TASK 2
Achieveing Academic Success
On the basis of learning styles stated by Kolb, I believe I have a converging style of
learning. It includes abstract conceptualization and active experimentation (Conner and Hodgins,
2000). I am good at applying the knowledge and learnings of modules to find the solutions to
practical issues. I have an attraction for solving technical problems and issues using my
knowledge and learnings. I believe experimenting with new ideas and practical application of
knowledge is what stimulates and motivates me which can be used to determined my converging
style of learning.
With an objective of making maximum use of my learning style and potential, I believe
time-management is an important skills for me to master. As an adult student, time-management
is of crucial importance. Attending regular classes, skill development classes or completion of
assignments are some of the aspects of a student’s life that require a great deal of effective time-
management. I understand the role of time-management which will help me to learn more and
acquire more knowledge in a much shorter span of time. It will also help me to take leverage of
every opportunity and focus on my personal as well as professional development in light of
future success.
Critical thinking can be termed as the process on independent and rational thinking which
involves evaluation of both positive and negative aspects of a subject to form a judgement or an
opinion. I can apply critical thinking skills to form logical connections between my learning
modules and practical application. Application of critical thinking skills will also help me to
become an active learner rather than passive recipient of information which will have a great
influence on my learnings and skill development as a student.
TASK 3
Models of Business Communication
Aristotle’s persuasion model of communication is considered as a one-sided model of
business communication which has three basic elements; a sender, message and a receiver. This
model is evidently used when a political leader delivers a speech (White, 2006). Under this
model, the role of receiver is neglected and he doesn’t respond to any communication by the
sender. Sender prepares a speech considering the motive and objective of persuasion and aligns it

with the needs of audience. This type of communication model is very important in any business
organisation to develop employee commitment and participation for achieveing the vision of the
organisation. It is also important to motivate the workforce for accomplishment of organisational
goals and objectives.
Newcomb’s interpersonal model of business communication is also another important
model where there exists three parties in the process of effective communication in the
organisation. In this model, exchange of information between two parties usually happens
through a third party which acts as a mediator (Barnlund, 1968). This model of business
communication is also important in an organisational context to exchange information between
top-management and employees at subordinate position where a third party can filter and
transmit relevant information to the top-management.
Barriers to successful business communication includes separation of physical elements
essential for the process of communication, using wrong channel or medium of communication,
ineffective understanding of the audience’s needs, influence and manipulation by the third party
involved in the process of communication, organisational structure and other distractions such as
lack of electronic devices or the personal interest of the person transmitting information.
