In today’s competitive business world, organisations rely on effective communication
in order to generate a competitive advantage in the market. There are different characteristics
of exemplary business communication which are necessary to be evaluated by companies in
order to engage in effective interaction between employees and the management. Digital
communication is a form of business communication in which Facebook is chosen by modern
organisations as a tool in order to promote engagement between their global teams (Tiago &
Verissimo, 2014). Facebook is a social media platform which allows individuals and
businesses to use digital devices in order to share information and communicate through
digital medium. One of the key characteristics of using Facebook for business
communication is engagement between different members; Facebook facilitates real time
interaction between teams that are working in separate locations. Another key characteristic
is efficient participation of all members who can contribute their ideas and messages on a
single platform which is accessible for everyone (Pagani & Pardo, 2017). This characteristic
is not available in case of face-to-face communication or other form of verbal communication
since parties find it difficult to keep track of their data.
There are different options available for companies when they rely on Facebook since
it offers services such as messaging, video conferencing, real-time data sharing and others.
Companies can rely on Facebook in order to promote engagement between employees which
allows them to collaborate on complex projects and deliver them within the deadline. Another
key characteristic of Facebook is that it is highly cost-effective since it does not requires any
additional costs and it is accessible from laptop, computers, smartphones and other electronic
devices. Facebook is used by many leading companies for internal communications; for
example, Fortune reported that 300 companies which include Royal Bank of Scotland use
Facebook in the workplace for communication purposes (Clancy, 2016). Due to its
characteristics, Facebook has become an effective tool for internal communication in
organisations globally.
