Business functions involves those activities which are essential for running the
business. These are required in every organization irrespective of size as they are important to
achieve the desired results. This report includes roles of different organizational functional
units and how they are interlinked to each other.
There are various departments in an organization with different roles played and some
of them are discussed below.
Marketing: This departments is the centre of every business unit. It involves various
functions such as carrying out the market which is based on the changing needs and
preferences of the customers (Kirova, 2017). It also has the role to implement various
advertising and promotion practices for branding the product and services. In Tesco, its
marketing team is working effectively for successfully marketing its products.
Finance: The finance department in any organization has the major role to provide
resources to the other functional units based on the expenditure budget prepared (Finn and
et.al, 2018). The finance team of Bentley motors is highly professional and are also very
effective in cost management which has helped it in attaining success.
Human resource: The main role of human resource department is to manage the
workforce of the organization (Huemann, Keegan and Turner, 2018)). It also includes
providing timely training to the employees for further development. The HR department of
Morrison is very active and knows different ways to manage the workplace.
Operation: (Heizer, 2016). The main role operation department of the organization is
to manage the inventory of the organization and also makes sure that products are delivered
within the timeframe to end customers (Gartenstein, 2019). Bentley motors has a well-
organized operation management system which ensures effective and efficient functioning.
There is an interrelationship between all the business functions in an organization
which are discussed below.
Marketing and finance
In Tesco, marketing department after complete market analysis provides the report to
finance team with respect to the new marketing plan. Based on this finance team carries out
the cost analysis process in order to identify the cost involved in it. Then, finance team
allocate budget to the team. Thus, both are interlinked.

In M&S, the production department after analysing the marketing plan determines the
key requirements in terms of equipment’s or other machinery for the production process
(Marketing and its relationship with other business activities. 2020). Based on the
requirement finance team analyses the total expenditure and take allocate relevant amount of
budget and also manages invoices.
HR and marketing
The HR and marketing department of the Bentley motors are interlinked as and when
the need to recruit the required personnel emerges, the marketing team contacts with HR
team. Both the teams coordinate and prepares the job description as per the requirement.
From the above it can be summarized that the different roles played by the different
departments in an organization is very crucial in order to achieve the desired objectives. Any
of these functions cannot be eliminated as they are all interlinked helps in accomplishing
success.
