Part A
The report required a detailed study related to the provided topics which are the database
management systems and decision support system. The discussion on these topics with respect to
the business is mentioned in this report. Major factors and the importance of appropriate decision
along with their impact is also discussed.
DBMS is referred to as the database management system that helps in storing, retrieving as well
as updating the data. This is a very useful tool which an organization adopts for storing the data
and information of the sales and finance of the business. This system is easy to access and work
on the various commands that the database administrator provide. For accessing the data from
the database these commands are used so that the desired information or data can be extracted
from the database in the minimum time. There are various advantages of using the database that
can provide great efficiency in the business and can minimize the time of extracting important
information from the database. These advantages include the reduction in the redundant data,
controlling the concurrency, Data Security, Integrity, and many other such advantages are
provided by the database (Laudon and Laudon, 2016). This works on the concept of ACID that
states that the data should be atomic, consistent, isolated and durable. For this project this
database management system tool is used as this provides all the above advantages that ensure
the capability and result and also saves the time to extract necessary details that are required by
using the commands. There is various type of databases that are used for many diverse areas of
business and these are, graph databases, ER model database, network database, document
database and many other and every other database is efficient and poses some great quality that
differs them from each other. Databases are accessed only by DBA that is the database
administrator and database works only on the command that these administrators provide.

Part B
DSS is referred as the decision support system that is used to take the major decisions regarding
the benefits and sales of the enterprise by the help of the data and information that is related to
the sales of the business and the management of the business. This decision support system is
used to visualize the data and perform analysis of the results that are related to the future result of
the organization. The use of actual facts and statistics are used so as to make the decision
accurate and appropriate for the businesses and organizations. This tool is effective for the
business and is used in this project as the business holds large amount of information regarding
the sales and profits of the organization that need to be analyzed so as to increase the sales as
well as to predict the future sale to gain benefits in the business and this can be done by using the
statistics and numbers that are accurate and is present in large amount in the business so this is
the most accurate tool to make appropriate decisions that can be made by using statistical
analysis and that is the reason decision support system is an appropriate tool here ( Elmasri, R
2017).
Mark up is defined as the additional cost in the selling price of the product that is added by the
retailer so that the retailer can earn the profit from the selling of the products and can earn some
profit from trading. There is a specific formula through which the markup percentage is
calculated and this formula is marked up % = (sale price – unit cost) * 100. Using this formula
the markup percentage is calculated and is directly proportional to the selling price of the
product.
A suitable mark up which is selected is the store type mark up from the entire available markup
the present. The mark up selected should be relevant as it affects the businesses by varying the
decision of the customer in purchasing the products. As the markup and selling price is
proportional to each other, then if the markup percentage increase then the selling price will also
increase and that will lead to reducing in the sale of the products (Hazır, Ö 2015).
Discounts are the reduction in the selling price so as to increase the sale of the company but the
surety of the profit is not guaranteed as the discount can lead to losses also if the quantity of the
sale is not increasing. This can result in heavy loss to the company. Discounts are the offers that
are released by the companies in order to attract more customers so that the quantity of the sale
can be increased. Next is the Freight which is the cost for the transportation of the products and
is also likewise as mark up, directly proportional to the selling price. The transportation cost if
raises then it will also affect the selling price. For the given case study the relevant freight needs
to be chosen that is the Rostenkowski-Wolowitz Transport type.
Now the most relevant country need to be select that should include the major factor of the taxes
related to the import and exportation of the products so the relevant country is the Melbourne
which is selected.

The above report concludes the detailed study regarding the database management system and its
definition and the use of the tool in this project. Another part contains the discussion regarding
the decision support system and its explanation with the appropriate selection of mark up, fright
and other components that are used in a business and can provide benefits.
