INTRODUCTION
Business communication is the activity or practice of sharing the information about the
company between an individuals in an effective manner (Business communication, 2016). Here,
in order to share the information about the company, managers take help from varied means such
as telephone, letter and video email etc. The present report has been divided into four different
type of sections and here each section will provide description regarding different aspects related
with business communication.
TASK 1
APPLICATION LETTER FOR INTERNSHIP

I have seen your advertisement in online job searching website and thus I would like to
apply for summer internship in your company at HR sector. I have heard about the training
module for intern about your enterprise from my college placement center and I am very
impressed with the work which is being carried out by your organization. Thus, I want to work
as intern in the company.
Presently, I am pursing my MBA degree in Human resource specialization from the
university of London and will complete my degree this spring. In addition to this, I have done
my graduation in BBM (Bachelor of business administration) from the university of London in
first division.
Further, with this during my graduation program I had done my summer internship in HR
area at local hotel of London named as Gainsborough hotel. In this hotel, I have learned the roles
and responsibilities of HR assistant. Here, my basic role is to give assistance to the HR manager
of hotel. Here, I used to make the report of issues which is being communicated by hotel guest to
the workers. In addition to this, I also prepare the report of the performance which is being
carried out by the hotel staff. Here, on the basis of given reports only different type of action will
be taken by the HR manager of cited hotel. Thus, I have gained immense work experience

related to HR assistant post. However, I want to increase my this knowledge further and it is the
reason why I have applied for the internship program in your firm.
I have good knowledge of different HR theories and concepts which I can use while
attending internship programs in your firm. In addition to this, I am hard worker and have the
capability to learn the new thing within a specified time period. Here, I will assure you that I will
put my maximum efforts with regard to any work which you will assign to me. Besides this, I
will also make sure that I will not reveal any personal or confidential information about the
company to any other person. In addition to this, I will also comply with all the rules and
regulations which is being followed by your company.
Besides this, I am able to work in a team in an effective manner. I really appreciate the

Background of the organization
‘FTSE100 organization is full formed as Financial Times Stock Exchange 100 Index. It is
the index which provides description regarding the companies which possess the highest market
capitalization and has their stock listed on the London Stock Exchange. Among listed
companies, Royal Mail is taken into consideration for the given task.
Royal Mail is the postal service company of United Kingdom which was established in
the year 1516. It is the public limited company which has its headquarter established in Victoria
Embankment, London. The firm has the team of 150000 employees till the year 2013 and this
has increased further. Royal Mail not only provide postal delivery services but it also works
under different type of areas such as EMS, parcel services, third party logistic and freight etc.
The main mission of the company is to enhance the customer satisfaction by giving them the
product within a specified time frame. Besides this, the firm is also committed towards
protecting the natural environment of country where it is operating its operation. In this context,
it is analyzed that Royal Mail is the first postal service in UK which has achieved the carbon
trust standard (Environment, 2015). Here, the firm uses diesel vehicles with an aim to transfer
their post or mail from one place to another. In addition to this, the firm also take significant
action with respect to reduce the different type of wastage which is being occur within the
company.
Royal Mail also fulfills its responsibilities towards the employees who works within
company. Here, with an aim to enhance the skills of workers, the organization organizes
different type of training and development programs for its employees. Thus, through this way
only the cited firm delivers the high quality of services to its respective customer and gain the
benefits in the form of increased profits and sales in an effective way (Guffey and Loewy, 2012).
The business strategy of company also rely upon the given approach such as meeting the
demands of buyers by improving the efficiency of company. The firm make constant efforts with
regard to perform significant changes in its existing services with an aim to fulfill or meet the
changing needs and demands of the buyers in an effectual manner.
Strength and weakness of Royal Mail
In the given section, strength and weakness of the company is analyzed. Thus, with an
aim to assess the same assistance has been taken from the tool such as SWOT analysis. It is the

approach which gives the description about the strength, weakness, opportunity and threat of the
company. However, in the given table strength and weakness of enterprise is dictated.

the firm has delivered the high quality of services to its client and it is continuing upon the given
approach. In addition to this, the firm also possess the huge base of loyal customers who are
continually using the services of enterprise. In addition to this, in order to maintain the given
base of buyers Royal Mail is following all the postal rules and regulations. Besides this, there are
different type of services being provided by the corporation which can be consider as another
core strength of company (Bargiela-Chiappini and Nickerson, 2014). In this context, it is
assessed that Royal Mail offers universal services in which it delivers the specific size item
within United Kingdom for the fixed prices. Here, the prices of the delivery is not affected
through the distance. Furthermore, the firm also give special delivery services to its customers in
which it guarantees that it will deliver the mail to its client within the specified tenure. However,
if not delivered then firm give the money to its client. Here, through the given type of approach
only cited firm build up an effectual relationship with its customers in an effective manner. In
addition to this, the firm also possess the strength in its team of talented and skilled personnel
and with an aim to enhance their abilities Royal Mail organizes different type of training and
development programs for its workers (Meredith, 2012).
Besides this, one of the biggest weakness of company that it comply with the strict rules
and regulations. The firm follows all the approaches and policies which is being framed by
Ofcom. For the firms it is effective to comply with the given type of approaches but sometime it
leads to effect the efficiency of the company in a negative manner. For example, Ofcom has

some price control regulation. The given regulation restrict the firm with regard to set the prices
for their services as per their own efficiency. Thus, given regulation is impacting cited firm
ability to earn high profits. In addition to this, nowadays sending the mail or post via traditional
ways has become outdated. In this context, it is analyzed that nowadays people prefers to send
their mail or business letters through online means. The given thing is impacting the popularity
of traditional mean of sending letters and parcel from one place to another (McKenna, Callan and
Gallois, 2012).
Conclusion
It can be stated that Royal Mail is highly recognized postal service company in UK and
its strengths are playing very effective role in terms of giving hike to the firm. However, it is also
required by the firm that it must look into its weakness. This is because, if the given thing is not
considered by the firm at that time there is a huge possibility that firm can lose its competitive
position in market.
Recommendation
For the purpose to improve the biggest weakness which is of significant decline in the
postal mean of communication in business, it is recommended to the cited corporation that it
must carry out the extensive promotion of its services (Nickerson, 2015). This is because, by
complying with the given type of activity only Royal Mail can maintain its image in the mind of
its respective buyers. Thus, can perform improvement in its sales and profits.

Reflective statement
I am undergoing my post graduate degree in Human Resource from the Anglia Ruskin
University (ARU). In university I have completed my first semester. Its been a good semester as
I have learned so many things. There are many things that had gone well during the semester.
The teachers who teach us all the HR related subjects are very well and highly qualified.
Through them I have learned a lot many things related with the Human resource. In addition to
this, teachers who works within Anglia Ruskin University are very open and friendly. Here, I had
not felt any kind of hesitation in terms of asking different type of queries from the teachers. In
addition to this, I had not seen any kind of stress on my teacher face in the circumstance when I
used to ask the same type of queries from them repeatedly or continuously.

In addition to this, the university had also given us an opportunity for getting an industry
exposure during the first semester. I have learned so many things from the given trip. Here, I
have improved my understanding regarding that how different theories of HR can be applied in
the real practical circumstances. In addition to this, I have also learned that ways which is being
used by managers in order to fulfill the HR related roles and responsibilities in an effective
manner. The given experience will help me a lot in the future. In addition to this, the university
has also organized different type of seminars which is being given by the individuals who have
specialization in HR related field. I have learned many things from the given individuals
experience also. Furthermore, I have also resolved my queries related to the given field. Thus,
overall its been a very good semester for me.
However, there are some things happened with which I am not pleased with. During the
semester, my university has organized presentation competition at college level. I also want to
participate in the given competition but my teacher have not given me the opportunity as they
were saying that this competition is organized for our seniors. In addition to this, I am also not
happy with the strength of my class. This is because, there many students studied in my class and
because of it I will not being able to carry out my in terms of making the efforts with regard to
ask my queries to my teachers in an effective manner. Due to this, my several queries have felt
unresolved.
However, I have learned about my personal strength and weakness throughout the
semester. In this context, I have analyzed that my biggest strength is to communicate with the
other individuals effectively and efficiently. I have use my given skill with an aim to
communicate my issues and queries to my teacher. Here with the help of given skills only I have
developed an appropriate relationship with my teachers who had taught me during the semester.
In addition to this, I have also realized that I am quick learner and capable to grasp the thing in a
faster way. Here, I have analyzed that I have the ability to grasp and apply all the thing related to
my subject which is being taught by my teacher in class. In addition to this, I have also identified
that I have good interpersonal skill and it is with the help of given skill only I have made many
friends within a very shot time period. The given skill will help me in future also. This is
because, while working on the position of HR I have to interact with the employees of firm.
Here, through an effective interaction only I will be able to direct my efforts with regard to
develop an appropriate relationship with them.

Besides this, I have also analyzed some weak points also which needs to be improve.
Here, I have analyzed that I do not possess good leadership skill. Recently, my college has
organized a short educational trip in which I was given opportunity with regard to handle an
guide the team of 4 individuals. I felt that I had not fulfilled the given responsibility in an
effective manager due to lack of leadership skill. Besides leadership skill, I have also felt that I
do not possess good problem solving ability. However, with an aim to improve the given
weakness and capitalize my own strength different type of strategies has been used by me. Here,
I will direct my efforts with regard to read the different type of book and journals related with the
leadership. In addition to this, I will also actively take participation in the role playing type of
programs which is being organized by the university. Here, by complying with the given type of
activity only I will perform significant improvement in the specific skill in which I am hindering.
The Anglia Ruskin University organizes different type of activity for the students for
their overall development. The university makes significant efforts with regard to improve the
employability skill of their students. In this regard, it organizes different skill development
programs. I also expect the same thing from the university in which I will study. It is the reason
why I have taken admission in the given university for my PG degree in HR.
In addition to this, I will give recommendation about the given university to my friend
who wish to learn in London. It is because of its effective academic module.
CONCLUSION
It can be concluded that selecting an effective mean of communication has become an
essential need in the today's competitive environment. This is because, ineffective selection with
regard to the business communication mean will lead to hinder the efficiency of corporation. The
impact of same will be seen upon the sales and profits.
