Importance of franchising and licensing for the development of hospitality industry globally
The franchising and the licensing are the two important modes of making entry in the other
market which includes to enter in the different country and in different market. The franchising
means to take the name of some renowned company or business and use the name to expand the
business in the other different market (Sriram and et. al., 2018). For example- If The Shankly
Hotel wants to expand the business in some different country then they can take the name of the
hotel which is famous there and this similar name helps in bringing more people because the
name is already famous in the market.
On the other hand, licensing means to take the right of intellectual property of some other
business and use that right in the business in which the owner wants to make expansion. This
helps in making the expansion of any business which includes the expansion of hospitality
business on the global level. The main advantage of using the facility of franchising and
licensing is that they are cost effective of the business and with that any business can take the
market entry and with that they can also get the knowledge regarding the market as they are
taking the business name on the name of others. The older ones know the market already and
with that they can make the expansion.
How global development and the use of franchising and licensing agreements have made the
contribution to economic worth
Economic worth means the value which is provided to the economy of the country which can be
made with the help of development of the business on the global level which is done with the
help of franchising and licensing. The Shankly hotel can also contribute in the economy of the
country by making the expansion in different countries. The economic worth is created in the
following ways-
Revenue generation by the Franchises- It has been seen that business which starts with
the name of other business which is already established then the revenue generation of
the new business is also high(Elmeros and et. al., 2019). This is because when the
business starts with the same logo, name and products and services then people would
like to go in the similar places. This will go to the government of the both the country in
the form of taxation which helps in increasing the worth of the economy.
Employment- The expansion of the business with the help of these two modes also helps
in the employment opportunities for the people who are unemployed. Thus, when the

people will be unemployed then the business which are establishing their business in the
other countries will require people for the management of the business and this will
improves the employment rate of the country.
Different operational roles
The different operational roles which are there in The Shankly Hotel has been mentioned below-
Front Desk manager- The front desk manager of the hotel has the hug responsibility as
they have to manger the work and at the same time have to welcome the guest
also(Scaglioni and et. al., 2018). They have to make the necessary records of the guest
about the time at which they have made the check in and the time of their check out.
Housekeeping staff- The house keeping staff is basically indulged in doing the cleaning
of the hotel which is the most important and the required role in the hotels. They have to
work according to the requirements of the hotel and they have to make the rooms and the
area clean in which the visitors have the direct entry.
General manager- The general manger has to look after all the departments and also the
guest. There activities include to manage the departments of the hotel, to build good guest
relations, and manage the working in the hotel in a smooth manner. For that they must
have the communication skills and should have the skill of leadership.
Security staff- The security staff has to give the duty in the hotel both on the night and
day which is according to the rules of the hotel.
Skills required for the operational roles
The different skills which are required for doing the operational roles have been discussed
below-
Communication skills- It does not depend that which role has been assigned to the
person what is mainly important is that the personality which has the required skills
according to the requirements of the job(Wang and et. al., 2018). The communication
skills is very important in the hospitality industry and that too in hotels. The Shankly
Hotel also looks and employees those people who are having the quality of
communicating with others.
Multitasking- The person who is employed in the hotel must be having the quality of
doing multiple works. This is because in the hotel the work load can be at higher during
the peak season and if the person is not able to do the multiple task then they will not be

able to work in other manner. The Shankly Hotel always ask in the interview regarding
the person ability of doing the multiple task.
Attention to detail- In accordance with the communication the person must be having
the skill of listening(Sonnenschein, 2020). This is because there must be some important
clients which requires different service. At that time managers undertakes a meeting to
tell how the work has to be conducted and what are the things required to be done infront
of them.
Impact of skill gaps for the roles
The development of the skill is important for any individual if they want to make there
career growth good. The skills provide the potential to the person to develop their personality
and the lack of skill will not help in the development of the personality (Maslaric and et. al.,
2020). The hotel industry also provides some skills which much be present to handle the roles
effectively. For the front desk officer the person needs to have the skill of patience and good
organisation of work. After all this skill will only helps them to work in the proper manner. If
these skills will not be present in the person then they would not be able to hold the role which
has been given to them and this can also hamper the position of the hotel.
For becoming the manger of the hotel the person has to manager all the work of the hotel
and have to make the rules and regulations within which the work has to be conducted. If the
person is not having good communication skills then they cannot communicate with the other
staff as to how the work has to be done. It is also seen that the skill gaps also increase the cost of
training as the people who are employed has to be provided with the required skills which
increase the cost for the organisation.
Impact of skill gaps on the hospitality business
The hospitality industry includes many different sectors which involves the Food and
beverage, travel, hotels and many other. In this different people are employed according to their
capability to handle the work (Bolden, 2020). If the people who are employed in the business are
not having the skill then they would not be able to manage the work properly. For any sector in
the hospitality business necessary skills are required which can make the position of the business
growing. Then the skill gaps would not be able to understand the requirements of the people as
the things which they require. The hospitality business would like to employ only those people
7

who are having the skill which matches their job role. This thing of skill gap can impact the
number of employees which can result in shortages. If the staff will be less than proper
management in any sector or in hotel cannot be done properly and this will lead to decrease in
the revenue and success.
CONCLUSION
From the above report it can be concluded that the hospitality industry is the crucial industry for
every country as it is the main factor with which the countries can generate the revenue. This
industry is the suitable industry to spend some time with the family friends and to spend some
time with the different atmosphere. This is the only sector within which the individuals can take
time and visit some places which will help in cherishing their mood and will give them
happiness.
