SDG- Gender inequality
One of the sustainability development goals that have been considered to address is gender inequality.
General inequality acknowledges woman and men to be an equal considering the impact of gender on
individual experience of living. The difference is generally raised from distinctions in cultural norms,
psychology and biology. Some of these differences are grounded empirically and some are found it to
be socially constructed.
Gender inequality has been identified in retail sector since years as the mainly in payment to women
and men are not equal and a large or significant gap has been identified. For example, in the retail
sectors there are large number of women working as store teams however most of the senior
management teams are found to be of men.
The statistics for economic inequality reflect the impact on income gaps, wealth gaps and poverty
gaps. In nation across the globe and in United States woman are still found to be underrepresented
considering highly paid position, high-level jobs and are largely working for low-paying jobs.
Moreover it has been identified that transgender and women of colour are found to be experience high
level of unemployment, poverty and economic hardship. Considering the impact on gender income
gaps female dominated occupations are found to be restaurant service and child care service whereas
the representation of women are only 5% for Fortune 500 firms CEOs. This reflects that the high-level
income jobs are only offered to men and the opportunity has not been provided to women equally.
This reflects that the women are considered to be at minimum wage workers instead of top
management profiles. This is specifically identified in the financial industry across the globe (Epstein,
2018).
