Role in the
group
Is able to identify their
role, not what actions
they performed. E.g.
were they an information
giver/seeker, mediator,
standard-setter, idea
builder, encourager etc.,
and how did this role
manifest itself in their
behaviour in the team?
What role did I perform? How could I improve my contribution in
future?
I am a team member in the operations department in Malabar, the
South Indian Restaurant in Australia and encourage co-operation in
the team. My role is basically people oriented as I believe effective
team member support will lead to the ultimate success in achieving the
desired results.
I have good negotiation skills and I am flexible and diplomatic in my
approach. My perception skills are quite high which help me in
increasing team cohesion and support overall team performance. I
could improve my contribution to the team by prioritizing my duties of
increasing employee participation in the teamwork and lowering my
indecisive tendency by maintaining my commitments during
discussions in team meetings.
Manage time
independently
and as part of
a group
Demonstrates ability
to work independently of
the team while also
meeting team deadlines.
How well did I manage my time? Was I able to work independently?
I am a team member who likes her other team members to be
complete finishers and focus on through completion of projects that too
on time. Every small detail is looked around and scope of errors and
omissions is reduced considerably. I delegate tasks as per
requirement to the most fit person for the job so that on time delivery is
supported. I can work independently as well as I am very concerned
with deadlines and when urgency comes, I worries unnecessarily and
also at times find it hard to delegate tasks to ensure effective time
management.

Did I share new ideas with the team? Did I challenge and test ideas in
a positive way? Did I contribute to brainstorming and discussions? Did
I respect the contributions of my team mates?
My resource investigating role help me in being innovative and curious
in my hospitality operational tasks. I share every new idea with my
team and we all work collaboratively to explore available options and
develop contacts. I on behalf of my team negotiates for resources to
support accomplishment of objectives. Yes, I definitely challenge and
test ideas in a positive manner and support enthusiasm in my team.
My outgoing nature of extroversion help me in brainstorming ideas and
discussion with my team and my optimistic attitude encourage every
member to take active part in discussion. I respect each members’
contribution and each one’s idea is considered for final decision
making.

Did I respect differences amongst my team members? Did I respect
the differences in knowledge, skills and experience of my team
members?
Yes, me and my team members share almost the same label of
enthusiasm and encouragement in accomplishing team goals. I
respect differences of opinions among the team and diversified team
participation lead to the most innovate idea generation. The chances of
conflicts also increase as a result but my strong negotiation and
influencing nature help me in sorting out things rightly. All differences
in knowledge, skills and experiences are encouraged to the level it is
important in meeting team objectives. Professionalism is strictly
maintained in regard to achieving team objectives (MacGregor, 2011).
Level of skill and expertise varies as per individuals and I understand
my team well and thus is able to use the right person at the right job
role.

Identifies
areas for
improvement
and has
strategies to
improve
Is able to identify
areas of weakness in
relation to teamwork
Can describe how
they intend to improve in
this area in the future
Is able to articulate
what they learned about
themselves as a result
of working in this team
List three areas for improvement in future
1. Yes, I need to work on my strictness in meeting deadlines
where I taken extra pressure in meeting project deadlines. It is
not that I don’t trust my team members but when urgent
situations come, I become less flexible in delegating tasks and
as a result burden on me increases.
I need to work on my behavioural approach so that I feel less
burdened while meeting deadlines. I need to be calmer and
control my over-enthusiastic nature.
2. I also need to work on my indecisive nature where I take time
to come to a decision. I am not a quick decision maker and try
to analyse every small detail of the task which is not required
all the time. I need to work on this nature of mine and should
support team decision at times leaving detailed analysis.
According to Carnegie (2017) working in a team increases the
level of dependency on the team. For which I need to be
focused on independent working abilities as well so that my
team dependency reduces and decision making improves.
3. I support collaborative team working but I have no such
specified leadership skills to lead the team. I am a good team
member but need to develop my skills further so that I can lead
the team in future.
My negotiation skills have helped me in reducing conflicts in
the team and has helped in increasing effectiveness of both
team relationship and team performance holistically. I have
learnt to respect cultural differences in a more vivid manner
and support each members’ opinion in team decision making.
