The paper is focused in the elaboration of the theories and the concepts that I have
learned from the course. Along with this, the paper evaluates the importance of these theories
and learnings in the business communications. The paper will be based on the topics such as
the report writing, oral communication and the public speaking and along with that, the paper
also assesses online or the web communication to evaluate the significance of these concepts
in the modern business communications. The paper also provides the information regarding
the areas where I faced difficulty and along with that, the areas where I require significant
amount of improvement.
Week 7:
During the week 7, I was able to learn the technique of writing the reports. The
significance of the report writing is seen to be pretty high prominent in the modern business
context as it is an important form of the formal communication that majority of the
organization undertakes (Godlovitch et al. 2013). From the week learnings, I was able to
understand the importance of drafting the ideas that are important for us in the effective
formulation of the reports. The drafting of the ideas that are important for the formulation of
the reports helped me to present the important information in a more efficient manner. Other
than this, the week learnings were significant for me in gaining the information regarding the
essential and the optional parts of the reports. I gained significant amount of knowledge from
the week learnings regarding the important parts of the reports such as the introduction,
summary, recommendations and the conclusion.
Other than this, the week learnings were crucial for me in gaining the knowledge
regarding the references and the appendices as that that increases the authenticity and the
effectiveness of the reports. Majority of the reports that are used in the business
communications are seen to be forma in nature. Under such situation, I was bit vulnerable as I

had the tendency of writing them in first person. This was a major mistake which required
significant amount of development. Other than this, I have the expertise of writing the various
sections of the reports such as introduction, summary and the conclusion in an efficient
manner. However, I was not so good in relating the summary or the identified points with my
recommendations and that decreases the effectiveness of the recommendations that I used
provide. Hence this is an area of improvement for me as well.
Week 9:
From the week learnings, it is pretty prominent that the incorporation of the modern
technology is able to improve the business communications in a significant manner and that
is prominent with the inclusion of the digital mediums (Bargiela-Chiappini and Nickerson
2014). From the week learning, I was able to understand the fact that it is important for me to
proceed with the elaboration of the starting points, the reasons and the examples for
providing the public speeches. Other than this, the necessity of restating the main points was
an important lesson for me from the week learnings. In addition to this, the learning of the
week enabled to me have the idea regarding the visuals and I understood the importance of
the clarity, relevancy, quality, visibility and memorability in the visuals.
On the other hand, I had some significant difficulty in the management of the non-
verbal commutations. I lacked the capability of portraying an appropriate body language
during the communications. As the non- verbal communication depends on the capability of
the communicator in portraying an excellent body language in a significant manner, this
restricted me in being a good non- verbal communicator. One thing that I was able to conduct
in an efficient manner was the management of the noisy audiences. I was able to make sure
that I provide the speech in a manner that is interesting for the audiences as the connection
with the audiences is much necessary in providing an effective speech. With the week

learning coming to an end, I figured out the management of the emotions and the body
language while providing a public speech will be the main area of improvement for me.
Week 10:
During the week 10, the learning were significantly helpful for me as it enabled me to
have the idea of documenting the emails and letters. The importance of the emails and the
various forms of letters has increased in a significant manner over the years with the
application of the modern technology and that is pretty evident with the increased level of the
preferences of the managers in communicating through the formal mails and the letters ().
From the week lessons, I was able to gain the knowledge regarding the common mistakes that
the individuals conduct in preparing the e-mails such as the making address goofs, forgetting
to check the grammars and spellings, clicking the “Reply All” when it was required to be sent
to a particular individual. Other than this, I was able to understand the benefits of instant
messaging and texting such as the real time communication with the other employees,
immediate exchange of the information along with the incorporation of the speed in the
decision making of the organizations. Along with that, I gained the information regards the
various form of the risks that are associated with the messaging and texting such as evidence
in lawsuits, inappropriate usage such as bullying and sexting and the exchange of the virus,
malware nad spam messages.
Apart from this, I was able to understand the importance and the appropriateness of
the various forms of letters along with the advantages and disadvantages of the social media.
From the week lessons. I achieved the knowledge regarding the advantages of the social
media such as the enhanced connectivity, possibility of the marketing and promoting the
various different products and services along with the enhancement of the communication
and team work. Other than this, the learning also enabled me to gain the knowledge regarding

the detrimental impact of the derogatory comments and the cyber bullying. I was able to
apply the knowledge of the letter writings and the emails which increased my efficiency in
exchanging the information. However, I had the tendency of doing several mistakes in
preparing the emails and one of them was long write ups in the mails. Other than this,
sending the “Reply All” was also an major fault that I repeatedly conducted. Hence in both
these aspects, I require considerable amount of improvement to enhance my skills of the
online business communications.
