Introduction
Logistic is a process of managing how the resources are stored, acquired and transported
to their final destination (Waters, 2019). The business uses the logistic process to coordinate its
supply chain operations. It is responsible for getting right item in right quantity at right place to
the right customer (Marchesini and et. al., 2016). For this report Asda is a given British
supermarket retailer founded in 1949. The company sells wide variety of merchandise including
food and apparel, housewares, music, videos and books.
Task
Asda and its logistic activity
Asda is a Supermarket retailer it operates a chain of supermarket that sells groceries, food
and drinks product, health and beauty product, clothing and various other products. The Third
party logistics giant Wincanton has signed a contract with Asda for two year extension of
services. In contract, it covers warehousing and transport operation at four major distribution
hubs. Asda use double deck chiller trucks and low carbon dual fuel for delivering their products.
They also reduce emissions despite of opening new stores (Ramanathan and et. al., 2014). The
company said it would the use of approximately 19500 tonnes of “virgin” plastic. About Asda
packaging, they are focusing on reducing packaging weight by 27%, it keeps the product at best
longer in stores and at homes also (Nazir, 2019). The company has committed to reduce the
plastic packaging and have make sure that its all own brand packaging will be recycled by 2025.
Asda operates its warehouses efficiently, they make goods available when and where customers
demand . The Asda warehouse carries activities like receiving, transfer, handling, storage, ASDA
warehouse operations packing, expediting. ASDA delivers a quality goods across the country to
all stores and it is also growing online business (Warehouse and Logistics of Asda, 2021).
