INTRODUCTION
Business operations are the activities that are carried out by an organisation through
which an organisation can earn maximum profit and the goodwill of the business can be
maintained. This report consist of the information regarding the operations of the business and
the functions of the business.
MAIN BODY
Business operations
Business operations help the business in expansion, to earn revenues and in earning
maximum profit from their day to day operations. Business operations can be enhanced by
measuring the performance and to analyse the change which can improve the productivity of the
organisation. The organisational goals are achieved through performing various business
functions of accounting, marketing, service, retail and other industries. Business operations
include delegating roles and responsibilities, maintaining internal communication, optimum
utilisation of resources and creating a plan(Chatzoudes, D and et.al., 2015).
The business operations in different industries are explained below:
Retail Industry: The retail business operates with an objective to provide products and
services that are demanded by the customers and the price of the products are set
according to the willingness of the customers.
Service Industry: The business operations of service industry can be classified into two
categories which are front-end and back-end. The front-end business operations help the
business to increase the customer satisfaction whereas, the back-end operations of the
business help the business to recruit the right person for the right vacancy in each
department.
Manufacturing Industry: Through effective implementation of business operations, the
organisation can save time in manufacturing and shipping the products. Nestle is a
manufacturing company which operates its business functions to ensure to provide best
product design through effective utilisation of the resources. The basic function of the
company is effective planning and controlling the operations of the business through
strategically planning and monitoring the actions that are taken by the business.

Technology industry: The business operations of the technological industry can be
improved by monitoring the internal and external process that are carried out by the
organisation. This industry can also improve the efficiency by providing training to the
employee's through which the organisational goals can be accomplished efficiently and
effectively. Microsoft deals in technology industry which operates there business and
provide services in personal computing and intelligent cloud.
Functions of business operations
The functions of business operations help the business in strategic planning and executing
the plan in the most effective and efficient manner. The basic functions of business operations
are to maintain an effective two-way communication , to provide proper coaching and mentoring
through senior level management. The function of the business operations also involves planning
and managing the budget and to analyse all the supply and demand of the products and services
rendered by the organisation.
The functions of business operations of different industries are explained below:
Retail Industry: The function of retain industry is to maintain an healthy atmosphere in
the workplace, to prevent safety and security, effectively handling the cash flow and to
provide the best customer services. Marks and Spencer is one of the retail industry which
focuses on providing best quality, value and service to its customers through strategically
planning and through following the Top-down strategy.
Service Industry: The business operations of service industry is to produce the services
and effectively delivering the services to the customers. The functions of service industry
are related to suppliers, supply chain management and other business services. DHL is
one of the leading logistics company which follows strategic planning, coordination and
execution. The company ensures to provide efficient procurement services and also
focuses on providing best customer support to their customers(Lun, Y. V and et.al.,
2016).
Manufacturing Industry: The business function of the manufacturing industry is to plan
a product and transform the plan into finished product. This business function also
involves planning and controlling the goods and services that are manufactured.
