INTRODUCTION
Business communication can be termed as sharing or conveying the business information
to the employees, management and to other organisation. The present report is based on a case
study of Sports Love which is a London based sports and leisure centre business. The company
is facing poor communication issues which also results in the poor satisfaction and business
performance. Present report will discuss different barriers and challenges of communication with
effective strategies to overcome that. Report will also include the influence of culture on
effective communication in company.
1. Identifying common barriers and challenges to communication.
It can be simply termed as sharing and transferring of information, ideas, knowledge,
behaviour from one person to another and from one place to another. Business communication is
the sharing and transferring of information within the business enterprises (Broadbent, 2013). It
is very important for the Sport Love to have effective communication in order to effectively
perform the business activity that will leads to achieve the business goals and target.
The common barriers to communication are:
Inadequate communication skills: it is the most common barriers that hinders an effective
communication in an organisation. Lacking of the effective communication skills includes poor
listening skills, poor understanding skills. It is important that the staffs of Sports Love should
have the necessary communication skills.
Incorrect timing or place: While sending the information, the sender has to be ensure that
information should be sent at the time so that receiver could get the information on time. In
Sports Love, the staffs are having problems because of long shifts and in appropriate meeting
times.
The major challenges for effective communication:
Lack of plan: in order to make effective communication in the business, the management should
be ensures of preparing an effective plan for the proper network of communication channel so
that all staffs of all shift could get in touch with the management (Watzlawick, Bavelas and
Jackson, 2011).

Meetings: It is one of the most effective tool of communication. The management of Sports
Love has to ensures to keep meeting at in more often so that the managers and staff could
interact with each others. The management should be ensures to keep timing in such way that
staff can attain and give proper feedback.
2. Strategies to overcome the barriers to communication.
In order to have an effective team work in organisation it is important to build strategies
in order to overcome the barriers of communication (Petty and Cacioppo, 2012). It is very
essential for Sports Love to make effective strategies in order to remove all the barriers on thee
way of effective communication.
More Diverse Workforce: Having a diverse staffs with different skills of
communication will be an effective strategy. A mic of staffs of different culture, religion
and from different countries will make it more effective to communicate with different
customers. Making an effective strategy to use varied social environment by including
diversity at work will help in improving the communication barriers at Sports Love.
Improving communication skills: It is very important for having effective
communication skills that includes both listening and speaking skills. It is essential for
the HR department to make plans in order to increase the efficiency of effective listening
and speaking that is being biggest barriers for communication at workplace.
Better communication network: Not being able to provide information to staff on time
is a major challenge or barriers that Sports Love has been facing. It is required to have an
effective communication channels which efficiently helps in flowing of information to
the top level management to bottom level staff (Habermas, 2015). It will help in timely
getting information about the shifts timing, new services etc.
Better understanding of employees: Sports Love has an serious issue that staffs and
manger are not interacting properly. It may be because of an inappropriate timing of
meetings. Management has to be ensure that they properly being in contact with their
staff, taking meetings more often which helps in taking their feedbacks and providing
them feedbacks regarding their performance. It will help in making better understanding
of the staffs.

3. Explaining the influence of culture on communication.
In business organisation, the manager or staff has to deal with the customer from
different language or culture. Responding effectively to them is the main survival strategy of any
business. In Sports Love, culture has been influencing the communication. The influence of
communication are:
In Sports Love, customers are having dissatisfaction issues regarding the staffs, it is also
effective the business of the organisation. The main issue of the scenario is poor
communication skills of the employees (Castells, 2013). One of the main reason is the
staffs are not much familiar with English as it may not be their first language.
Belonging to different countries, means belonging from different culture. Differences in
culture will affect the communication skills of the person in another country.
Culture has a rule of behaving differently in different situations, which influences their
communication with other person. Different culture will come up with different
challenges as some words and action has different meaning in different countries.
Culture will leads to influence the business communication of Sports Love by increasing
the relevance and understanding different languages. Business organisation is know
becoming more diverse by including more employees from different culture and
countries.
Difference in culture is also influencing the non-verbal communication. As gesture and
behaviours may have different meanings in different cultures (Scollon, Scollon and
Jones, 2011).
Building more diverse workplace will help the Sports Love to increase the customer
satisfaction. Management should plan effective training programmes for the staff whoo
are facing challenges in speaking English because of change in their culture.

By summing up the above report it can be analysed the importance of effective business
communication in organisational growth. The report has explained the case study of Sports Love
that were facing communication issues of staff. The report has includes the barriers and
challenges that company faces and different strategies of management to overcome them. It has
