INTRODUCTION
Business functions are the capabilities and processes which defines the work that needs to
be done by the company. The functions of an organization are the medium which helps an
organization to perform effectively through which they can meet organizational objectives and
maintain competitive position of the organization (Alyousef, 2018). There are various functions
that are performed by an organization which can relate to different different sectors of a
company that can ensure smooth operations are performed that will support in meeting the
targets in constructive manner. This report will be discussing about the various functions that are
performed in a business. The project will also outline various skills and competencies that are
required by employees through which they can effectively perform the business functions.
TASKS
Functional areas in business organization
The functional area of business play a crucial role and these support companies in
performing effectively and meet the needs of customers, employees, leaders and shareholders.
The functions of organisation are the capabilities and processes which define the work that will
be done by them. There are various functional areas of business which support companies in
meeting their targets and enhancing the competitive position of company. The different
functional areas that must be focused by business and IOM electronics are discussed beneath:
HR department- The HR department of an organization focuses on managing people of
the company where they have to perform various functions that can be related to
management of employees from the day of joining to the last day of working with the
company. The function of HR department is to focus on managing the payroll, managing
conflicts, maintaining safe and positive organizational culture, recruiting right candidate
for right job role, maintaining positive employee relations, providing effective training
and development, offering compensation and benefits to employees (Dano, 2019). The
function of HR department of IOM electronics is to recruit candidates who can be
valuable for the organisation and how they can support in accomplishing the targets that
can support in meeting competitive position of company.
Sales department- The sales department of an organization focus on following various
functions and activities through which they can generate higher sales that will support in

meeting the corporate goals and objectives of the company. The functions that are
performed by any sales department are to perform market research, advertise for sales,
focus on sales correspondence, manage packaging and warehouse services of the
company. The sales department of any organization have direct link between the products
and services of organization and their customers that will support companies in
generating higher revenues and in maximizing the profitability of business. In context of
IOM electronics, the company will be focusing on different setting sales targets, mange
warehousing of products and services, packaging of products and services and ensuring
sales correspondence and performing market research through which the company can
meet their sales targets and support in building and maintaining business success.
Finance department- The functions and operations that are performed by any finance
department is to focus on providing information to company through which they can plan
activities accordingly that can be managed under the available finances of the company
(Jabbie and Saffa, 2021). The functions of finance department is to manage the cash flow,
risk management, tax management, accounting, equity financial statements and prepare
budgets that can be used by the companies for performing specific task and activities. In
case of IOM electronics, the company will be focusing on performing various functions
of finance department that will support them in planning budgets that can be used by the
company in performing other functions of the organization. This department of IOM
electronics will be helpful in evaluating the financial resource that can be used by the
company while performing the other functions of the organization. This will also help the
company in ensuring smooth flow of functions that are performed by other departments
of the company.
Production department- The production department is responsible to manufacture the
products and service that are sold by the company. The functions that needs to be
performed by the production department are scheduling production, identifying inputs,
minimizing production cost, ensuring product quality, improving existing products and
turning raw material into finished goods that can meet demands of customers (Ros-
McDonnell and et.al, 2018). In case of IOM electronics, the production department
manufacture goods and turn raw material to finished goods where the company meet
demand of their consumers and this can be effectively managed by the support of other

functional area of business. IOM electronics will be focusing on manufacturing goods
and services through which they can deliver their products and meet demands of
consumers through which they can ensure organisational objectives are met.
Supply chain department- The function which is performed by this department is to
manage the flow of products and services from raw material to manufacturing of products
to delivering goods to customers. The different functions that are performed by supply
chain department of an organization are- aligning flow of goods and services, integrating
function, coordinating process, maximizing quality, customer experience and probability
of company (Serletis and Xu, 2020). This department of company will be focusing on
product development, marketing, operations, distribution, finance and customer service
which results in reducing the cost and ensuring faster production cycle of products.
Marketing department- This function of marketing department is to focus on defining
and managing the brand and organize a campaign through which the companies can meet
the marketing initiative of the company. The function of marketing department is to focus
on producing internal communication, managing social media, understanding market
dynamics related to price, place, product, promotion. In consideration to IOM electronics,
the functions of this department is to focus on promoting the products and services of the
company through which they can attract customers and also increase the brand presence
in the industry.
Types of skills required by employees to work effectively in functional areas
There are various skills and competencies that are required by an employees to
effectively meet the targets of different functional areas, some of these skills are-
Communication skills- Communication skills are the essential skills which focuses on
listening, forward thinking and focuses on maintaining a interaction through which the
right flow of information can be maintained in the company (Xu and et.al, 2021). An
effective communication skills helps in maintaining the flow of information and create a
strong interpersonal relationship through which companies can meet targets and ensure
effective performance.
Negotiating skills- These skills are essential in resolving conflicts in workplace, creating
value in contracts and supporting in maintaining effective performance of company
within the industry. These skills are essential in building better relationships through

which quality services can be maintained. These skills are important for employee
through which they can actively engage in the organization and this will be helpful in
maintaining positive organisational culture that will enhance the performance of
employees and overall organization.
Problem solving skills- The problem solving skills with innovative ideas and approaches
are essential for companies through which positive organisational culture can be
maintained (Yuan and et.al, 2018). This also helps in creating finding innovative solution
that can bring value to organization and support employees in finding right solution that
can resolve the issues within the company and support companies in meeting their
targets.
Critical thinking skills- Critical thinking skills are helpful for employees through which
they can promote personal growth and meet job satisfaction of their employees. These
skills will also support employees to clearly understand and avoiding limiting beliefs
which will encourage them to effectively perform and enhance the organizational
effectiveness. Therefore, such skills are essential as these supports in increasing the
quality of life and boost motivation level of employees that will support them in
effectively perform the assigned task and duties.
Flexibility skills- These skills are essential for employees a these support in overcoming
stress and mange to adjust with change quickly. This skill support employees to adapt
and work accordingly which can support them in reducing their stress and handle change
with more ease and effectiveness.
Commitment and accountability skills- The commitment of employees helps the
employees to perform best according to themselves through which they can contribute in
meeting business goals (Zhanlong and et.al., 2020). The accountability skills also plays a
crucial role as this can support in fostering employees to take ownership of their actions
that can be helpful in creating productive working scenario which can also enhance the
effectiveness and productivity of employees and overall organization.
CONCLUSION
From analysing the above mentioned information, it can be stated that there are various
functions and activities that are performed by a business entity through which they can maintain
their competitive position and meet organizational targets. The collection of different functions

generate profits and ensure competitive position of company within the industry. All the different
functions of an organization support companies in becoming a unit through which they can meet
organizational objectives and ensure increased efficiency of company that can bring various
