INTRODUCTION
The project is based on functional areas in which various functional areas required in
business Organisation and skills required by the employees in order to work effectively and
efficiently. Through this report John can avail the information of the functional areas and the
skills which is required by Employees in Company. John is purchasing the local company, IOM
Electronics Ltd having 200 employees which is based on two sites in Liverpool and Manchester.
Business
Business is a process of running functional activities in order to gain profit and enhance the
growth of Organisation. To earn profit it requires an exchange of goods and services in terms of
money through which businesses maximise profit (Kasaev, Petrovskaya and Kasaev, 2019).
Business includes the Organised activities and efforts of employees to produce and sell of
products and services in despite of earning profit.
Functional Areas of Business
Functional areas are the business activities which allows individual to perform and operate
within its area of expertise. It is the activities which are performed in company in order to
accomplish the goals and objectives of business. All the functional areas work together and
interlinked to each other so that they can collectively achieve the business goals and objectives
of Organisation.
Key Functional Areas of Business
There are various types of functional areas in Organisation that works together in order to
accomplish the Vision and Mission of Business. Each functional area is unique and performs
different roles and responsibilities to each other. The Company cannot run successfully if any of
the functional areas doesn’t contribute their best efforts and performance (Shams and et. al.,
2018). The Functional areas in which employees work is human resource management, finance,
customer service, marketing, sales, research and development and Information Technology.
Description of Various Functional areas of Business
Marketing
Marketing is one of the functional areas of business operation in which the company focus
on managing and promoting the brand in order to grab the attention of more and more people.

The Marketing department in Organisation plays an important role while defining and managing
the brand image and value in Market. They focus on producing the promotional and marketing
materials so that they can increase the brand awareness of Firm. John must required Marketing
department in its IOM Electronic Ltd in order to manage the brand image (Duyck and Thubron,
2019). It is an activity of creating, communicating, exchanging offerings and delivering the value
to others. The main motive of marketing department is to attract and retain the customers by
fulfilling the need and demand of consumers due to which business can maximise profit and
succeed in Market.
Human Resource Management
Human resource management is another function of business operation in which their role
is to manage the employees and their activities in Organisation. They are responsible for
managing the life cycle of employees. Human resource department focuses on improving the
performance and efficiency of Staff due to which they can contribute their best in making
business successful (Lombardi and et. al., 2020). They recruit the right people for vacant job
position and also help in maintaining the safe working environment. Human resource
management also builds the relationship between the employee and employer so that they can
collectively work together.
Customer Service
Customer Service is also a function of business operation which focuses on solving the
problems of customers and satisfies their queries in order to make them happy and helps in
improving the customer service. They assist with orders, errors, complaints and lots of other
queries. The Customer Service is the department which interacts with customers directly in order
to solve the problems and queries.
Finance
Finance is another function of business which is required in IOM Electronic Ltd in order to
manage the inflows and outflows of Cash. The main purpose of finance department is to manage
the cash flows and expenses of the company and also focus on the Investment of Business. It is
important for the John to create a strong finance team that helps in maintaining the daily reports
of the cash and analyse the targets so that organisation can monitor the cash flows. The important

functions of finance manager are to estimate the amount of capital required in the expenses of
Company and also control the Finance.
Research and Development
Research and Development is also a function of business operation in which company hire
the research team in order to analyse the market and consumers demands. IOM Electronics must
have research and development team so that they can help in researching, planning and
implementing the new protocols and programs into the Organisation. They also helps in
identifying the needs and demands of customers which helps in producing and serving the
products according to the taste and preference of customers.
Sales
Sales department is another function of business operation which focuses on increasing the
sale of the company in order to maximise the profit and growth. The sales manager of IOM
Electronic Ltd helps in maintaining the healthy relationship with customers and also contributes
their best in increasing the sale of business by implementing various sales technique which helps
in attracting more and more customers.
Description of Types of Skills needed by Staff
Skills needed by Marketing Employees
The skill which is required by marketing employees is good communication skills and
critical thinking ability. These skills helps in attracting people towards the brand and products as
marketing manager directly communicates with customers and represent the products to
customers. The Marketing employees must also have an ability to think critically and produce
the unique and different ideas in increasing the brand image and value of IOM Electronic Ltd.
Skills needed by Human Resource Management
The human resource employees must have ability to solve the problems of employees in
Organisation and also they must have training and development skills which help in improving
the knowledge and skills of employees so that they can give their productive outcomes in IOM
Electronic Ltd. The human resource employees must know how to solve the problems and
handle the conflicts in business in order to make healthy and positive working environment (El-
Ghalayini, 2017). They must also have a capability to make effective decision in Company

related to the employees and business activities of IOM Electronic so that they can hire the right
candidate in Organisation.
Skills needed by Customer Service
The Customer service is the most important department in the Organisation as they directly
interact with the customers and solve their queries and problems. The department represents the
company by taking their order, providing detailed information of the product and also solving the
issues of customers. The Skills which is required in Customer service employees is listening
skills, confidence, politeness, patience and ability to deal with difficult situation. These skills are
essential for the employees in order to understand the need and requirements of customer related
to product and also the staff must be polities and confident while talking to people.
Skills needed by Finance
The Skills which is required by finance employees are analytical skills, mathematical
proficiency and problem solving skills. Through these skills Staff can easily manage the cash
statement of Organisation and also focus on reducing the expenses. The Finance employees must
have an ability to look all the option and present a comprehensive and understandable analysis.
The Staff work with large sums of money due to which they must have a skills of mathematical
proficiency which helps in compiling and analysing the data (Farrell, 2020). The employees
which are in finance department must also have an ability solve the problems and produce the
effective report with proper cash flows and inflows.
Skills needed by Research and Development
Research and development department helps in identifying the changes which is required
by the Organisation in order to attract maximum number of customers. The Skills which is
required by the employees in research and development is thinking and reasoning skills, pay
attention to detail and ability to think innovatively and creatively. It is important for the Staff to
think innovatively and creatively in order to produce the effective and efficient ideas that helps
in making changes in Organisation and its working pattern. The Staff must also have reasoning
skills in order to solve the problem smartly and quickly.
Skills needed by Sales
Sales department is the essential function of Organisation which helps in maximising the
sale of the business. The employees in the sales department must have strong communication

skills, ability to influence customers and relationship building skills. The Staff must have
capability to make convince and influence the people so that they can purchase the products from
IOM Electronics Ltd. They must also have strong communication skills in order tp attract and
make them understand related to the product (Key, Czaplewski and Ferguson, 2019).
CONCLUSION
From the above information it is being concluded that there are various functional areas
which must be in Organisation in order to run the business smoothly and effectively. These
functional areas help in achieving the business goals and objectives of Organisation. For
operating the functional areas it required employees which unique skills and knowledge that can
give their best efforts in accomplishing the task which leads to get success in Market.
