INTRODUCTION
Business communication skills are defined as those accomplishment which helps to
influence through different ways in which employees convey their message and information to
other individual that is related with enterprise where they are performing work (Addams and
Allred, 2015). It is essential for an organisation to have highly skilled employees in order to
interact with other members. The given report is based on Mr Fishy which is fish and chips
restaurants located at London, Bridge station. This provide hot dish that contains fried fish in
batter in order to serve with chips. The main aim of report is to discuss about purpose and
principles of organisational communications along with principles of effective communication to
enhance themselves and others.
LITERATURE REVIEW
Purpose and principles behind different forms of organisational communication
Purpose of Communication
According to the view of Bovée, Thill and Raina, (2016), purpose of communication is
getting things to be done from others. People who are employing as well as performing work in
organisation should be aware about work that is allotted to them in appropriate manner. In
respect of fish and chip restaurants, their purpose is delivering and sharing relevant information
and data to each and every employee in order to execute responsibilities and roles to them. Some
of the purpose of communication are mentioned below:
Flow of Information- This is very essential for business to possess effective flow of
communication in order to share information from top to bottom. This assist in enhancement of
productivity and accomplishment of goal and objectives in given time period. The management
of respective restaurants has to modify their policies in order to communicate properly with their
employees. In this case, administration has to deliver correct information to their work force
which help them to interact with their senior authority along with performance of roles and
duties.
Coordination- It is also the purpose of communication which ensure about performance
of staffs as per requirement of organisation. In context of fish and chips restaurant, manager has
to coordinate with their work force in order to meet final objectives and aims of business. For
proper coordination, management has to conduct sessions to improve language as well as

restaurants, coordination is must to attain set goal and objectives.

As per view of Khan and et. al., (2017), the flow of communication is regarded as
essential tool in business that can be in the form of formal or informal. Main principles behind
different forms of organisational communication is segregation of several channels of
communication in proper manner which are used by business in order to provide relevant
information to work force on regular basis.
Formal Communication- This is defined as communication in which data and
information are flown in formal manner from one to another (Principles of Organizational
Communication, 2020). Each of the business possess formal communication which helps in
effective flow of information of business. In context of fish and chips restaurants, management
of business has to implement and using formal for sharing and transferring information within
employees in proper way. With adoption of such communication channel, organisation can
reduce gap and issues arise due to communication.
Informal Communication- This is defined as unofficial as well as casual form to make
communication with use of several channels to interact with others. Information is transferred
between two or more individual without adopting any rules, methods, formalities, systems,
process and others. The respective restaurants can use such form of communication to provide
relevant information to staffs so that they can perform in proper manner. For instance, such type
is used by enterprise in case of emergency situation or sharing relevant information among
employees in regards with differences of time among countries that assist in running business in
effective manner.
Principles of effective communication to enhance practice
This is very important for organisation to have effective communication in business so
that they can attain set goal and objectives. Some of the principles of effective communication to
enhance practice are as follows:
Principle of Clarity- It is the principle that focus on transferring clear data and
information to their working forces (Principles of Effective Communication, 2020). There should
be clarity and transparency of messages as well as information that is delivered by business to
their manager and employees so that they are aware of issues and situation. The respective

restaurants has to follow such principles in their workplace to take proper orders of customer and
provide them with ordered foods.
Principle of Consistency- It is the principle which state about following of
communication in context of consistency of policies, plans and objectives (Cenere and et. al.,
2015). Fish and chips restaurants should formulate new plans and policies to overcome from
arise situations along with building confidence among working force to avoid confusion in
employee's mind and to accomplish goal and objectives.
Apart from these, other principles of effective communication includes objective,
understanding receiver, completeness, feedback and others. This should be followed in business
for positive results.
Communication practices of themselves and others
According to opinion of Coffelt, Baker and Corey, (2016), communication is defined as
range of different activities whereas communication practices is referred as listening as well as
talking, reading & writing, witnessing and performing, and doing those things which involves
messages through situation or medium . It is very important for organisation to follow
communication practices for themselves and other so that goal and objectives can be attained in
effective manner. Some of the communication practices followed by fish and chips restaurants
are described below:
Communication Practices of Themselves
Keep good sense of humour- The good personality of manager helps business to attain
their desired goal and objectives (Haylett, 2016). It is important for business to have positive
working culture. If manager brings good humour into situation then there is chance of losing
mood and leads to convey message in clear tone. In respect of restaurant business, manager
should possess good sense of humour for making proper relation with their working force as well
as developing proper working culture so that they can perform in better manner.
Be relatable- This is important for organisation to have effective communication which
help them to become aware of working force and attain set outcomes. Fish and chips restaurants
along with management of organisation has to connect their employees, customers and employer
with each other so that they avail services. As company is implementing new policies and using
different strategies in order to deal with communication gap issue in this context management

has to understand their consumers in best manner and accordingly select communication
channel.
Communication Practices of Others
Avoid negative body language- Body language also plays an effective role in delivering
as well as conveying message to the audience. It is essential to avoid negative body language
which leads wrong or worse impression in mind of high authority. Fish and chips restaurant
should focus on using positive and good body language such as handshake, eye contact and
others with their employees that helps in creation of positive personality as well as developing
self-confidence among each others.
Listen actively- The individuals who have good ability of effective listening will possess
positive attitude towards listener (Khan and et. al., 2017). If each and every workforce working
at fish and chips restaurants has effective listening ability then there is no chances of issues or
complexities. This also reduces chances of confusion and achieving aim and objectives in most
effective and efficient manner. This also assist in creating relationship with business and their
employees. For example, three guest arrive at fish and chips restaurant then employees working
over their should listen to them in proper manner and take order. If they does not listen to them
and takes wrong order then it decline image of restaurant at marketplace.
ANALYSIS AND DISCUSSION
According to view of Anthony and Garner, (2016), communication is defined as process
of transferring ideas and information from one person to another with help of channels. This is
regarded as main element of organisation's success as well as growth that helps in improving
profitability and productivity of enterprise. In order to make effective communication at
workplace, it is significant for business to apply proper tools, methods and techniques so that
information and data can be shared as well as transferred by speaking and writing. The proper
channel of communication assists administration of business in sharing relevant data and
information to all working force. This helps to make communication effective through
coordinating each and every personnel. Effective communication helps in accepting all
management skills to flow relevant information as well as beliefs in developing proper business
ideas.

The report summarised that business communication skill is essential to achieve goal and
objectives of organisation by interacting with them in effective and efficient manner.
Communication is regarded as important tool as well as way of sharing information and
implementing new plans, policies and strategies in business. For effective interaction, company
has to adapt formal communication to minimize ineffective as well as miscommunication at
workplace. Effective principle of communication has to be applied in business to enhance
working force and attain set goal and objectives.
