Communication Style Reflective Essay
Introduction
This essay is based on communication style where I will use the communication style
assessment finished in my class. With the help of this essay, I will identify as well as assess
my preferred communication style so that it will become easier to reflect upon importance of
communication styles (Summers & Smith, 2010). Furthermore, my attempts will contain
taking feedback on my communication style by two friends, class-mates or other people.

Reflection
With this business communication module, I have learnt that communication is an
essential element of the complete skill set. In my opinion, communicating clearly and
effectively in our own comfort zone and environment is challenging enough, but when it
needs to communicate in different cultures then it is more challenging than our own comfort
zone. Thus, to me being capable to communicate in the new era of cultural diversity is most
important thing ever (Summers & Smith, 2010). In this context, post business communication
module I understood that the two types of communication styles exist truly no matter what
culture I am in. As per my views, verbal as well as non-verbal communication styles exists
irrespective of the surrounding culture and environment. For an instance, my abroad studies

made me realize that verbal communication is entirely different and difficult because of the
language barriers. Hence, the major problem while communicating with diverse cultured
people was faced as understanding as well as utilizing the suitable colloquialisms with
metaphoric phrases. Still, learning diverse phrases and languages was quite interesting for
me. I also enjoyed when the locals were founding my way of communication funny while I
was trying to adopt their communication styles (zkjadoon, 2015).

Although, numerous topics exist to be covered under the discussion of communication
yet I chose communication styles in the face of cultural intelligence and diversity. The reason
behind is, I have currently faced many communication style issues and hence I decided to
reflect upon the same. In this context, a discussion about my communication style which is of
an influencer will take place. Being an influencer from the communication styles perspective
I learnt as well as understood how to effectively communicate in diverse cultures in order to
be successful in my future career. By adopting influencer communication style, I learnt to be
an outgoing and enthusiastic person while communicating with others. I evaluated my past
experiences and analysed them in order to be relationship oriented communicator. As I
mentioned in the previous part that I enjoy when people around me finds my influenced
communication ways funny, hence it clearly denotes that I am a lively as well as optimistic
communicator (Putnam & Nicotera, 2009).
Furthermore, being an influencer I own an open as well as warm communication
style. Besides, being liked by surrounding people is very critical to me. My relaxed
communication style is an apparent reflection of my desire to be loved (Cooren, Kuhn,
Cornelissen, & Clark, 2011). Moreover, my strength as an influencer is that I am good at
influencing people around me. I carry an optimistic, happy as well as laid-back nature.
Furthermore, some challenges which I face due to my influencer communication style
include over-commitment and under delivery. In addition, as per my belief I can be easily
influenced through deeply emotional appeals, which are again a weakness of my
communication style.

Conclusion
In conclusion, cultural intelligence has been successfully discussed from the
perspective of communication styles. I also identified my own communication style as an
influencer and assessed my communication style as well. I evaluated the desired attributes of
my communication styles so that I can leverage them in my future career development.
Finally, I have understood the role of effective communication styles to cope up with cultural
diversity.
