INTRODUCTION
Business Communication can be defined as
a process that involves sharing of information
between two people at or outside the workplace.
The main purpose of effective business
communication is to improve the overall
practices within an organization by reducing
errors. It also helps in generating new and
effective business ideas so that the overall
efficiency of the business can be enhanced. This
poster explains the different barriers to
communication on London Underground,
strategies to overcome these barriers and cultural
awareness.
MAIN BODY
Q1. Communication Barriers on London
Underground
Tourists sometimes carry smelly foods such
as French fries, burgers etc. in the tube.
This can act as a major barrier of
communication between the tourists and
local Londoners. People shout and push
each other. Sometime the local might even
talk rudely which can initiate a fight.
Physical barriers like noise, closed doors
and use of faulty equipment are the most
common barriers to effective
communication. Therefore, it is important
to use appropriate and effective equipment
on London Underground.
Since people from different parts of the
world visit London, they speak different
language which the Londoners might not
be able to understand. This can also pose
to be as one of the communication barriers
on London Underground.
Q2. Strategies to overcome communication
barriers on London Underground
In order to overcome the barrier of
arguments or fights, food inside the tube
should not be allowed. This will ease out
the process of communication between the
Londoners and tourists. Also, the local
people should be aware that their
behaviour represents their city and hence
they should speak politely to the tourists.
Effective equipment like a communication
app should be used so that people can
communicate with each other without any
difficulty. This can be an effective
strategy in order to overcome different
barriers of communication.
Londoners should remain aware of the
fact that the tourists come from different
cultural backgrounds. Therefore, in order
to communicate something, instead of
using their regional language, English
should be used. This will ensure that
effective two-way communication takes
place.
Q3. Cultural awareness
London is a culturally diverse destination
where people from different parts of the world
visit each year. One of the greatest ways for
tourists to commute around the city is to use
the London Underground rail network, which
is also called “The Tube”. The network is
divided into nine zones, where in Central
London is covered by zone 1. The culture of
the London city is mostly comprised of
museums, music, festivals etc. The city is
considered to be the cultural capital of the
world. A lot of different languages are spoken
by the local Londoners, but English is
considered to be their first language. Apart
from this, London offers a wide range of food
cuisines to the tourists. Therefore, it is
important for them to be aware of the city’s
culture when they plan a visit there.
CONCLUSION
From the poster, it can be concluded that
effective communication is important for a
smooth and proper understanding of
messages. Not only this, it also helps in
building trust among people as well as
provides a clarity and direction. This further
leads to a creation of healthy relationship
among people.
