BUSINESS COMMUNICATION AND ACADEMIC WRITING
Part B
Introduction
The goal of business communication is to communicate a specific message between
two parties namely the sender and the receiver. The sender communicates a certain
message to the receiver and expects that the receiver would understand the message
clearly. The receiver also expects that some kind of benefit would be received from the
sender because of the communication (Cornelissen and Cornelissen 2017). In the unit, I have
learned about the concept of business communication and academic writing. This unit
describes that communication is an important part of a business. Without the proper
communication, none of the occurring of the business would reach the other individuals who
are associated with it.
Business Communication
In the first part of the unit, I had to communicate certain materials to different
individuals. I was assuming my role as the communications manager of Commonwealth
Bank, where I was conducting an annual dinner for the employees of the organization, along
with the clients and special guests like politicians and celebrities. Firstly, I had to email an
invitation letter to the staff of the Commonwealth Bank. This communication was necessary
because the employees are what build up and contribute to the success of the organization.
It is due to them that the organization is being able to conduct a grand dinner. Hence, it is
mandatory that the staff be invited to the annual dinner. If the email would not have been
sent, then the staff would have been unaware about the event and would have come to
know about it at a later period, resulting in a major chaos within the organization. Secondly, I
wrote an invitation letter to a special guest, which was equally important because it is
necessary that important people like politicians or celebrities grace an event, as this will help
in the goodwill of the organization. The input and speech given by the special guests would
act as a motivation for the employees of the organization and enable them to work harder
and showcase their talents (Živković 2014). Thirdly, I had to submit a progress report to the
Chief Executive Officer of the company. This was done because someone from the top
management, especially the CEO, because she will be able to provide the necessary
feedbacks and pointers that will be helpful in making the event a success (Stronge 2018).

The progress report will also help in understanding the decisions that have been taken to
conduct the event. Lastly, I constructed a report structure which will be used to make a final
event report after the event has been conducted. This report structure contains the point or
key elements on the basis of which the final report will be made. It is mandatory to make the
final report as it will contain the challenges that have been faced during the event and the
success that have been achieved due to the event.
From the above part, I have learnt a number of lessons that would be helpful to me
during my academic course. First and foremost, I have learnt that a very clear
communication is needed between my peers and classmates. This would ensure that both of
us receive all the information about the lessons that have been taught in the class. If clear
communication is not present between me and my classmates, then both of us could miss
out on important news or lessons that have been spoken in the classroom or outside.
Secondly, it is important to listen to the instructions and the wordings of the lecturers as
they can impart precious knowledge to us. Especially the lecturers who are a visiting faculty
to the university can provide beneficial knowledge about the practical occurring of the life
and I can implement them to gain more success as I move forward in my life. Thirdly, I
should always try to communicate with my teachers and share my progress with them. This
is because they are the ones who can help me to understand what is going wrong in my
lessons and how I can improve upon them. The feedback that is given by them will help me
in understanding in what way can I proceed with my lessons so that I can derive good
academic results (Zarraonandia et al. 2013). Without proper communication with my
teachers, I will be unable to overcome the problems that I have been facing alone in my
studies and also not understand the current status of my academics. Lastly, I should prepare
a structure according to which I can proceed in my studies. The structure will help me to
understand the way in which I shall start my preparation and in which way I can easily grasp
the content which is available to me. Creating a study pattern is the most important thing
that I should do. This way I can pay attention to the parts where I lack in and strengthen
them with repeated studying.
This unit has taught me it important to understand and take feedbacks from the
teachers because they are the ones that know better about our academic status and can
guide us in the right direction. I should also concentrate more on the areas which I am weak

in rather than repeat studying the areas which are my strength. This is why the academic
structure is important as it acts like a report for our final result. Clear communication with
the teachers is also an important aspect as well as clear communication with my friends and
classmates, as information can be available from anywhere.
Conclusion
Choosing the right kind of communication path and the right way to connect with the
other individuals around us is very important to succeed in any task. In the field of
academics, good relation and communication is mandatory with the teachers and classmates
so that help can be received during any problems that is faced by me. Communication is
important in any kind of scenario to get the best result possible and to deny any kind of
miscommunication or misinterpretation of information.
