obstacles and try to make
process more appropriate to convey message(Kayikci, 2019).. Business United should
choose proper medium of communication should be adopted by the organisation that
saves time and send the particular message the same without having any lose in meaning
of context. Follow up the whole process and remove weakness if there is any and ensure
effective communication.
Active listening - To overcome the barrier in communication the sender as well as the
receiver should be good listener. Both communicator and receiver of message should
listen massage carefully with proper attention and positive attitude. If a person carefully
listen the problem half of problem will be solve there. Business United should listen all
suggestions and opinions of there employees carefully and adopt them for the betterment
of process. Students and teachers of that college also listen all communicate message
from authorities.
Simple organisational structure- Simple organisation structure should be adopted by
the respective organisation. Hierarchical level should be well defined and optimum,
organisation policies, rules and regulations should be clear at all level of organisation.
Business United should adopt the simple structure, so relative information can easily
communicate at all level of organisation, the simpler organizational structure, rules and
regulations are the effective will be communication happened(Lipschultz, 2017).
Use simple language and eliminate noise level- To make communication more effective
simple and clear words should be used and jargon are avoided. Noise are the unwanted
obstacles in communication. Business United should include clear word and eliminate
that level which increase noise in communication, it is being important to find out the
level of noise for effective and efficient working. Proper medium of communication
should be adopted by respective college to save time(Oussii, and Klibi, 2017)..
CONCLUSION
From the above report, it can be concluded that business communication is very
important factor that is responsible for the success of business. Communication conveys all
necessary information, data and opinions within as well as outside of organisation. Business
United should adopt proper way of communication, maintain hierarchy and structure to
