INTRODUCTION
Communication is considered as one of the important part of business as through this
company is able to promote a product or services of an organisation. It is also helpful in building
of a strong relationship among the company through which goals and objective become very
easy to achieve(Kaul, 2014). When communication take place between two parties and are
related to business affair where information and attributes are exchanged are referred as business
communication. For this report, a new beach resort of Sri Lanka is taken. The following
examination will cover the need of inter departmental communication, barriers of
communication and ways to overcome it.
MAIN BODY
Developing inter- departmental cooperation
Business communication is defined as the process where ideas and opinion are exchanged
through both written as well as spoken words in order to promote product and services of the
company to potential consumers. The communication helps in increasing the volume of sales
and maximisation of the profit. Inter departmental is considered as one of the most important
section in communication. It is considered as one of the medium through which information can
be exchange between the departments that helps in encouraging the healthy culture of an
organisation. Organisational communication refers to the exchange of information and ideas both
inside and outside the organisation in order to maximise the profit. There are different kind of
communication which are classified on the basis of certain division in context of new beach
resort in Sri Lanka and are explained below:
On the basis of organisational structure:
Formal communication: It refers to the communication in which there is a need to
follow certain rules and regulations while transmitting the message. It occurs in the form
of official style where information is passed within the set lines of the authority (Pearson,
2017). Formal communication take place in various forms like corporate meetings,
conference etc. The use of foul language and incorrect pronunciation is avoided. The
flow of information in beach resort is formal which enables the standardised information
to flow.

Informal Communication: It refers to process where information does not flow through
set channels of an organisation. This type of information is most common among friends
and relatives. The use foul language is not restricted in informal communication as there
is no specific line of authority.
On the basis of direction
Downward and Upward Communication: The communication that flows down
through a hierarchical structure i.e., from superior to subordinates is known as downward
communication(Steele and Plenty, 2015). This communication is very effective in the
new beach resort as through this superior are able to give instruction to the subordinates
so that they can easily perform their duties. Where as on the other side the flow of
communication from lower level to upper level i.e., subordinates to superiors is known as
upward communication. In such type of communication, subordinates give valuable
advise to their employers which helps in taking the best decision in an organisation.
Horizontal Communication: It refers to the communication where information is
transmitted between the people of same level in an organisation. Such type of
communication is very useful in new beach resort of Sri Lanka as it decrease the
misunderstanding among the employees and enables good coordination which results in
increasing the productivity and profitability of the concern.
According to the way of Expression
Oral communication: Such type of communication is very common in new beach resort
as it is the process of expressing the information by word of mouth. In other world it can
be said that there is face to face interaction among the people. Some of the oral
communication includes class lectures, presentation etc(Mikkelson, York and Arritola,
2015).
Written Communication: It refers to the communication that make use of written
words. Some of the form of written communication includes reports, bulletins etc. It is
considered as one of the most effective means of communication as here manager of new
beach resort in Sri Lanka are easily able to express their idea among the subordinate
which result in timely completion of task that ultimately leads to profitability of the
concern.

There are some of the principles of communication that are helpful in creating a strong
relationship among the employees in the department. Below mentioned are some of th principles
of communication:
Principle of Clarity: This principle state that whatever message or idea need to be
communicated by the superior must be a very clear so that receiver are able to understand
properly(Niemann-Struweg, 2014). As clear message avoids misunderstanding among
each other and also creates a good working culture.
Principle of Feedback: In order to make the communication effective the principle of
feedback is very important. The feed back must be take from the receiver in order to
know whether the one is able to understand the message properly or not.
Principle of Consistency: This principle state that the message which are transmitted
must be consistent with the policies and objective of the organisation. They should no be
in conflict as this results in creating misunderstanding in the minds of the subordinates
which result in their wrong implementation.
Thus with the help of this principles a good communication can be developed which results in
increasing the productivity and profitability of a concern.
Barriers of effective communication
Th process of communication has some of the barrier in between which results in
creating the misunderstanding among the organisation. The barriers are the one that prevents
from receiving the message or information properly to receiver. It is very important for the
manager of new beach resort to find out such type of barrier and also to make some of the
measures in order to overcome. Some of the barriers of communication are as follows:
Language Barrier: In new beach resort there are lot many people employing of
different culture or region that uses different language for conveying the message. So
there arise a problem in transmitting the information as some times the receiver is not
able to understand properly what sender want to convey thus there creates a gap which
results in inefficiency in an organisation (Zerfass and Viertmann, 2017)
Psychological Barriers: There are some of the people that have various issues like stage
fear, speech disorder, depression etc. Due to such type of reason, a individual faces
difficulties in communicating the facts which results in inefficiency in new beach resort.

Physical barriers: The communication is always a two way and there are some of the
barrier like noise, faulty use of equipment etc that act as a barrier in the communication.
Emotional Barriers: The communication totally depends upon the emotional IQ as
through this only an individual is able to communicate properly. A perfect mixture of
emotions is very necessary in order to communicate effectively as emotions like anger,
frustration etc can hamper the decision making process.
Measures to overcome the barriers:
There are some of the barriers faced by the company but this could be easily removed
with some of the ways. As effective communication in new beach resort result in building a good
culture that increases the productivity and profitability of the concern.
Use of proper language or tone: The leaders and manager of new beach resort in Sri
Lanka should make use of simple language in the communication so as to reduce
misunderstanding in the office enterprise.
Proper selection of media: In order to communicate with the desired group of person or
individual the manager of new beach resort should make proper use of medium of
communication. Message can be conveyed according to situation i.e. oral or written.
Eliminating the differences in perception: While recruiting an individual for the job,
the manager of new beach resort must look after the capabilities of the individual. The
person concerned should have a proper command over the language. The manager is
responsible for conducting a induction program in order to make the candidate clear
about their roles and responsibilities(Lawson and et. al., 2016). By following such type of
practices in the regular course, one can easily motivate the employees that results toward
timely achievement of the goals.
Ensure proper feedback: Resort in order to over the barrier must conduct a feedback of
the the receiver in order to know whether the message transmitted is clear to the
receivers. As by doing so a effective relationship can b developed among the
subordinates and the employees.
Thus from the above mentioned ways barriers can be overcome that usually arise during
the communication. By overcoming this, new beach resort is able to gain a competitive
advantage.

CONCLUSION
From the above mentioned report it can be sum that business communication is
considered as one of the most powerful tool through which effective relations can be developed.
Though there are various kinds of barriers in communication which creates conflicts and
difficulties in performing the operations but these could easily be overcome through some of the
measures.
