TASK 2
LITERATURE REVIEW
Describe and analyse the purposes and principles behind different forms of organisational
communication
As per the point of view of Strycharz and et. al. (2019), business communication can be
defined as the practice of sending and receiving messages with the sole purpose of flowing
essential piece of information within the organisational premises. In other words, it can be
referred to as the process of flow of data from one person to another with a view to ensure that
important business information reaches the concerned individuals or group. In this regard, it is
essential that personnel as well as the entity abides by the principles of communication at all
times. The basic principle pertaining to this area is the principle of clarity which lays down that
the data intended to be transmitted to other individuals should be comprehensible and
perceivable by others. The general purpose of communication is to stipulate one's own opinions,
thoughts, mindset and ideologies in front of other individuals via written or oral manner. The
different forms of communication that are found to be prevailing within the boundaries of an
entity are regarded to be formal, informal and electronic. The different types of communication
allow business persons to illustrate their ideas in a simplified manner as per their skills,
competence and capabilities.
Apply principles of effective communication to enhance practice
To ensure that business communication takes place in an effective manner, there are a
number of principles that are necessary to be followed by individuals as well as the company. In
this regard, the first and the foremost is the Principle of Clarity which lays down the necessity
for information to be written or spoken in a manner that it is clear, specific and easily perceivable
by other people. Yet another key principle which should be applied with a view to enhance
individual as well as organisational practice is Principle of Brevity. This lays down the necessity
to to devise concise, short and brief messages so that the chances of misunderstanding or
misinterpreting the message can be significantly reduced (Banaeianjahromi and Smolander,
2019). Another key principle of effective communication is acknowledged to be the Principle of
Accuracy. As per this, the information transmitted within the message should be accurate as per
the best knowledge of sender. For this purpose, it is significant that appropriateness of facts and

figures used within the message is ensured. Lastly, Principle of Timeliness stipulates that the
message needs to be transmitted to the receiver within the predefined course of time (Bui and et.
al., 2019).
ANALYSIS AND DISCUSSION
Mr. Fishy is a fish and chips restaurant situated within the Borough market near London
Bridge station. The organisation constitutes a staff of 20 individuals who are either employed on
a full time or a part time basis. The workforce consists of British as well as non-British staff
among which massive tension has risen owing to BREXIT. In this regard, the probable obstacles
to effective communication that may be encountered within the premises of this company are
regarded to be perceptual and linguistic barriers. Further, the strategies through which these can
be overcome are acknowledged as the usage of uniform language and conduction of cultural
awareness training.

cooperation among the staff members as well as between staff and management. Mr. Fishy is a
restaurant consisting of multicultural and multinational members which tends to inflate the
chances of occurrence of ineffective communication (Zieliński and et. al., 2019). Thus, it
becomes essential to gain knowledge about the different forms of communication that take place
within the lines of business along with the purpose and principle lying within them. In this
regard, a brief discussion upon the various types of business communication prevalent in Mr.

Informal communication: This is a form of business communication whereby data
flows through the organisation in an informal manner. With respect to Mr. Fishy, it can be said
that this is a type of communication which is used by the manager to spread news regarding any
work area among the employees in a rapid manner. The purpose of this is to facilitate the
development of social connections among the employees as well as to spread a piece of
information within quick time (Schneider and et. al., 2019). The principles that are followed by
the respective entity during this communication is Principle of Timeliness and Principle of
Brevity.
Electronic form of communication: Hereby, flow of information takes place by way of
mails, live chatting, web conferences, video conferencing etc. This indicates extensive utilisation
of technology to execute communication. The purpose of executing this is to maintain healthy
relations with stakeholders such as potential buyers, investors, suppliers etc. The principles
complied with in electronic communication is Principle of Accuracy and Principle of Clarity.
Apply principles of effective communication to enhance practice
Effective communication is the main motive of business association which helps them in
executing their business operations in appropriate manner. With reference to the present context,
it is seen manager of Mr. Fishy implements all 5 main principles of effective communication so
that they can deliver best services to customers and also operate their operational activity in best
effective manner. The main five principles of effective communication are described as below:
The principle of clarity: Manager of Mr. Fishy communicates every message to staff
members in the clear manner by spelling out every word in clear manner. Along with this, the
manager also speaks in an appropriate pitch so that others can easily hear what they actually
wants to speak. Also, common language is used by manager in order to avoid issues associated
with miscommunication.
The principle of brevity: Here, manager prefers to use concise messages at the time of
assigning duties to restaurant staff (Barnes and Bloch, 2019). This helps them in rectifying
chances of misconception or confusion as all staff members understands basic message that is
expected by manager to deliver. Also, usage of this communication is valuable in avoiding
chances of repetition.

that receiver could receive authentic data. Also, usage of “Principle of accuracy” allows manager
in taking right decision at the right time.
Principle of timeliness: Business manager of Mr. Fishy, conveys all required messages
to all staff within the provided time frame. This supports in completion of work within due
course of time (Dávila and Atkinson, 2019). Accomplishment of work at right time directly
results in the growth and development of restaurant.
Evaluate the communication practices of themselves and others
There are various effective communication practices that need to be adopted by the
employees of Mr. Fishy to ensure enhanced practice. In this regard, active listening is one of the
key communication practices that should be adopted by personnel at the time of communication
so as to demonstrate respect for the speaker at the time of verbal or oral interaction. I am an
active listener as I believe that it is only when an individual listens properly that one can get the
opportunity to speak by putting forward a better idea. Yet another key communication practice
that should be used by employees is the use of non-verbal cues as it helps the speaker in
communicating their mindset with more clarity and precision. In this relation, I have observed
that I am ineffective in applying body language at the time of speaking in meetings which is why
my colleagues have an edge over me at the time of presentations.
CONCLUSION
From the above described report, it is concluded that business communication refers to an
important practice that is required by business manager to have. This helps them in easily
executing organisational work. It has also been identified that Principles of clarity and Accuracy
are termed as most essential principle which improves business practice of every organisation.
Along with this, it is also important for business managers to ensures formal communication
should be used by everyone in the company so that chances of conflicts could be minimised.
