Challenges and barriers
Mr Fishy is established in the Brought market near London Bridge and providing their food
services for last 10 years. Twenty staff members are employed in this restaurant working on part
tome and fill time basis. They belong to different cultures and background. Although there are no
differences have been occurred in the services and but communication barriers become problems
sometimes and the because of tensions surrounding the probability of Brexit, relationship
between the British and non-British workers have been identified in the restaurant. Some of the
challenges and obstacles of effective communication includes irregularity of communication,
relying to the technology to deliver the messages, supposing the audience recognizes the jargon,
not listening to the workers, not making the communication a headship function, and assuming
that everyone is a brilliant communicator. Some of the barriers include perception barrier
(difference in opinion), emotional obstacles (fear and doubt), language barriers, cultural barriers,
and physical barriers (closed door and cabins for employees). These challenges and barriers
hinder the effective communication in Mr Fishy and affect the healthy relationships (Jenifer and
Raman, 2015).

Strategies to overcome barriers
To avoid the communication issues and Brexit related tensions among Mr Fishy’s employees we
must work collaboratively. There are some strategies that can be used in Mr Fishy such as open
interaction with employees, avoid using slangs in the workplace, remain aware about different
cultures, keeping the door for employees, and using a communication app (Jenifer and Raman,

2015). Open interaction between the employees and management authorities can encourage
employee to share their ideas without any hesitation. Slangs can cause confusion and a source of
frustration, therefore it must be avoided. Being aware of cultural differences can help in
understanding one another in an organization. Keeping the doors open can help employees to
interact easily with the managers and other higher authority members. It will help them to
develop a sense of belongingness and it will develop a healthy environment where employees
can discuss their problems and new ideas with any barrier. As language is the most common
barrier, it must be removed by using language apps that allows the user to interpret the language
(Kent et al., 2016).

Influence of cultural awareness
Individuals from dissimilar cultures frequently have unlike styles of spoken and non-verbal
communication. For instance, in certain cultures greetings are presented with the bow rather than
a handshake. In other different cultures making direct eye contact is considered impolite, while
in some other cultures it is an indication of honesty and faith. Verbal communication styles are
also different in many cultures. In some places saying something in the direct way to a superior
considered as rude or disrespectful. When working with colleagues, employees must be aware of
these sign as it misinterpretation of these sign can affect other individuals both negatively and
positively. There are different ways by which culture can influence negotiation in an
organization, for example in different cultures, negotiation is seen as the relationship and in
others like Spanish culture it is seen as contract. There are different attitudes of negotiation: one
way is reaching to a win-win situation and other way is reaching to the win lose situation. Some
other factor of cultural differences that can influence negotiation are using informal and formal
