Introduction
The topic of current is the skills helpful for group work. Here, group work is regarded as
the collection of different individuals who come together in order to accomplish a common task.
It is stated that a single person cannot perform all the tasks efficiently thus teamwork is really
important for accomplishment of different tasks within business entity. In teamwork, individuals
possess different capabilities, skills work together for attainment of set objectives (Vercellotti,
2018). The present study is based on skills which are required to work in a group in an effective
manner. In this context, communication skills, leadership and collaboration skills are identified
as major skills to work in a group collaboratively. The present study discusses importance of
group work in life of a student. On other side an opposite argument against the topic is also
included in given assignment.
Importance of chosen topic in life of students
Students are likely to perform activities ain group during academics. Group work is really
important for students as while working in a group they get the opportunity to interact with
different people. With group work, students can complete the group projects which further help
in developing collaborative and interpersonal skills. In Group, students can easily complete those
projects which are difficult to complete on their own. They are likely to delegate roles and
responsibilities in order to make best use of skills and potential of each and every group member.
This skill further helps in taking leadership roles at workplace. In Group work, students having
different perspectives work together. As a result, they also get opportunity to get familiar with
diverse perspectives of each other. In addition to this, they also get the opportunity to learn from
skills, capabilities of each other. Additionally, there are ample of skills which are helpful for
group work. Communication skill is considered as one of those skills which are required for
effective group work (Zhang, 2018). With this skill, it is possible to facilitate open and fair
communication amongst team members. Apart from this, leadership skills is also required for
working in a team. During group work, each and every group member is used to a encourage and
motivate others in some or other way. It helps in development of leadership skills that also help
students in embarking on a successful journey in future period of time. Collaboration skill is also
considered as a integral skill for group work. This skill minimizes the probabilities of conflict

and ambiguity among group members. It is identified that group work helps in developing a lot
of skills such as communication, leadership, collaboration and more. Here, these abilities help a
student in successfully completing academic projects and activities. Apart from this, group work
also plays a crucial role in personal development and enhancement of a student. It improves the
level of confidence so that student can easily interact with other portion with great level of
confidence. Working in a group is really helpful for career enrichment of students.

In academics, students are required to perform a lot of task and activities in Group. They
can apply their skills related to group work in order to complete the task successfully. Group
work helps in developing a lot of skills such as communication, leadership, collaboration and
more. These skills can apply by a student in getting success in personal and professional life.
Communication skills enable students to interact with others in an impressive way. Students can
use this ability while delivering the presentation and interacting with their friends and faculties.
Apart from this, they can also embark their abilities effective communication while doing a job
in future period of time (Marchalot and et. al., 2018). Leadership is the another crucial skill
which is developed through group work. This allows students to direct, support as well as lead to
other team members while working in a group together. In addition to this, collaborative skill can
use for maintaining clarity amongst group members. Hence, group work is really important that
not only helps in developing a lot of skills but also played a crucial role in accomplishment of
project in systematic way. Group work is used by students when they need to complete a
particular task or project by implementing diverse knowledge & skills. Additionally, group work
can be applied in academic setting for completion of more complex tasks and projects. They can
apply the knowledge and skills developed the group work in professional setting in future period
of time (Yehia and Gunn, 2018). Here, abilities learned during group work can apply by student
in personal and professional setting. These skills have direct link with enhancement of overall
performance of a student which will help in gaining better career growth opportunities in future
period of time.

Group work is a crucial practice which is often applied in academics for betterment of
students. It also plays an integral role in skill development, career enhancement of students.

However, there are certain negative aspects of group work which also need to consider in an
effective manner. Group working changes the perspective of people. Some people become
careless about their roles and responsibilities. They start to take advantage of group working by
imposing their own duties on other group members. In addition to this, people also avoid their
roles and responsibilities (Bamford, 2020). They do not pay attention towards common goals.
Internal conflict is a major issue of group working. If, individuals of different personalities work
together in a group then there is higher probability of clashes, misunderstandings and more. It is
quiet difficult to get agree of all team member on same aspect. Here, internal conflicts hamper
team performance as team members are not able to concentrate on work properly.
It is seen that sometimes group members spend a lot of planning and organizing resources
rather completing the actual task. In group work, there are a lot of difficulties even starting the
work due to mismatch of perception of different team members. In order to meet this issue, it is
important to take significant time to know each-other before starting the actual project. There are
some people who only enjoy the accomplishment and do not actually contribute in success of
group (de la Fuente and et. al., 2019). Here, these people are not worried about the success of
group. They do not want to do anything but wish to take credit of accomplishments.
Unequal participation is also a major issue of group work. Majority of the people like to
work in a group as they need to do less work in group rather working individually. In a group of
10-12 people only 5-6 students take the work load. Rest enjoy the accomplishments and has
lower work load. This is a major reason of conflicts among group members. Here, some students
feel that others are getting the reward for the work done by them. This kind of problem generally
occur in large groups where people tend to refuse to do the work and other group members need
to manage their work load. Sometimes, working in a group is highly time consuming (Alimova
and Radjabova, 2020). Here, students are also required to schedule meetings with each-other
after class-room hours. In this context, it is imperative to coordinate with schedule of each &
every team member. It is analyzed that individual task can be accomplished within less period of
time as there is no requirement of setting schedules and arranging meetings with others.
Group learning is effective and also helps in accomplishing the complex tasks with
greater efficiency. It helps in development of ample of skills such as communication, leadership,
collaborative skills and more (Quesada and et. al., 2019). Still, there are certain negative aspects

associated with group working which limits its effectiveness. Group working develops conflicts
among team members. It is also time taking and also makes students less attentive.

It is concluded out of above mentioned information that group working is an activity
wherein different people come together for achieving similar goals. There is discussion about
significance of group working in academic setting. It is concluded that working in a group helps
in development of different skills such as communication, leadership, collaborative skills and
more. These skills play a major role in ensuring growth & success of students in future period of
time. Apart from this, students also work in group in order to complete the complex project in an
efficient manner. It is analyzed that group working become reason of conflicts and also makes
students less attentive. It is important to analyze the positive and negative aspects of group
working and rake suitable steps for maintaining effectiveness of group work in academic setting.
