Report
AI Summary
This business research project examines gender discrimination at the workplace, specifically focusing on Costa Coffee. The report begins with a literature review exploring the impact of gender discrimination on mental health, employee morale, and productivity, referencing studies by Cavalcanti and Tavares (2016), Ge et al. (2016), and others. The research aims to analyze the extent of discrimination and its effects on employment. The methodology section details the research philosophy (interpretivism), design (exploratory), approach (deductive), data collection methods (primary through questionnaires), sampling (random), and data analysis (quantitative). A Gantt chart outlines the project timeline. The report highlights how discrimination leads to anxiety, conflicts, and decreased employee performance. The researcher utilizes primary data to explore the issue and suggests that legal factors and ethical practices are essential in addressing gender discrimination. The report concludes with a list of references.

TITLE
Gender discrimination at workplace
AIM- Analyzing gender discrimination at Costa Coffee
Objectives-
To understand impact of discrimination at workplace
To understand the extent to which gender discrimination affect employment
Rationale
Researcher chose this issue so that issue of gender discrimination can be highlighted so
that changes in policies happen which will help to reduce the impact of this level. The
information collected by the researcher is on the basis of primary data which means that the
information collected in this report is up to date (Cavalcanti and Tavares, 2016). This can be
helpful for other universities and publications as the information collected in this report can be
useful to them and can be extracted to make another report. Researcher has highlighted all
types of gender discrimination and how it influences or affects the performance of employees.
LITERATURE REVIEW
Impact of gender discrimination at workplace
According to (Cavalcanti and Tavares, 2016) many of the employees working in the company
has to go through mental health issues as discrimination on the basis of gender leads high level
of anxiety in an employee which is why many of them bursts socially or someone who keeps it
inside suffers from depression. Many of the people who suffers this becomes habitual of
alcohol, drugs so that they can have the confidence to face this issue. But it does not work like
that using alcohol and drugs on continuous basis will affect the role the play in the company as
they will not be able to think and process things. This issues also happens to the owners of the
company due to low level of employee retention in the company. Discrimination makes the
employees feel that they are being harassed which leads to high level of conflicts in the
company. This shifts the focus of the team from work to the conflicts and issues happening at
the workplace which will affect the productivity of the company. It will divide the team in two
parts one on the side of victim and one on the side of the person who discriminates people on

the basis of gender. It leaves a negative impact on the performance of the company. Due to
discrimination level of conflict increases which leads to decreasing in morale of the
employees. Members of the team avoid going to places and avoid people who they feel that
can engage in conflict. When the morale of the employees decreases then it leaves an impact
on handling the queries of customers (Ge and et.al., 2016). Overall this will affect the
productivity of the company as it is believed that if the employees are not satisfied from their
work or the environment of workplace then they won't be able to perform and give their best.
When people in the company tries to affect this kind of behaviour then the company must
understand that it will leave a drastic and significant change in the outcome of the business.
Employees need to consider legal factors when it comes to gender discrimination rather than
avoiding people or suffering from depression. They have the right to take the help of legal
actions. They are protected by legal factors if the company does not make sure that ethical and
legal practices are being followed (Montoya and et.al., 2019).
Gender discrimination and its effect on employees
In accordance with (Ge and et.al., 2016) discrimination on the basis of gender affects the
employees in many ways. People who goes through this are not able to think clearly in
achieving the results of their task. Many researches has concluded that most of the time it is
women who suffered from this aspect which literally breaks them and it leads to loose their
morale. Many of the employees join support group to overcome this issue or to gain the
confidence and be able to respond to these people. This aspect makes them scare of everything
around and they do not have any power left to stand on their own because they feel they do not
have any kind of support. This creates anxieties in the mind of employees and they release the
anger of some people on their clients or colleagues which disturbs the whole workplace and
affect any chance that they will be able to make friends with anyone. Heilman and Caleo, 2018
stated that Due to this some of the employees starts consuming alcohol or drugs on a regular
basis which is not good for their health and it affects their thought process and behaviour. The
behaviour they adapt may loose them their job because of which they may take another drastic
step. This will also leave an impact on their personality when they will try to look for another
job as they will be remembering all the experiences and the things that they dealt with can
happen again (Parker and Funk, 2017).

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
Research Philosophy-
Document Page
Figure 1research onion
With the help of this method the researcher gets the knowledge and ideas on the basis
of facts or by observing the facts. Researcher faced difficulties while gathering the information
as this philosophy was not easy to understand because there are many types of differences
available in this model. This philosophy works more on the observations and data which are
quantifiable (Heilman and Caleo, 2018).
Research Design-
This aspect is concerned with getting a answer to each question asked as it is planned
on these basis. Answers are collected by conducting a research by two methods and they are
qualitative and quantitative. Methods and strategies of research are linked with the data
analysis and collection of the data (Ledford and Gast, 2018). The type of research which was
taken by researcher was exploratory so that other areas can be explored and analysed which
give more relate able information according to the topic. The answers which are collected
from this method of research does not give conclusion to the report which forces the
researcher to change the path of the information and the answer. It still remains on the basis of
fundamental aspects which is not on the basis of evidence which are updated in the process of
research.
Document Page
Research Approach-
The approach chosen by the researcher was deductive research which helps to check
and test that if the assumptions made are valid or not. To find out that whether or not it is
deductive research hypothesis of research must either be confirmed or denied. In this method
factors such as migration of labour are linked (Taherdoost, 2016).
Data Collection-
This aspect is concerned with the collection of information from the sources which are
available so that they can take out all the measures which help them to find the answers. There
are two types of methods for collection of data and they are primary and secondary method.
To conduct the research method taken by researcher is primary method and through that
research is conducted with the help of survey monkeys and questionnaires (Taherdoost,
2016).. The primary method of research is divided in two ways which is qualitative and
quantitative. Methods which are related with the aspect of quantitative aspect is related with
calculations and mathematics whereas method of qualitative aspect deals with noticing and
observing the people such as emotions, feelings etc. basically all those things which are not
included under quantifiable aspect (Parker and Funk, 2017).
Sampling-
This aspect is concerned with conducting the research on the basis of selecting some
members of population as they have no other option because they cannot be approached
directly. This method is used so that a large area can be covered and for that researcher
specifically used random sampling. There is a reason behind selecting only selected members
because the no of people are very large and all of them cannot be included (Montoya and
et.al., 2019). In order to carry out this investigation on gender discrimination research will use
random sampling and will involve 25 managers as sample to answer the research questions.
Data Analysis-
Two types of methods for the analysis of data is that they are qualitative and
quantitative. Experiments, interviews, focus groups etc. is a part of qualitative data in order to
conduct the research with these method researcher needs to assess the aims and objectives.
Above that dealing with calculations, numbers and interpreting is a part of quantitative data in
order to summarize the findings of the data. Researcher has taken quantitative data for this
report.
