Discussion
Communication Trends within the current and future workplace
The five major trends that have created an impact on the workplace at present and in
the future include the globalisation, mobility, millennial and changing demographics, new
behaviours and technological implications too. The globalisation has influenced the people
to communicate within the workplace considering their speaking language and these are also
based on the culture and backgrounds from which people belong. This allows for recruiting
and selecting people from all over the world, regardless of their race, religion, colour,

ethnicity or culture. The mobility has created convenience for people within the workplace to
interact with each other easily with the help of emails, messages and also through video
conferencing (Pearson, 2017). The millennial are based on the way employees’ behaviours
are influenced and their mind sets are encouraged to promote new behaviours and are
comfortable to work with each other as a unit within the workplace, thereby foster
collaborative teamwork and better communication at work. The new behaviours have
enabled change and resulted in engaging social media platforms to facilitate open
conversations and drive the business relationship between the business and its customers.
Most importantly, the technology has also facilitated the entire communication process and
made it easier for the businesses to promote effective communication with the employees as
well as the customers much more comprehensively (Keyton et al., 2013).
Acronym
The acronym is CSPNF that has been developed for the consideration of various skills
related to the management of communication trends within the workplace, at present and also
how it can assist me to become successful in the future as well. It stands for Collaboration,
Seamless technology integration, Presentation, Negotiation and Feedback.
Collaboration- Collaboration and teamwork is very important for ensuring successful
business communication. Being able to collaborate holds a wide range of benefits for an
employer. It helps in ensuring better marketing, increased employee satisfaction along with
high quality service and product, which further helps in customer satisfaction (Cheruvelil et
al., 2014). It is to note that business communication skills and trends are often facilitated with
the management of collaboration between the employees and while working as a team. As a
part of any organisation, I would like to make sure that I frequently communicate with the
other employees and work as a unit in a collaborative manner to foster the communication

and interpersonal skills. Any sort of discrimination based on race, religion, colour, ethnicity
or culture must be prevented as well.
Seamless technology integration- The potential of moving data and conversations
from one platform to other platform is very high these days. It is therefore, expected that all
the devices should contain all the conversations. This technological trend related to business
communication is also seen in the “bring-your-own-device” initiatives, which encourage the
employees in making their personal devices their life and work companions and reduce the
friction in between them (Buterin, 2014). In this process, communication of the company is
greatly enhanced. The technological integrations have assisted me to communicate with
others within the workplace and also provided better mobility for everyone to communicate
with each other quite easily (Wang, Pauleen, D. J., & Zhang, 2016).
Presentation- People respond better the images and other visual information as
compared to plain texts. There has been large range of online tools that enable the businesses
in creating some engaging visual imagery for communicating their messages more effectively
(Van der Linden et al., 2014). Presentations are highly effective in explaining different
concepts, ideas, projects and processes to the employees and make communication and
understanding more effective. As a leader of an organisation, I would like to make
presentation of the skills and also clarify any tasks to the employees, which should not only
strengthen my interpersonal skills, but would also ensure empowerment of employees largely
too.
Negotiation- Negotiation is very important in modern business communication. It
takes in account the interests and needs of everyone involved so that no one is at a loss. It
also helps in avoiding conflicts and finding out alternatives that is suitable for all (Yang,
2014). Good negotiating process is very helpful in ensuring business success and building

better relationship while resulting in mutual benefits. In the process of business
communication, negotiation skills is very useful in resolving any prevalence of differences
that took place in between different people in business setting. It is also my responsibility to
manage negotiation during the recruitment and selection and discuss about the wages
structure along with various flexible working arrangements too for encouraging them to
perform to their potential.
Feedback- Feedbacks make business communication meaningful. It is basically the
end result of an idea and it makes communication continuous, which is very important in
business. Feedbacks complete the whole process of communication and sustains it. It is the
basis of measuring the effectiveness of a communication process. It is also necessary to
obtain the feedbacks of employees through monitoring of performances, based on which
necessary training programs could be arranged for them to enhance their skills, knowledge
and expertise.
Conclusion
Hence, from the above analysis it is to conclude that collaboration, seamless
technology integration, presentation, negotiation and feedback are key to successful business
communication in contemporary world. Communication is one of the key principles of
getting some great employee engagement and customer service. Analysing the control of
service actions, encouraging right type of actions that aid to exceptional service, analysing
the content of the service and media channels that are used are all very necessary to ensure
effective overall communication. All these are important communication trends and skills of
communication in workplace.
