Introduction
In the recent time, communications plays a significant role. Without effective
communication, it is not possible to overcome from the challenges that organisation is facing.
Whenever people from different cultural background works, different challenges faced by the
organisation such as conflicts, language barrier ad well as cultural barrier. In order to
overcome these challenges, several strategies are required to adopt that is further discussed in
the paper.
Business Communication: forms and challenges faced by the organisation and strategies
to overcome them
Brewster, Hegewisch, Mayne and Tregaskis (2017) has rightly stated that organisational
communication has grown continuously from the last few decades. It has become significant
part in the organisation due to people of different cultural background. Weberian theory also
states organisations should have clear roles and responsibilities by making the
communication in structured, hierarchical, and clear manner. This theory will be important to
the organisation by ensuring that the correct specialisation and other different activities.
Under the task specialisation, task is divided into the simple categories based on the
functional specialisation and competencies. Under this, every employee will be responsible
for their own work by providing them specific place in the organisation. specific rules and
requirement will be made in order to ensure the uniformity. Some strict rules will be made so
that organisation can achieve more easily uniformity. Efforts of employees will also be made
better coordinated with the help of rules and regulations (berger, 2016).
In this regard, Binder (2016) stated that communication is the process of transmitting as well
as receive the message. The person who sends the message is known as sender. As compare
to this, sender who tends to receive the message is known as receiver. Response that is given
after the receiver of message is known as feedback. In simple words, it has also stated
communication as the exchange of messages. Communication is most significant part of the
organisation further guide the team members regarding different information and news. If
proper communication is being done, it will lead to clear understanding regarding different

Communication challenges and the way to overcome them
When members of different culture work together, it is true that communication barriers
occur related to culture, language or different goals. Cultural plays is the significant challenge
to the cultural communication within the organisation. it is because the people of different
cultural might speak different language. Several strategies can prove to be helpful in order to
remove the cultural barriers in communication. Polite and clear communication is the first
and foremost form that tends to reduce the chances of crises and surprises.
In the organisation, different teams are formed and each has different goals. This tends to
create the conflict in the organisation. In order to keep one goal among the members, it will
create the core purpose, core values, and goals for ensuring success in the long run. A
strategic plan will be created in order to keep the team members on the same track. Individual
progress will also be made visible to each person in the organisation. Employees will also be
taught that the personal goals tend to impact the large picture. Every team member will be
making sure that they are aware regarding the overall organisation goals. Each goal will be
connected to the strategic priorities of the organisation (Eberly, Joshi and Konzal, 2007). The
major challenge that organisation is facing is related to the mismanagement between the
britishers and non-britishers. Conflict theory has rightly stated that conflict is the natural state
in the organisation. In this regard, it has further said that upper management should strive to
motivate the lower level management. In this theory, communication takes the role of
preventing problems, resolving conflict between different groups of people. If team members
will be effectively taught the meaning of this theory, they will be given the direction to
achieve the single goal. In this way, this theory works toward the single goal for every
member of the organisation. Under this theory, employees are taught to obey the rules and
working smoothly (Merkl-Davies and Brennan, 2017).
In order to work on the communication barrier between britishers and non britishers, an
effective working environment will be created that supports the diversity. Basics will be
taught to the team members so that they come to understand the best way to implement and
understand techniques. Different team building exercise will be done in the organisation such
as games, group discussions. Group discussion is proved to be the most effective tool in the
organisation where each member of the team come together and work. This further increased
their level of understanding with each other. When the level of understanding with each other
increases, automatically conflict level reduces. This will help the members in accepting the
different persist in the multicultural team. Diversity training will also be provided in order to

ensure that employees learn how to become culturally mindful. Using such exercise,
employees will not only be accepted but also valued in the organisation. Effective internal
communication will be ensured by sharing and exchanging the ideas based on respect, mutual
awareness, as well as credibility (Battiston, Blanes and Kirchmaier, 2017).
In spite of this, awareness will also be developed regarding the individual culture. Employees
will be taught the basics regarding each culture so that they will be ensured the importance of
communication with different cultural people. When employees start communicating across
culture, they start practising patience and work well to increase their understanding and
knowledge regarding different cultures. It is significant for the employees to know the basic
nature of each person including their culture. When employees will be aware regarding
different aspects of the communication, they will understand the process of communication
that will further help them in smooth functioning (Little, 2016).
In this way, it is clear that diversity training will prove to be helpful for the organisation as
well as employees by ensuring the higher level of productivity. Diversity training will help in
a great way to foster the inclusive culture of work, encourage leadership and teamwork,
create new opportunities, and thus create the positive culture of work. Therefore, training is
the best strategy to embrace the cultural differences in co-workers. Diversity training also
raises the awareness to know the value of collaborating with people from different cultural
background, genders, races, beliefs, ethnicities, ideas and experiences. It will also teach the
employees how the different concepts such as unconscious bias, cultural competency, and
workplace sensitivity apply into the real world situation. Using such training program, it will
be ensured to develop the inclusive actions and inclusive thinking that will further lead to
more productive working environment. Taking the diversity training, employees will also
know the comfort level of each employee. If employees will become familiar regarding with
each person cultural difference, this will lead to improvement in the communication habit.
Communication in negotiation said to be the means through which negotiators can achieve
the goals, build strong relationships, as well as resolve the disputes. At the time of
negotiation, communication becomes more significant due to the people from different
cultures. Problem solving conversation can be held regarding the difficulties that are mainly
faced by the people from different culture.

Principles of effective communication
For ensuring an effective communication, business will follow several principles of
communication. The first principle of communication is the principle of clarity. Under this
principle, message is passed in clear and concise manner. This ensures the understanding all
members regarding message. By conveying the clear message in the mind of communicator,
message will be conveyed properly (Lindsey, King, Hebl and Levine, 2015). When
communicator knows how to communicate the message with its receivers, it will help it in
passing to its receivers the same. The second principle of communication is principle of
objective. Under this, communicator will be clearly conveyed the purpose of communication
so that it can be transmitted properly. This will help in giving the proper information to each
team member. Clear objective will be discussed with the communicator. According to that,
right mode of communication will be used that will further assist the members in best
manner. Understanding is also one such major aim of the communicator. The principle of
understanding states that communication is required to create proper understanding of the
message in receiver’s mind. In this regard, Killian has also stated that communication with
the awareness of proper human and physical setting in which information is being received.
There are times when members are at the same place. Therefore this principle will assist in
choosing the right medium of communication at this time (Phillips, Deiches, Morrison, Chan,
and Bezyak, 2016).
Principle of consistency states that the communicated message should be consistent with
policies, plans, gaols, and programmes of the business. If communication will not create
confusion, it will lead to success of the practice. Completeness in the message is also required
to be complete and adequate so that the receiver should not misunderstand it. Inadequate
communication also delayed action that further affects the efficiency of the parties. In the
organisation too, problem of different goals is being seen. This mostly happens due to the
confusion. There are times employees are seen confused regarding their tasks and
responsibilities. Due to this, they made their team goals as per their own. If complete message
will not be transferred, team members will take the meaning of message according to them. It
might be possible that they misunderstood the meaning and start working on them
inadequately. In order to enhance the practice, principle of feedback plays a significant role.
Feedback is two way process of communication that further gives the opportunity for
criticism and suggestion to both receiver and sender. Receiver will be influenced to consider
the suggestion of the sender in proper manner (Tench, Verčič, Zerfass, Moreno and

Verhoeven, 2017). In the process of feedback, if any team member is facing problem from
any member, it can discuss at the same time. Due to this, face to face meeting is proved to be
the best method in the form of communication. The last principle of communication is the
principle of time. it states that information should be communication at the right time in right
manner. This this, communicator is required to be consider the communication timing so that
desired response is considered in receivers mind.
The entire principles of communication can lead to overcoming of the entire challenges that
team members face in organisation. When message will be clear to the employees, it is
obvious that they will be familiar of what task they are required to do and what are their
different responsibilities. It will synchronise each activity of the organisation and in the end,
common goal will be achieved effectively and efficiently. Principles are therefore said to be
the clear guidelines that further helps the employees to understand their priorities for the
organisation. In this way, the clear understanding of each principle is significant for the
further growth of the organisation (Hugches, 2018).
Conclusion
In the limelight of above discussion, it can be concluded that effective communication plays a
significant role in overcoming different barriers. Due the increasing cultural differences, team
members are forming conflict (TingToomey, 2015). Due to this, conflict is required to
eliminate with the use of several communication strategies. Diversity training is the most
significant strategy that helps in eliminating the communication challenges. With the help of
such training, employees get the clear understating regarding importance of different cultural
people in organisation. in addition to this, several principles of communication also present
that further lead to the effective communication between the team members of the
organisation. Principles are said to be guidelines that is required to be followed by
communicator as well as receiver. If communicator will be clear regarding the messages,
receiver will also get the same meaning and further achieve the goals effectively.
Organisation can work on the different principles of communication by taking group meeting
time to time.
