INTRODUCTION
The concept of marketing is important and it is necessary to focus on so that goals are
accomplished within time period. Main aim of this report is to understand the importance of
marketing & theories in business perspectives. Sainsbury, a multinational retail supermarket firm
located in United Kingdom. It is located at global scale and has number of competitors such as
Walmart, Amazon Tesco etc. This report comprises of role of marketing, finance, operations
productions & human resource and academic skills necessary for being a successful undergraduate
students.
MAIN BODY
Discuss role of marketing functions within business context
Marketing functions are important which are to be considered in proper manner so that goals
are accomplished. There are various types of functions which are discussed as follows-
Marketing function
Marketing function includes sale, promotion, advertising activities. In relation of
Sainsbury, they uses this function in order to achieve marketing objectives (Havemann, 2017).
Finance function
It is another function in which it comprises of activities like auditing, reporting, cross
checking of transactions etc. Sainsbury also perform this finance function as finance department of
firm manages & maintains all the record of transactions.
Operation & production
It is also crucial function of firm in which production is a function in which manufacturing
of goods and other activities are carried out. Whereas operation includes process in a way raw
materials are being processed into final output (Humadi, 2019).
Human resource function
It is a function in which recruitment, selection, firing activities are being executed. In
reference of Tesco, HR of a firm fulfil these functions with proper considerations.
Importance of functions
These functions are important as because with consideration of these function it helps them
in achieving of objectives in proper manner. It is duty of manager to make assure that these roles as
well as functions are properly fulfilled and executed.
Academic skills which are required for students
It is essential for students to become a successful undergraduate. To achieve this, various
skills are needed such which are discussed as follows-

Time management skills- It is an important skill which is needed by students as because
without managing of work and other activities it is not possible to achieve output. With help
of time management skills, it is easy to organise everything in proper manner.
ICT Skills- It is another crucial which is needed at priority level because in this information,
communication and technological knowledge is required. To become a successful
undergraduate students, ICT skills are important at every aspect (Khojaeva, 2020).

CONCLUSION
After a brief analysis above report, it has been concluded that it is essential to focus on
functions and operations so that goals are accomplished. So, discussions have been made about
functions of marketing & academic skills. It is being evaluated that it is necessary to focus on these
