Katy is a girl who lives with her parents in Dorset, but she has insightful learning
disabilities. Katy has complex health requirements, and she can only use a wheelchair due to
these disabilities. Katy cannot stay on her own, and her parents usually go to work meaning that
she needs someone to take care of her daily needs. Katy was taken to a day care center, but the
attendants could not understand her leading to dissatisfaction. The issue pressurized Katy’s
mother who even thought of quitting her job to satisfy Katy’s needs. Katy has different care
needs, but her parents can come in different ways of meeting these needs. Due to the presence of
limited time and resources, a care plan will also be necessary to improve on the satisfaction
derived. This paper will evaluate the care needs required by Katy, give a description of how
these needs can be satisfied, and these evaluate the success of the methods used to achieve
success.
Care needs
Katy is a girl aged 24 who experiences many difficulties due to her disability. Katy finds
problems in communication, and she can only use a wheelchair. Katy requires full-time support
from her parents because she cannot stay alone and she can stay with those who understand her.
But her parents have to go to work meaning that they cannot fulfill this requirement successfully.
It indicates that they have to take her to daycare, but in the daycare, nobody will understand what
she requires. There are different theories about care needs which can help in explaining why

Katy tends to behave this way, and she expects to become satisfied. Some of the approaches may
include the social assumption, human rights theory, and medical assumption.
These theories attempt to define disability and explains the things which are required to
help the disabled. They appear in various areas and view disability in terms of public health,
feminist and economic perspectives (Falvo and Holland 2017, p. 30). According to these models,
disability affects how people interact with their surroundings, but it is not a section of those
affected (Abel-Smith ,2016, p. 3). Disability is, therefore, a variable which is dependent and
originates from the gap which exists between the individual’s capabilities and environmental
demands (Bell et al. 2015, p. 670). Disability issues have different views from the public and
health institutions with most stating that these issues require special attention through the
dedication of resources.
According to the medical model, disability results from deviations from the normal
functioning of the body. Impairments, therefore, result from underlying physical disability
situated within the body of the disabled. Medical treatment can be subjected to the impairment to
try and correct the disability. Physicians suggest that disability is a physical problem, but it is not
a mental problem (Brekke and Nadim, 2017 p. 391). To people like Katy, disability is a lifetime
tragedy which is an unusual and extraordinary event. The model, therefore, suggests that
disability changes the entire life of an individual negatively. According to Thomas (2015, p.
203), disability has both functional and social consequences because they affect how people
behave and interact with their environment. The structure of this theory was developed in an
attempt to explain the implications of disability and how it can be corrected.
Another theory in this field is the model on human rights which explains about disability
in terms of their rights. International community suggests that disability should be incorporated

in the national rights and discrimination should be eliminated (Degener 2016, p. 60). The reasons
for the development of this theory is to prevent victimization, harassment, and discrimination.
The act can help in promoting the wellbeing of the disabled because they will have equal
opportunities in society as well as receiving the care needed to support their daily lives. Disabled
people are said to the ones who obtain more health inequalities and the problem with biosocial
identities than ordinary people (Franklin and Goff 2019, p. 100). In regards to this theory, for the
disabled to live independently, they require to be backed up by legislation and also receive full
support in their lives. It is evident that the disabled accommodate social and economic processes

Then the social theory argues that our attitude towards the disabled impacts on how we

As discussed in this text, Katy has a disability which requires full attention, but she can
only stay with those who understand her. There are different ways that Katy can be taken care of
to ensure she gets better contentment in the environment. The best care plan for Katy would help
in providing that she gets similar protection regardless of the person taking care of her. Attention
given can also be put into records for future reference, and the person can even get a better

identity, self-management and problems can be solved effectively. According to this paper, the
disabled should be provided with equal rights and resources just like other people. Therefore, a
care plan will ensure that the disabled will no longer have to struggle to survive in the
environment. For instance, taking Katy to a daycare never solved her needs because those
responsible could not be able to understand her. The best health care should be the one that helps
a disabled to have better survival and long term wellness.
Katy will require daily care meaning that while at work, Katy’s mother will have to
organize how she should be taken care of when she is at work. The first thing to do is to look for
a specialist who can be able to understand Katy both medically and her performance. For those
who stay with her are the ones who can understand her sign language, Katy’s mother can look
for someone who can be staying with her every day so that he or she can have a better
understanding of how she behaves. A Primary Care Physician (PHP) can be the best for this case
because he or she understands what Katy requires to be healthy (Ham and Curry 2011, p. 13).
Then it is important to allocate some funds to the care plan so that all the needs are met on time
and also ensure Katy receives all the necessary treatment and care.
Professionals who are passionate about his or her job would be the most appropriate
people to help in caring for Katy. To achieve all this, it is crucial to creating a personal budget so
that the disabled person receives the services all the time (Ku 2010, p. 1774). The personal
budget will also help in taking care of tax affairs, insurance, payroll, and legal affairs. Sometimes
the girl will also require other needs such as housing benefits because she will not be at home all
the time. Creating a personal budget will, therefore, help in the better achievement of Katy’s
needs.
How to meet the implementation plan

There are different ways that Katy’s needs can be achieved in the presence of limited
time and resources. Katy’s mother spends a lot of time at work meaning that she has less time to
spend with her daughter and the funds are also limited. Katy’s needs are complex and therefore
requires proper planning so that her mother can be able to do all the tasks without interruption.
The person responsible must be able to communicate with the disabled person and take care of
her needs adequately. The budget allocated to taking care of Katy’s needs will be able to take
care of her social and health needs.
To implement the care plan, however, requires the allocation of some personal time and
resources so that it can give the best outcomes (Oliver 2017, p. 10). It is always important to
support and take time to plan for the care process in a reflective and safe space (Rabiee and
Glendinning 2010, p. 830). Then Katy’s mother should be capable to get access to advise and
information which is timely and clear besides meeting personal information preferences and
needs. Then Katy’s mother should be prepared to and be aware of the expectations from the
service provider and the person who requires the care. Then it is essential to create a productive
relationship and a trusting environment with the people involved so that the care plan can work
effectively.
There are some needs which are essential in the care plan such as environmental factors,
nutrition, social activities, medication, and cognitive status (Rothman 2017, p. 143). It is,
therefore, crucial to ensure that these needs are satisfied in the short period, medium and even in
the long- period. For instance, the care provider should be aware of the type of medication
required by Katy so that Katy’s parents do not worry about taking care of her needs. The care
provider should be able to give the right dosage and at the right time so that Katy will not have to

suffer from no proper care. Katy’s condition requires all time care meaning that the service
provider should always have the necessary resources and follow the right procedures.
Another area that may require recognition is the psychological or emotional status for the
service user. The mental state may affect the general health of the service user meaning that it is
an essential area to address. Katy’s mother should be able to assess Katy’s symptoms of grief,
isolation, depression, or psychosis. These symptoms should be adequately evaluated together
with the conditions accompanying these symptoms to ensure that the best care needs are given.
In such a way, it is possible to identify if Katy is getting the desired care from the service
provider. It is also possible to prevent the effects of the service provider’s differing
interpretations because of training, experience and background experiences. These are vital areas
to examine so that Katy will get the best care needs and she will not have to struggle in coping
with the care provider.
Then nutrition should be accounted for in the care plan by ensuring that all the meals are
given on time and in the required proportion. In this case, when Katy gets the right needs, she

needs. It means that she does not have to burn calories in an attempt to convey her needs. She
will also be given her meals throughout meaning that she will gain weight due to proper care
from her care providers. It is also vital to assess if Katy has problems with taking her food so that
solutions can be provided on time. Looking at the needs of Katy will help in determining if there
is anything that affects how she feeds like dental problems and questions relating to her present
intake of food and fruits.
Then it is also essential to assess safety or environmental issues by evaluating Katy’s
interaction with the surrounding. It includes the analysis of how the stairs are, bathroom

accessories, heating, ventilation, and lighting. Other areas may consist of checking if the floor is
even because Katy uses a wheelchair meaning that she has to move in a flat floor. There should
also be proper lighting and ventilation in the rooms to ensure that Katy will not have to
experience problems with overheating. It is good to ensure that Katy gets the best care and also
ensure that she does not experience safety issues in her surroundings. Such things will help in
preventing injuries help to improve Katy’s wellbeing.
There are even some social activities that should be analyzed for adequate healthcare
(Smith and Goodwin 2017, p. 5). It is evident that changes in type and level of social activities
present may affect the cognition and health of the disabled. It is therefore essential to look at the
changes in social events for the disabled such as the type of current acts and current level of
disability. The assessment will help in exploring alternative sources of stimulation in the social
context. Katy can sometimes participate in some social and recreational activities like swimming
and attending the theatres to ensure that she gets fun and does not also feel lonely. She will even
feel satisfied with the care given to her meaning that she no longer have to complain about the
attention provided to her.
Katy may require a high level of care from the caregivers meaning that those to be
employed have to be highly qualified and should also be passionate about their job.
Psychologists say that people have different desires and need indicating that Katy has what she
likes and desires to do. In this case, Katy loves being with someone who understands her way of
communication and even what she needs. She cannot manage herself independently meaning that
she has to be monitored all the time. It will ensure that services such as bill paying to supervise
and hiring health care providers besides arranging for specified services are done accordingly. It
is essential to identify the type of care that the service user requires so that they can be satisfied

misunderstanding, and the service provider may fail to achieve the desired outcomes.
Katy’s mother will have to assess if all the requirements will be satisfied so that they can
get satisfaction from the care plan. It is essential because Katy will receive the needs in the short
run, medium and in the long term. Katy’s mother will also save time because she does not have a
lot of time looking after Katy if the care plan becomes successful because there is someone who
will take responsibility. She does not also have to spend a lot of resources trying to look for
people to take care of Katy all the time or taking her to the daycare centers. Assessment of all
issues including nutrition, social activities, psychological and emotional status, care needed and
medical requirements for Katy will help in satisfaction of Katy’s needs. The care plan will,
therefore, aid in solving Katy’s needs while using limited resources and saving on time.
How I will evaluate if the care plan worked
Katy has different needs due to her impairments hence requiring full-time support. The care plan
development is meant to help in solving the problems that Katy’s mother go through when trying
to take care of Katy. Katy’s mother has to spend all the time with Katy, but her job as a teacher
does not allow her to do so because it requires her attention. So the care plan would help in
giving her the time she needs to work and also have her leisure activities. Katy’s mother also
uses a lot of money to take care of pf, Katy, while at work because she has to take her to a day
care center due to her disability. The health care plan should also help in saving all these
associated costs and time spent while taking care of Katy. Some of the needs have been solved
such as saving on time, but others such as the satisfaction of Katy have not fully worked.

The care plan has helped in the improvement in Katy’s social life because she can associate
positively with the care providers and she is also able to participate in social activities. The social
events such as swimming and going to the cinemas have improved Katy’s performance, and she
now feels better and can even sleep better than before. It means that Katy’s life has upgraded and
her mode of interaction with the environment had become better and will no longer have
sleeping problems like when the care plan was not implemented. She can now sleep without
issues because she feels more satisfied with her surrounding and her needs are satisfied
accordingly.
Another achievement is that Katy’s mother no longer has to quit her job to take care of Katy’s
needs because there are caregivers who can provide these services. She was also under pleasure
because she could not come into the right decision on what to do with Katy. She did not have a
solution on how to take care of Katy due to the complex nature of Katy’s disability. Through the
health care plan, these problems have been eliminated, and the condition of Katy no longer
pressurizes Katy's mother. All the care is provided, and she has all the time to do her work
without worrying about the wellbeing of Katy.
Lastly, Katy no longer gets infections while trying to thrash because the caregivers understand
what she needs. It means that the wellbeing of Katy has improved and the weight has also
increased because she is given proper nutrition and is provided with the required services. But
the caregivers have not yet been able to understand Katy’s needs because her mother is the only
one who has stayed with her for a long time. It means that some things cannot be sufficiently
achieved through the employment of caregivers. Evaluating the performance of these areas,
however, will help in demonstrating what has worked and what is yet to work in the care plan.

But in this case, an individual health budget is the best because it will help in solving problems
associated with taking care of the disabled (Hutton and King 2018, P.15).
