Duty to rescue is the responsibility in common (tort) law in which an observer owes a
person in distress (Miller, 2019). This law relates to several circumstances and spells the
punishment which can be undertaken in a given scenario. It is important to note that common
law is never written but considered to be a practice of moral obligation. Common scenarios
include:
i. When a person creates a dangerous situation, which might make them to fall in
danger then they owe them rescue out of it in case they are faced by the danger.
ii. An employer is supposed to rescue an employee when certain circumstance arises
in work related issues.
iii. Parents to their Minor children. Parents have a responsibility to rescue/protect
their minor children from circumstances.
Business ethics refers to executing business policies in order to ensure trust within the
stakeholders and clients/customers (Terziev et al., 2020). This polices touch mainly on
controversial areas such as:
i. Corporate governance- which discuss, inside trading, bribery, discrimination,
social responsibility, fiduciary responsibilities. There is always are common law
in regard to these factors. For instance
Corporate social responsibility is a business management strategy that ensures that
business is aligned to societal social and environmental goals. This concept ensures that
business engage in acts of activism, philanthropic and charitable engagement willingly or due
to societal norms.
Moral philosophy shows how the society uses certain systems to come up with certain
ways to grade conducts as morally right or wrong (Willaschek, 2017). This encompasses the
study and justification of moral claims. This comprises of: Metaethics which tries to answer

whether a certain claim raised has amoral meaning or essence. It also includes native claims
which tries to answer between wrong and right. In addition, it comprises of applied ethics
which comprises specific ethical things such as homosexuality, emerging environmental
issues and capital punishments among others (Willaschek, 2017). It is however important to
note that all these facets of moral philosophy are interrelated. For instance, when dealing with
applied ethics one is bound to ask themselves if the certain concerned subject has any moral
meaning or essence, which is like looking into metaethics. In this scenario a common rule is
usually applied. The rule starts with stating facts from onset to when the incidence occurred,
critically examining the issue (s) arising from facts, then answering the issues to determine if
it’s the defendant is responsible, then arriving into conclusion on whether it was defendant’s
negligence or the action which caused peril.
Decision making is the act of choosing between two or more option based on
preferences, beliefs and values of the decision maker (Saitis & Saiti, 2018). Decision making
process normally combines seven steps. They include; identifying the decision to make,
gathering all information related to the decision, identifying all possible alternatives or
solutions to the decision supposed to be made, gathering evidence or looking into pros and
constraints of all possible alternatives, choose the best alternative to the solution based on
pros and constraints to the problem, taking necessary action and reviewing the action to
determine its effectiveness.
Moral ethics, corporate responsibility and moral philosophy are interrelated in a way
that they cannot be used separately (Willaschek, 2017). In addition, for anyone to come up
moral ethics they must looks into corporate social responsibility in a given society and come
up seek to understand or define the moral responsibility to be looked into the given policy.
This brings informs widely on need to rescue in a given circumstances.

These factors have affect decision making in any business. For instance, different
geographical areas have different cultural norms. They determine what is considered to be
ethical or not ethical. Given that the company has to operate in the certain area, decision
makers have to make ethical policies based on the given societal norms (Saitis & Saiti, 2018).
In addition, whenever a conflict arises, the given decision makers may make a decision based
on the societal beliefs and values. In case of calamities, the business decision makers may be
forced to engage in philanthropic matters not because they like them but simply because they
like but because that is what is considered right or necessary in the given society at the given
time.
In conclusion, duty to rescue raises various allegations which need to be critically
analyzed using common law. The claims are majorly assessed using policies made based on
a given business ethic, assumed corporate social responsibility of a given business in a given
society and moral philosophy within a given society. These majorly informs decision making
in businesses.
