INTRODUCTION
Functional areas is the unit which is performing the several task with the consideration of
attaining the organisational goal of the company. There are group of people who are working
with the supervision of their seniors and performing their job role(Seigler, 2017). This report is
based on the business case study in which an individual John is planning to purchase IOM
Electronics Ltd., for that functional areas and the skills required for employees will be covered in
their report.
TASK 1
Describe the functional areas in business organisations.
An organisation is associated with the several department that perform the whole
operations of an organisation in order to complete the particular task in an appropriate manner.
IOM Electronics Ltd, perform the operations with the help of their respective departments so it is
important for them to work with proper co-ordination so that they can attain the common
objective of the business. Several department are explained as follows:
Sales and marketing department: It is the unit which is responsible for analysing the
geographical location where the company can sell the products and services of the
company in order to increase the sale of an business enterprises. Marketing unit is engage
in the promoting the good and services by using the various promotional tools so that
they can cover the pool of customers in order to increase the sale of the company. It is
important for sales and marketing department to coordinate with the other department so
that work can be rightly distributed and accomplished. In context of IOM Electronics Ltd,
they can generate the higher sale by using the best promotional tools in order to advertise
their products in the large market.
Finance department: This unit is the backbone for any organisations as they are
concern in procuring and allocating of funds according to the needs of several department
so that each unit can perform their operations in an efficient manner by having sufficient
resources for them. They procure the funds from their investors and bank on a agreed
interest to be paid by the firm for a period of time. In context of IOM Electronics Ltd,
they must emphasis on using the organisational resource in an effective manner so that

Human resource department: It is the unit which is engage in the hiring of the potential
employees by using the best source of recruitment and the right method of selection in
order to get the deserving candidate who can perform their job role in an appropriate
manner with the consideration of attaining the organisational goal(Murakami, Matsui,
and Ohki, 2017). HR professional is also responsible for training and development of
the employees so that they can continue to learn and make the best use of their learning in
their operations in order to adopt the innovative techniques. In context of IOM
Electronics Ltd,, they must hire the capable that can be best suit in the specific job role.
Research and Development department: This is the unit which is involved in
researching and finding the new ways of doing business or make change in their product
and process in order to meet the current change in the market so that they company can
become the market leader. In context of IOM Electronics Ltd, R&D department is letting
the company to introduce the innovative technique in their business and can generate the
higher revenue and profitability.
IT department: It is the unit which involve in installation and the maintenance of the
computer networking so that they can operates their business operations with the help of
digitalization. They implement the artificial intelligence in their operations so that they
can store the huge data at a point of time and It help the IOM Electronics Ltd, to do their
business on online mode by they can catch the large pool of customers in order to get the
higher profitability and growth.

There are various skills which are required for an individual to perform their job role in
an effective manner which can take the company at higher level of growth(Moshashaei and

operational business. Finance department help in company to complete their task by having the
sufficient funds in their reserve so that they can implement the advance technique in their
operations. Employees must have the god communication skills ,team working, be a quick
learner and problem-solving so that they can bale to work in the right direction with the use of
their skills in order to complete the specific task with the consideration of attaining the
