1.0 Introduction
The collection of activities such as planning, organizing, staffing, directing and controlling
is known as management. Every task in an organization is completed by management. An
organization has various functional departments which helps in completing all the task in an
effective and efficient manner. The purpose of making this report is to know about the business
and their functional areas a full stop along with this it also highlights key functional areas of
business organization. A small evaluation of several functional areas of business organization is
also given in this report. At the end where is types of skills are analyzed which are required for
employees to be able to work effectively in the functional areas.
2.0 What is a business?
A business proposed to an organization or enterprising entity which is occupied in
professional activities or commercial industries. In simple words business can be defined as
the organized efforts and activities of of person to produce and sell the goods and services for
the purpose of earning profit.
3.0 What is Functional areas of business - Definition
It is well known that human body has various functions which are performed by
various different organs. In the same manner business also have various functions which are
performed and managed by various parts of a business organization. For the purpose of
completing the entire task in an effective and efficient manner, the management had divided
business operations into various functional areas. The key functional areas of a business
organization can be said as management, operations, marketing, accounting, finance and
many more.
4.0 What are the key functional areas of a business?
There are various reasons organizing functional areas in an organization. Most of
important reason is a to keep the staff together of same skills. The staff members having same
skills can easily team up on a project which helps them in achieving the goals and targets.
Organizing the complete organization by functional area as a also provides a manager with
similar skills so that they can review the work done by the team members of a specific

5.0 Description of the various functional areas in business
organizations
5.1 Marketing:
It is necessary for every organization to have proper customers which help them in
growing the business and gaining profit. For the purpose of Sem they are required to make
and it was effective marketing and Advertising strategies. For making effective Strategies for
marketing and Advertising, marketing and Advertising department plays their role. This
department is not only responsible for promoting the business but it also leads to the
promotion of their mission and vision as well. They focus on the development of pricing
product packaging and creative materials for the target customers of organization. For the
purpose of knowing their target customers they also plays a role of doing research so that
they can understand the needs and requirements of customers. There are various
responsibilities of marketing and advertising department beach include defining and
managing the brand, serving as a media liaisons, content creation for website, producing
internal Marketing Communication for employees and social media management and
monitoring.
5.2 Human Resource Management:
Most important Assets of an organization can be changed as their employees and
recruiting the people in an organization is an important and difficult task 2 for the business
department. Human resource management department is responsible for recruiting the people
in an organization as per their skills and requirements. It is the responsibility of a Human
Resource Department to make sure the people they are recruiting have the right skills
qualification and experience which is required for the purpose of completing any specific
task. Along with this HR department is also responsible for managing various major areas

such as a training and development organization development compensation and benefits
labour and Employment relationship and many more. Because it is founded that the success
of any organization is totally depend on the employees of an organization.
5.3 Customer Service:
Customer Service Department is responsible for interacting with the customer. It
include providing answers to the enquiry is addressing customer concerns and complaints
along with the processing of orders. Customer service representatives are the first factors
which helped them in making the contact with the audience. The main and primary
responsibility of Customer Service Department is to make of good and healthy relationship of
business organization to the audience. It leads to the maintaining and retaining the
relationship of of business organization to its customers.
5.4 Finance:
Accounting and Finance can be said as the lifeblood open organization as it take care
of all the transactions related to the money. It is not possible to operate any organization
without the cash or money. There are two main responsibilities of accounting and finance
department. First one is that they have to maintain complete accounts of money which is
going in and going out as well. Second one they are also responsible for charge off payroll
and it also make sure that the employees are receiving accurate payment on time. Financial
statement of any organization is useful for making budget forecasting and various decision
making processes.
5.5 Research and Development:
As today world is the world of innovation and competitiveness. For the purpose of
meeting the competition in the market the organization is required to do the complete
research and development which makes able to know about the various new technologies
which are available in the market. It leads to the improvement of existing products and
introduction of new products. Research and development helps the organization in reducing
their expenditures by knowing about the new and advanced technology is a which are used by
the competitors.
5.6 Sales:
Sales department of an organization include set for collection of various activities and
processes which gives result in the sales of organization which help in round running
effectively and efficiently which gives a complete support to the business Strategies and

objectives. The primary roles and responsibilities of sales department is sales, sales support
or business operations.
6.0 Description of the types of skills needed by employees
to be able to work effectively in these functional areas
6.1 Skills needed by Marketing employees:
Interpersonal relationship skills: The marketer should know how to communicate
and collaborate with the other employees. Absence of a proper interpersonal
relationships in an organisation result in poor employer experience.
Content Creation: Online marketing need attractive content so that it may attract the
web visitors. The marketers have to give some shape and form to the content while
doing digital marketing.
6.2 Skills needed by Human Resource Management employees:
Communication: It is necessary for human resource manager to have proper
communication skills. As they are responsible for salary negotiation, conflict
resolution, employee handbook updates and many more.
Organization: It is not an easy task to manage the requirements of employees and
business owner. For the same purpose it is required to have proper organisation skills
in an HR manager.
6.3 Skills needed by Customer Service employees:
Persuasive Speaking skills: Customer service employees are required to make a good
relationship with public and it is possible only with the effective speaking skills.
Empathy: It is the best way which is used to understand the emotions of another
person and their point of view.
6.4 Skills needed by Finance employees:
A formal accounting qualification: For an effective employee for accounting
department it is necessary to have a formal qualification.
