Introduction
Effective business communication is a process in which two or more parties are involved in
order to send and receive any information. Communication is an important process to convey a
message or any information to other. One should take care that the message is correctly
conveyed and understood by the receiver. The report is based on reflection that includes the
different reasons and also states the importance of effective communication in business
enterprise. The reflective report consists of three sections. The first section will consist of the
identification of the communication concepts. The section two will include the elaboration of the
anyone concept of the communication. The section third will consist of the discussion on two
communication concepts which will be helpful in career advancement and personal development.
Effective business communication is used by the business enterprises in order to develop
knowledge, achieving the desired goals and targets, the building of relations with the employees
and customers.

Section 1- Identification and explanation of the importance of communication concepts
Week 1
Communication: It is a process of transferring any message or information by an individual to
another with the use of a symbol, behavior or sign. Communication is the process of exchanging
of the thoughts with one another. From ethical communication, I have learned that the behavior
of an individual is being analyzed by the truthfulness, personal integrity, respect for others,
moral and values he follows which results in effective communication. Communication is
important because it helps in informing, imagining, influencing, expressing feelings, and meeting
expectations of the society (Cao, 2016). The communication process consists of various models
such as linear model, Interactional model, and Transactional model. The study in this week
consists of various types of principles of communication. From it, I have learned that
communication should consist of clarity, completeness of the message; it should include an
objective and purpose of the communication.
Week 2
Non- verbal and listening skills: From this, I have learned the concept of listening skills and
communication through non- verbal. Non- verbal communication is the process, in which
communication is done through facial expressions, gestures of body language. In this process, an
individual does not use words to communicate its message. I have learned from nonverbal
communication that it helps in the building of the confidence among the employees. The non-
verbal communication helps in building professionalism among the employees, customers, and
managers of the organization. The listening skills are the concept in which an individual listens
to the message delivered to him. It aids in the proper understanding of the information or
message delivered to the person. The nonverbal communication skills and listening skills aid in
building consistency among the employees (Rajmohan, 2015). From this, I have learned that the
employees can increase a sense of trust through effective communication process. It helps in
increasing my learning and developing my personal growth. The second week provides learning
of listening skills and non-verbal communication skills which aid in delivering of the

Good and active written communication skills: Written communication is said to be good
when it is written precisely, to the point, in a professional manner, and provides a clear message
to the receiver of the communicated message. Written communication can be done through
emails, letters, etc. From the written communication skills, I have learned that written
communication skills help in developing creative and innovative ideas in the mind of the writers.
It aids in minimizing the confusion and avoidance of the misunderstandings. Written
communication is also considered as a statement of proof. From written communication skills, I
have learned to effectively improve my presentation skills, vocabulary. It helps in the building of
the confidence and capability of the individual to write, as many a time people find it difficult to
write a message because of the fear of grammatical errors (Weldy, 2017).
Week 4
Academic Writing: In week four, I have learned the concept of academic writing and it is
important for an individual to perform his jobs in any business organization. Academic writing
can be either writing of a thesis, an essay, or dissertation. From academic writing, I have learned
the skills of managing the time, keeping my point of view and involving myself in the
arguments, debated or speeches. Academic writing is used to know the consistency of the
employees and learning skills. Academic writing is a method of effective communication which
helps in presenting the information and displaying of the understanding on a specific subject.
This will help in developing the knowledge of an individual (Ismail, et. al., 2017).
Week 5
Academic Essays: The week fifth provides a deep knowledge of academic essays. It provides
self-reflective learning and improves the writing of literature review. This helped me in
understanding the business research work. From the literature review, I have understood the
various theories and models of the business as written and explained by different authors. It has
improved my decision-making skills as it aid in analyzing and determining the different business

areas such as providing training and development programs to the employees, providing
presentations by the individual to the clients, communicating any important information and
reporting to the subordinates, taking interviews, etc. Public speaking is an important process to
increase the sales of the business and to deliver the thoughts to the public about the products of
the company (Vali, 2018).
Week 7
Intercultural communication: The week 7 helped in understanding the need and importance of
the inter-cultural communication in the organization. Almost all the companies are expanding
their businesses overseas. For the successful implementation of the business in a foreign country,
the company should develop cultural communication skills which help in understanding the
culture of the foreign country. There is a difference in the values, beliefs, cultural minds of the
people of different countries and this can result in incongruity among the employees. From this
week, I have learned that business organizations through inter-cultural communication skills can
increase their earnings. This aid in developing innovative and creative ideas to the individuals as
they would require thinking according to the minds of foreign people (Servaes, 2016).
Week 8
Organizational Structure: Communication process is an important process for the development
of the organizational structure. The organizational structure helps in determining the process of
communication which the employees should follow in the business. There are two types of

decisions in the business so as to improve the productivity of the company. The writing skills of
self-reflective are used to express the thoughts on a particular situation and personal views of the
individuals. The literature review and the self-reflective skills aids in developing skills and
knowledge and making better decisions in the business.
Week 6
Public Speaking: From week six I would learn about public speaking, and presenting myself
toward the public with self-confidence. It is important for an individual to communicate with the
public for effective operations of the business. Public speaking skills are important in various

Meetings: Every business requires conducting of the meetings for its effective development and
growth. General Meetings and Board Meetings are two compulsory meetings which the company
shall conduct for its continuous growth. In order to conduct the meeting, presentation and
communication skills are required. Meetings are generally formal and require a variety of rules
to be followed by the individuals attending the meeting. The meetings are conducted to increase
the productivity of the employees, improve the growth of the company, determining the
strategies to increase the sales and profitability of the company. The people attending the
meetings should possess communication skills so as to put their viewpoints (Chan, et. al., 2017).
Week 10
Intrapersonal and interpersonal relationships: For improving personal growth,
communication skills play a vital role in the lives of individuals. Intrapersonal communication is
the method of communication in which an individual communicated with oneself and aim to
develop its personality and identity. Interpersonal communication is a communication which is
done between two or more people. Through interpersonal communication, individuals can
develop their communication skills and way of behaving with others. Both types of
communication are required as it helps an employee to build relations with others and improving
