INTRODUCTION
The business communication is a process of exchange of information between individuals
within or outside of the organisation. Effective communication between employees and
management assist in accomplish the goal of the organisation. The effective communication can
be take place only when there is continue flow of information takes place from both side. The
feedbacks in business communication represents proper exchange of information. The business
communication plays an important role in directing and controlling an employees of the
organisation. Such communications are goal oriented which is made by considering certain rules
and regulations. Effective business communication helps in attaining target of the business which
enhanced the brand value of the organisation (Brown, 2020). This report will cover the
importance of communication skills with the help of general theories of organisational
communication. The later part of it analyse the barriers which prevent the student from returning
to campus along with strategies adopted by university to overcome from such barriers.

Discuss some general theories of organisational communication.
There are various types of organisational communication which plays an important role
in developing and boasting organisational communication among the stakeholders, employees
and society. As the communication is the mutual exchange of information between individual
and group of individual in an organisation. It can be made vertically, horizontally, directly and
indirectly within the organisation. The effective communication helps in completing their task in
prescribed time. There are 7C's which make a communication effective such as clarity, courtesy,
completeness, concreteness, consideration, conciseness, correctness. There are certain general
theories which make the communication effective in an organisation which are mentioned below:
Bureaucracy theory: This theory emphasis on implementation of hierarchical system
within the organisation. The founder of this theory was max weber as per the theorist the
members of the organisation used hierarchical system while communicating with the top level
management of an organisation ( Cooper, 2019). As per this theory for making ideal organisation
structure of impersonal communication will be used for protecting the worker from the superior
officials of the organisation by focusing on emotional factor of the workforce. The theorist of
this theory was belong to classical school which believes in strictness on the employees by

emphasised on standardisation and specialization in work with the help of channels of commands
in order to make effective communication within the organisation.
General system theory: This theory based on the functional approach in the
organisation. This theory was propounded by Ludwig von bertalanffly, as per the founder the
formation of organisation made in different parts which are inter related to each other. The
ineffective communication can affect the whole system of the organisation. As per this theory
there are certain factors such as money, labour, transfer of energy, resources and so on affect the
communication. The pounder of it belong to system school which believes on work beyond the
prescribed limits for making effectively communication.
Functional approach of organisational culture: as per this theory corporate culture is
am important asset of the organisation. This theory was developed by Deal and Kennedy, as per
the theorist organisational culture helps in identifying the role of worker towards other worker.
The corporate culture includes cooperative functional environment, rights, effective rituals and
networks. The developer of this theory belongs to culture perspectives which focus on creating
competitive environment in an organisation. This theory develop competitive spirit among
employees which generate innovative ideas in an employees which ultimately support the growth
of the organisation.
Evaluate the barriers preventing students from returning to campus.
An online education overrule the concept of traditional education now students can
pursue their education by using online mode beyond the geographical limitations. Its assist the
student in managing their studies along with part time job (Dalcher, 2018). After pandemic
university restart offline classes which was refusing by the students and they are in favour of
continuation of online study. In this relation university recognise certain barriers which prevent
students from returning to campus which are mentioned below:
Physical barriers: It is the one of the important major cause which prevent student to
return to the campus. Maximum number of students are habitat far away from university
which consume most of time in travelling which affect their extra co- curriculum
activities. The online education open the gates of maximum number of opportunities for
those who are unable to pursue their education from such universities due to long
distance.

Financial barriers: it considered as one of the main cause of preferring online education
other then traditional mode education. In offline mode person required to present
personally and many of students are live far away due to which they spend maximum
amount of their part time income in meeting out there expenses. As the education of UK
is quite expensive which cannot be affordable for every one this may leads to financial
worries among students. As child care is expensive in UK due to which parents are not in
favour of offline education.
Emotional barriers: it is considered as one of the key reason of not returning to campus.
Most of students are engaged in part time jobs due to which it is impossible for them to
spend whole time in the university. Students who are going to pursue their higher studies,
feels pressurized and stress for their academic learning ( Darics and Koller, 2018). As
university restart offline classes which affect their part time job and feel uncomfortable
and pressurize towards their studies.
Listening barriers: as per this barrier of preventing students to returning to campus
students while pursuing their offline education face the problem of communication due to
hindrance cause in the classroom. In physical classroom several distraction took place
such as general chattering, ringing of cell phones, late arrival of students and so on which
breach the decorum of the classroom. This leads to listening barriers among students
which creates disinterest in the lectures and professors also enable to deliver lecture
effectively. In online mode students can avoid such hindrance by pressing mute button
and they can record the lectures also which they can replay again to understand the
lecture.
Lack of common experience: As students in university are from different region which
different culture. In offline classes students are interacting with different students who
belongs to different culture, region and age which them nervous due unable to understand
their information that they want to communicate. This become one of the reason of non-
returning to campus.
Outline the strategies your university has implemented to overcome these barriers.
As students are not in favour of offline line classes due to which university formulated
certain strategies in order to overcome from such barriers which are mentioned below:

Hybrid system: The university adopted hybrid system strategy to overcome above
mentioned barriers. As per this strategy university bifurcated students in groups which
are attending their class by using alternative mode. For example, some group attend their
lecture virtually while other students are attend their classes physically. This reduce the
anxiety among students while interacting with students who are from different culture
and age.
Proper maintenance of distance: As students having fear of infection due to classroom
interaction in this direction university make appropriate sitting plan by arranging their
seats with proper distance. This strategy helps the university to overcome from such
barriers.
Proper sanitization: To overcome the barriers which university face while restarting
offline classes they adopt the strategy of maintaining the place hygienic by proper
sanitizing the place. As the COVID 19 is communicable pandemic which can easily
transfer in another person's body. Students having fear in their mind as they are came
from distance places which increase the possibility of communicating of it (Sirkeci and
O'Leary, 2022). So, university regularly sensitise the premises of the university and
provide entry in university after examine them.
Medical facilities: To overcome from barriers university developed proper medical
facilities in their premises. This may helps in reducing the financial worries among the
students. As interaction among students increase the possibility of fallen sick which cause
unnecessary financial burden on the students. To reduce such barrier university provide
free of cost medical facilities to their students.
Use of appropriate mode of communication: As listening barrier reduce the interest of
students in attending the class. The university provide appropriate mode of
communication to students and professors so, they can address their students clearly and
audibly. To overcome the elements of distraction of class, cell phone ringing etc.
university introduce lecture record system in the classroom so in case of hampering of
class students can understand the lecture with the help of recorded lecture facilities.
Alternate class: The operation of university started alternatively by allowing the
employees and students to come in the university in alternative days. This strategy helps
in breaking the chain of disease which prevent the communication of pandemic. It helps

the students in managing their part time jobs and studies efficiently (Sutherland, L.,
2018).
CONCLUSION
From this report it can be concluded that effective communication plays an important role
exchange of information. It can help the sender to address the information to receiver which in
actual want to communicate. Through communication person can share their ideas, thoughts to
another which develop the mutual understanding between them which leads to attainment of
organisational goals. It concludes about the theories of organization communication which
mentioned about how an organisation make effective communication within the organisation.
Furthermore, it mentioned about the barriers of which prevent the student to return to the
campus. At-last it discussed about strategies which can be used by university to overcome from
barriers.
