1BUSINESS COMMUNICATION
The term business communication is referred to the process of exchanging informations within
the organisations for fostering performances and in turn, attaining the organisational vision
(Bovée, Thill, & Raina, 2016). Business communication is particularly necessary as it
communicates the vision of the organisation or the strategic goals and the objectives of the
company to the employees and vice versa so that both the parties have a detailed knowledge
about the expectations from each other. The article will discuss the key characteristics of the
internal downward business communication.
The internal downward process of communication refers to the type of business
communication that comes from a superior to one or more subordinates. This communication,
generally have a linear line of command where in a message comes rom the upper strata of the
organisation and is circulated among the managerial or supervisorial posts which in turn comes
to the knowledge of the subordinates. The key characteristics of this type of communication are:
1. clarity- this means that the message sent will be clear and precise. Since the message is going
from the higher authority and is percolating various levels, it has to be clear from the very
beginning (Gibson, 2012)..
2. Simplicity- since the message is going from the upward section to the downward section, via
various levels; it must be simple and devoid of any other implications in order to avoid any kind
of misunderstanding.
3. Discipline: Downward communication is generally a process that occurs with the conformity
with the official regulations and laws. Thus, such communications are generally a guidelines for
the receivers (Ertureten, Cemalcilar & Aycan, 2013).
