INTRODUCTION
Plagiarism is refers to as a type of intellectual fraud or theft which involves using words
of another person and passing them off by presenting it as own without providing credit either
accidentally or deliberately. This activity can brings up negative consequences to a person and
may affect their reputation (Seabrooke and Nilsson, 2015). This report is based on plagiarism in
context of business setting which puts light over the definition and relevance of plagiarism in
academic writing along with its type. It further involves relevance of academic integrity in
professionalism and consequence of lack of academic integrity along with ways of avoiding it to
improve writing and integrity in business setting.
MAIN BODY
Plagiarism is refer to as practice of taking credit for the words or idea which are being
shared by some another person. It is basically a conduct of intellectual dishonesty as it involve
the practice of taking credit over the work as well as ideas of others by representing as their own.
In addition to this, it also results into serious consequences like a suspension, expulsion or failing
grade to student. Plagiarism detection has a great relevance in academical writing as academic
dishonesty due to paraphrasing devalues everyone else's hard work. With help of plagiarism
detection the ideas and word of another person can be kept more secure. There are several type
of plagiarism such as direct plagiarism, paraphrased plagiarism, accidental plagiarism and
Mosaic plagiarism (Assiter, 2017). Among them direct plagiarism is one where a person copying
work of another person from word to word. The paraphrased plagiarism is one which involves
act of making few changes to someone else's work and then taking a credit of doing by own.
Mosaic plagiarism is a combination of above two which involve tossing several words, sentences
and phrases without providing attribute or quotation marks. Accidental plagiarism mainly occurs
when citation is missing from the content or incorrect source citation. This plagiarisms are
mainly occur when a research is not organised properly as when one fails to cite source
appropriately then individual is considered as having intention of taking credit over other's
thought. Internet has increased the plagiarism practices as with the help of this students get easy
access to paper database which they can download and pass them off or paraphrase by taking
credit of it. But on the other side internet plays a crucial role in making plagiarism detection
easier by giving rise to Turnitin and CopySpace that are creating for detecting plagiarism.

Integrity refers to staying true to own belief and moral standard of performing things in
right way and ethical manner. Integrity in business ensures that business person keep their words
and take full responsibility to perform work by remaining strictly adhere to moral code and keep
complete harmony in what one think, do and says about a particular work. Academic Integrity
has a great relevance to professionalism as it ensure a professional perform its operations
consistently and willing practices by complying with the guidelines of mission under the
obligation of ethical codes (McMurray and et. al., 2016). Professional integrity in business
environment support a company in performing well and gain trust or confidence among
customers which results into competitive edge at marketplace. Integrity plays a crucial for a
business growth and success as it support in building up a positive image of company within
marketplace. But lack of academical integrity may affect the reputation of company within its
marketplace as unethical practices not only criticised by the society but it may also results into
legal compliances where a business has to deal with governmental claims. This may destroy the
business as when the society get against the business in which it operates then it results into
failing stocks, resigning of employees, leaving customers and discontinuing of partnership.
These all issues get arises in front of a business when it lacks into academicals integrity as it
present negative image among public with a sense of fraud which brings a growth of business at
ground level. For instance, Starbucks has pledged to public about making fully compostable and
disposable cups three times in which it failed which was in 2008, 2012 and 2015 (Starbucks
offers $10 million for ideas on a better cup, 2018). But at the time maturity of the period, all
pledges prove to be fake and unsuccessful which shows about providing wrong information to
the people and customers of Starbucks.
Plagiarism is consider to be a most unethical practices which involves the act of
intellectual dishonesty. It is required to be avoided specially in business practices as the
information that customer get about the company is being used by another business then it not
only break out the trust of customers but also affect the reputation of company (Silbiger, 2016).
Hence, in order to avoid plagiarism an organisation must ensure that content use for promoting
and communicating about brand must be new and unique which gain customer attention. For this
company can use quotations which help in providing a theme to further discussion and the tag
lines use in quotation must be new and company must ensure that it must not be as similar to its
near competitors. In addition to this, a business must try to present fresh ideas for promoting its

brand and circulating information they want to communicate with customers. For this a business
must try to improve its writing and integrity within the information it shares. In order to improve
its writing a business must try to hire people with new ideas and knowledge so that content can
be presented in more fresh and relevant manner (Müller and et. al., 2016). In addition to this
when existing employees are coming up with new ideas then they must be appreciated and
rewarded so that more people brings up idea which support in creating unique and creative
content which help in differentiation it from others. Despite of this, business must also kept the
budget of research high so that proper investigation and thorough study can be performed so that
integrity with information provided can be maintained which is not similar to others.
CONCLUSION
From the above mentioned information it can be summarised that plagiarism is a biggest
mistake that affect the reputation of the writer and also leads to intellectual harm to some another
person's ideas. The plagiarism has increased with the increase in access of internet and
information provided by it which directly influence the academic integrity for a business that
harms its reputation in marketplace. Hence it must be avoided by improving writing skills and
ensuring the avoidance of copying others' word.
