1.0 Self-reflection on personal learning and development,
and the transferable skills
1.1 Identification and reflection on my approach to personal
learning and development
Personal development provides a way for individuals to measure their skills
and knowledge taking in view the purpose and aims of life regarding the career
growth and set the goals so as to maximize the potential to achieve the desired
growth in academic as well as professional life (Thomas, 2022). Every individual is
required to assess self growth by identifying personal strengths and weaknesses.
They need to enhance their knowledge regarding the area of their specialization to
ensure personal growth. For this, they are required to develop the essential skills
such as reading, communication, problem-solving and teamwork skills. It will help the
individuals in grabbing the opportunities in the job market to be hired at the positions
requiring competencies and enhanced knowledge and skills (Stek, 2022). They are
required to develop some professional skills as well such as decision making skills,
leadership skills and technical skills apart from the skills that are associated with
their area of specialization such as Law, Finance, Marketing etc.
In my case, approach to personal learning and development involves
enhancement of those skills that will assist me in professional advancement for
personal growth. I want to pursue the degree course in Marketing management to
become a talented and prudent marketing manager. To achieve this, I need to
develop some personal as well as professional skills. I am good at problem solving
skills as I solve the case studies related to marketing but I need to develop
communication and technical skills to become an influential leader or manager. I also
need to develop leadership skills and flexibility skills to be able to meet the
uncertainties in the future organization.
1.2 Identification of the transferable skills I have already developed
by attending this module
Transferable skills refer to those skills that are required for every job role
regardless of any particular job or filed. Individuals are required to develop these

skills for career enhancement (Herlehy and Armstrong, 2022). Transferable skills
include both soft skills as well as hard skills. Soft skills refer to fundamental and
essential skills such as communication, time management, teamwork, problem
solving, innovative skills etc. (McCartin and Wright-Mair, 2022). whereas Hard skills
include decision making skills, data analytical skills and technical skills etc. Every
individual must possess these transferable skills irrespective of their job roles and
specialization so as to ensure better career growth (Ofoegbu, Gaston-Gayles and
Weight, 2022).
In completing this project, I have used my already developed transferable
skills. I have used my Reading skills in competing the project by reading the
essential thoroughly and assessing the project. These skills have helped me in proof
reading the project quickly and I developed these skills at the academic level by
preparing the research based reports allotted by different professors in my university.
I have also used my Time Management skills in completing this module as I am
able to complete the project by the deadline and I developed these skills at academic
level by making proper schedules to complete the assignments while attending the
conferences and seminars as well. I was able to develop them effectively by the help
of my team leaders as well.
I have also developed my Teamwork skills that I have used in completing
this module as well. I have completed this module by the contribution of my team
members. I am good at these skills as I was able to interact with the team members
and give them my perception about the project. Right from the academic level, I am
able to collaborate with the team members and achieve the group goals effectively. I
have also developed Innovative skills before attending this module. I developed
these skills by reading different personal development books, business magazines
and business articles and journals etc. that provided me critical thinking about the
contemporary business practices. So, the above mentioned skills are the
transferable skills that I had already developed by attending this module.
1.3 Skills I would like to develop during my academic studies,
personal life and the workplace
By attending this module, I have already developed some of the transferable
skills but I need to enhance some more academic as well as professional skills in

order to ensure personal growth and professional advancement. As I am going to
pursue the Professional marketing manager course, I need to develop some
effective skills like Communication skills that will help in the future organization in
explaining the Market strategies to different clients and in giving the Marketing
presentation for a large audience. So I need to develop communication skills for
gaining confidence in speaking up in the large events organized in the big
organizations and to deal with the clients as well. I need to join personality
development programs to develop these skills.
I am also required to develop Decision making skills to understand and
articulate the outcome of actions. To be fit in the post of market manager, it is
required to develop critical thinking that helps the individuals quickly in analyzing the
situation in an efficient manner. It will help me in the future organization in making
decisions and strategies regarding marketing plans etc.(Schultz, and et. al., 2022). I
also need to develop the Leadership skills to become an effective and influential
marketing manager to be able to influence the subordinates and to motivate and
inspire the marketing team to achieve the desired objectives of marketing. Effective
leadership will help me in getting promotion in the future organization.
Every profession requires some sort of application of Technical skills by the
individuals in their specialized area. So is the case of Marketing manager as he
needs to learn digital marketing skills and other E marketing concepts (Atai, 2022).
So I need to develop some Technical skills to become a skillful market manager.
These skills can be developed by learning digital marketing course and any other IT
related course in Marketing. I also need to develop the Organizing skills to be able
to organize the assigned tasks for their timely completion. These tasks are needed at
the workplace to work in an organized and efficient manner.
