Discussion Board Post
AI Summary
This discussion post examines the integration of the Internet of Things (IoT) and business intelligence (BI). The post summarizes a peer-reviewed article focusing on IoT's role in automating business processes and highlights the importance of cloud computing for accommodating data growth. The summary emphasizes the use of IoT to manage processes without human intervention and addresses challenges associated with technology implementation. It also touches upon the application of business intelligence through IoT in the medical industry for patient monitoring. The post includes references to key articles and technologies relevant to automating business processes through IoT, and it discusses the potential for collaborative business environments, cost-effective solutions, and open frameworks to support effective business operations. This assignment is a response to a discussion question related to a PA2 assignment requiring research and summarization of a peer-reviewed article and its industry application.

The article “Business intelligence architecture based on Internet of Things” focuses on
the use of technology such as the Internet of Things (IoT) to automate business processes. Han &
Zhang (2013) argues that through the use of the Internet of Things (IoT), it is possible to collect
and send data in real-time. The article holds that cloud computing and the Internet of Things is
the only modern design technology which can help to accommodate future growth of data.
Important to note is that IoT presents today’s business with an opportunity to manage various
processes without human interventions. Turab (2017) supports Business Intelligence (BI)
concepts by discussing technologies that make the implementation of IoT successful.
Technology implementation in business processes is coupled with several challenges. To address
such challenges, Marjani et al., (2017) evaluate the influence that business intelligent has on both
IoT and cloud computing.
The most important aspect of the article is the evaluation of IoT and its ability to
maximize the integration of different type of systems (Aly, Elmogy & Barakat, 2015). The
quality of data in the modern world has been on the rise due to the digitization of business
processes. It has been noted that through use of business intelligence and IoT, it is possible to
develop a collaborative business environment, provide business with solutions at very low costs
and provide an open framework which supports effective business operation. Application of
business intelligence through the use of IoT has been adopted in the medical industry to monitor
patients health conditions while at home (Wang & Alexander, 2016). As a result, hospitals have
been decongested by eliminating frequent patients visits to hospitals for medical check-ups.
According to Yerpude & Singhal (2017), such business processes by highlighting different
technologies which can be used. Finally, the article points at factors and technologies that
modern business should consider to automate business processes through IoT.
