Introduction
In a business environment, effective communication plays a crucial role in ensuring the good
relationships among the staff members of the organization as well as with the clients and other
organizations. Learning the tactics of communicating with others whether listening or speaking
is the key aspect of overall performance and growth in business.
Hence, in this report, I will discuss how effective communication helps an organization to build
up its growth and business empire. Apart from listening and speaking, communication skills also
get reflected through academic writing reports and thesis in the business environment. Wrong
and unethical words used in reports reflect a very bad impression on clients as well as other
members. So, a discussion about how to write these reports along with proper knowledge and
grammatical skills will be done in this essay. Although communication can be interpersonal
between the different staff members of the organization or between the clients and other bodies.
So, in this essay, I will also discuss these interpersonal and intrapersonal communication tactics
for effectiveness and social connectivity with the global market. Hence, all the models and
principles of communication in the business environment will be discussed in this essay.
Section One
Week 1
In this context, I have learned about the importance of ethical communication in the business
environment. This ethical communication comprises of positive ethics which should be reflected
while two employees communicate with each other. Their words should reflect honesty, respect
towards others and a logical talk. This type of communication increases the interests of the
listening party and better understandable environment is being created through this. Also,
effective communication is too necessary to persist some special purpose and transfer all the
deliverables to the audience of the organization. There can be several principles of
communication which need to be kept in mind while having a conversation with others. These
principles speak up about the very blur line between intentional and unintentional
communication, unrepeatable and irreversible communication etc. Through communication, we

have also learned about the effective listening skill. Listening also holds as much as important as
speaking skills. This helps us for proper receiving and evaluating the talk and then expressing
our ideas and thoughts accordingly.

Business writing is another type of communication in the business environment. In this context, I
have learned about various ethics of business writing. In an organization, this writing is a
necessary tool for providing information about any decision-making process, to coordinate
internal and external activities and for maintaining the identity of the organization in the global
market. There can be various communication genres used in business like official letters,
resumes, memos, any announcement etc. For maintaining the business standards, I have learned
about the formats of writing resumes cover letters, CV’s, emails, reports etc. Different genres
have different format of writing the content and designation of sender and receiver. Hence for
maintaining the decorum of business, properly formatted business writing must be ensured in the
environment. Taking an example of the memorandum (memo), specified heading containing
sender and receiver designation with proper date and subject, opening statement, the main
content and then closing statement of the purpose inserted (Contributor, 2017). Hence, in this
way, I have learned all the other formats of different genres.

Week 4
In the previous week, I have learned about different formats for writing different documents in
the organization. But one of the key points to write those documents is to analyze who are the
audience to receive the information. The audience has to be specified for the documents like the
real ones who read and hear the information, the particular member to whom the writer wants to
target etc. Analyzing the key audience enhance the writing procedure of these documents. These
documents in the business environment can be prioritized according to their purposes whether
specific or general one. However, grammatical mistakes in those reports are not feasible at the
professional level. So, I have also learned about different Grammarly terms like active voice and
passive voice which have a great sign in writing these documents. Using these grammar skills for
writing the reports and memos at business environment will enhance the leadership skills and
confidence due to effective communication and shows up sincerity of the employee (Reddy,
2018).
Week 5
As the main aspects for the growth of business in the competitive environment are knowledge
and research. So, literature reviews also hold a place of importance in the business environment.
These reviews generally demonstrate the knowledge and information known about some topic
and situating the environment and topic according to the interest. So, in this context, I have
learned about writing the literature review in the business environment. A good literature review
in the business writing demonstrates the knowledge of the employee who has written that review
and also justifies the need and purpose of the idea and review for which that much research has
been done (Kim, 2018). Apart from literature review, reflective writing also holds much
importance. The reflective writing in a business environment relates the personal, social and
cultural behavior of the employee with his professionalism experiences (Walvaren, 2017).

As in business and professional life, oral presentations also hold importance to influence the

educational background. As the culture has a large impact on business. So intercultural
communication is way necessary for the business environment to break down these cultural
barriers and enhance the self-awareness and communication skills among different members of
different cultures. In this context, I have also learned about face negotiation theory which ensures
the saving of the face in case of any conflict situation accordingly to the different cultural people
involved in the business environment (Sinden, 2014). There can be two situations for face
negotiation theory that is low power distance situation where everyone wants to get involved and
the second is high power distance where indirect and format talk is preferred with higher
authorities of the company. In case, intercultural communication is very important to develop
cultural awareness and understanding the different styles of communication.

and innovation. So internal communication between the leaders, team members and managers of

purpose of the presentation must be clear to the speaker so that proper presentation be delivered

groups to share some common purpose to achieve common goals. For communication among the
team members or group members, specific meetings are organized in which the most important
decisions about the business have to be taken. These meetings tend to be some problem-solving
meeting or some information sharing platform among various members. For ensuring a
successful meeting to be conducted in business, proper verbal and non-verbal communication
need to be addressed by each and every team member while giving their ideas. Hence through
these meetings, the project goals can be easily met up having an effective conversation with all
the members (Jamison, 2015).
Week 10
In an organizational environment, interpersonal communication where the employees can
communicate with another employee or a group of employee holds special importance. These
communication tactics have been used to extend the ability to solve the problem with help of
others. Mainly the group related work of business is done using this communication. An
employee who has a good group communication skill can be referred to the flexible and
adaptable communicator in the business and many opportunities have been given to him. I have
also learned about verbal aggressive communication which involves the defense of one employee
with respect to others and defines the character and background of the employee. I have also
learned about the passive and assertive behavior of the employees in a business environment and
another phase into the scenario, external communication is also very important which is between
the clients or customers and the business authorities. The advertisement is the best example of
external communication. Apart from the communication system, I have also learned about the

As there are four styles of communication in which passive and assertive are two of the styles. In
passive communication, the individuals develop a pattern from which they avoid their feelings
and opinions, their rights and identify their needs according to the business environment.
Assertive is just the opposite one to passive communication through which the employee clearly
shows their feelings and opinions towards the organization. The employee value themselves,
their time and emotions and become very respectful towards the organization and other
members. The employee feels like connected to all others which often grow the business
environment and ethics all over and spread positivity all around (aifc, 2018).
Section Three
For future career aspiration, I have decided to choose ethical communication and interpersonal
communication. Ethical communication leads to building communities within and across
different cultural environment, channels, and media. Personal ethics of getting and taking
everyone together for proper decision-making processes and responsible thinking will lead to the
successful growth of the business. Through ethical communication, the customers and clients
built up trust in the organization which will further lead to productive growth of the organization
(Mayhew, 2018).
Interpersonal communication comprises of face to face communication among different staff
members and the high authorities of the organization. Interpersonal skills comprise of active
listening and body language which is very much important to better understand the thoughts and
then take action accordingly should be introduced in future career aspiration for the growth of
business in the market (Terrell, 2018).
