Abstract
To run a business in effective manner it is essential for an organisation to establish good
business communication in organisation. Understanding the value of effective business
communication there are several authors who provide effective theories related to the
organisational communication. This report contains some general organisational communication
theories which helps an individual to establish effective organisational communication. Further
this report also contain various communication barriers faced by an organisation which operates
in education sector and various strategies used by the organisation in order to overcome these
barriers.

INTRODUCTION
Communication is very essential for any business in order to run it in a successful manner
(Fauzi, Al-Khowarizmi and Muhathir, 2020). The communication needs to effective as it is
provided to a large number of people. Business communication refers to the process an
organisation use in order to establish an effective communication between various stakeholders
of the organisation. Business united is a private college which is established in London and
offers educational services to the students of the college. This report contain various theories
which are used by organisation given by various authors to have a n effective communication in
the organisation. This report also contains various barriers of communication which are faced by
business United in order to provide online classes to their students. There are various barriers
which are faced by business united in effective communication between teachers and students. It
also contains various effective strategies which are used by company in order to overcome from
these barriers.
MAIN BODY
Some general theories of organisational communication.
Theories of organisational communication are the theories which are provided by doing a deep
study on organisational communication by various practitioners of management. There are
various theories which are provided for organisational communication and some of them are
given below:
Weber’s Classic Organizational Theory of Fixed Structures
This theory is given by Max Weber which gives his first attempt to describe an
organisational structure which helps to understand the meaning of communication with the help
of a structure and hierarchy followed in an organisation (Payne and Leary, 2020). It help to give
meaning to follow a disciplined structure in an organisation having a hierarchy communication.
According to this theory of communication, the organisation have their clear roles and
responsibilities assigned to various individuals also have a hierarchy and structured
communication in an organisation. In respect of Business united the college needs to have a
proper a structure and hierarchy which helps to define clear roles and responsibilities of various
people in the organisation and establish an effective communication with in the organisation.
Tompkins and Cheney’s Organizational Control Theory

This theory is created by extending the theory which is given by Max Weber. According to this
theory, the organisation has four kinds of control which helps an organisation to ascertain the
power which has been exercised by an organisation. This control and communication exercised
in the organisation defines the level of communication and effectiveness in that with in the
organisation.
Deetz’s Managerialism Theory
According to this theory, Deetz mention that an organisation should have a democratic
structure instead of having a control over employees (Ter Hoeven and Van Zoonen, 2020). This
democratic structure will help the employees to effectively communicate with in the
organisation. An organisation should have centralised power in the organisation which is good in
maintain communication with in the organisation. In case of Business united also if the power is
not centralised in the hands of management the students will get hesitate to complain about
various issues they are facing in their course of business it is considered as a barrier in the
effective communication within the organisation.
Analysis of barriers of communication at Business United.
Communication became very difficult in situation of COVID 19 and in order to provide
educational services to the students of business united it became essential to communicate with
them. The organisation decide to provide online classes to their students and found out several
barriers which are faced by the organisation. The barriers which are identified by the
organisation during online classes are given below:
Technical Barriers The technical barriers refers to the problems which are faced in
communication process and are related to the technology. This is the major problem which is
faced by Business united in order to establish continuous services and lectures in online classes.
The internet connectivity issues in various locations and not proper working of WI-FI is one of
the major technical issue which is faced by students. The teachers having old laptops also face
problem in loading of page which also waste time of students which is a problem faced in online
class. Apart from this there are so many technical issues which are faced by Business united in
order to provide their online services.
Physical Barriers – In order to attend online class, students needs to sit in front of their
computers, laptops and mobile phones for a long period of time. It is very harmful for the
physical health of students to sit in front of these electronic gadgets for such a long period of

time. They became uncomfortable in such a long sitting which can create back problems to them.
Apart from this it is very harmful for the eyes and head of the students (Wallace, 2020). Some
students face headache problem with this regular online class and some of them has eyesight
issues in them.
Cultural Barriers – There are so many people who are not able to go to their places because of
lock down faced by the world. There are so many students who just came to England and stuck
in the lock down. They are not familiar with the language of England which creates a culture
difference in people. In case of Online classes they are not able to interact with other students
and teachers which creates a lack of self confidence in them. It also create a language barrier
between them and the teachers due to which they are not able to understand the lectures in a
proper manner which became a barrier of communication between them.
Noise barriers – In many cases when students have queries in the class they interrupt in between
lectures which they did in physical class. This has create a nuisance in the class and teachers are
not able to communicate with other students in effective manner. The sound or noise which is
created in between the class is also became a barrier in the class which is faced by students and
teachers in order to establish an effective communication between them. Apart from this,
sometimes there is a noise which has been created in online classes such as noise of humming in
the class also create noise in the class. In order to have a proper coordination it is very essential
to remove these noise from the online class.
Emotional Barriers – In the lectures which are given in the online class have either no or very
little interaction between teachers and they need to listen to the teacher for a long period of time
(Yue, Men and Ferguson, 2020). A class with no entertainment and friends create boredom in
students and are not willing to attend the class. As they have no meeting with their friends the
students feel more isolated in their places which is a barrier to the communication in the online
class. It is because the boredom and isolated they feel at their places which distract them from
the communication.
Company's strategies to overcome these barriers
In order to provide solutions to the above given barriers there is a strong needs to formulate
strategies which can be effectively used. The Business United also formulate various strategies
which helps them to provide effective communication between students and teachers which are
given below:

All the sessions which are provided online should be recorded for future references as
well as help to those students who are not able to attend the session due to any of the
barrier.
The technical issues which are faced by the organisation can be resolved by providing
suggestions to the students to use the network which has good connectivity. Business
united should also provide laptops to their teachers to effectively communicate with their
students (Yue, Men and Ferguson, 2020).
If any query arose between the studies students can mark that to the chat box so that
whole class not get disturbed. It will help to remove barrier of noise from the class.
The teacher should engage the class in entertainment activities and interact them in
regular manner so that they can analyse the performance of each student and they donot
get bored from the lecture.
The teacher should also have meditation and yoga classes to improve the physical health
of the students.
CONCLUSION
From all the given information above which helps to conclude that the communication is very
essential in an organisation in order to fulfil its operations. In case of Business United which is
private college, they have to provide online classes to their students due to COVID19 situation.
There are several barriers of communication which are observed by the college in order to
effectively provide education to them. The organisation formulated various strategies to
overcome these barriers in online classes.
