The report has outlined the significance of business intelligence at different level of the
organisation for making quality decisions, and data analysis. It is the strategy driven by
technology and applications with the help of which strategic planning can effectively be
implemented that support accurate and reliable strategic decisions. In the current report, the
business and supporting process is discussed in the context of A&E of East Lancashire hospital.
The A&E has employed highly qualified and experienced professionals to offer the medial
services to the patients in emergency and accidental cases. The report has also discussed the BI
functionality, tools and techniques along with examples to determine its role in effective
decisions making and increased business efficiency. However, there are some legal issues are
also discussed that are required to be considered by A&E while implementing BI for its business
data management.

The business process includes the collection of a series of tasks, completion of tasks ensure
attainment of goals and objectives of the organisation. It must involve a defined set of inputs to
get a single quality output for the effective services to the patients. Such inputs help to add the
value to the service outcome of A&E. On the other hand, supporting process is performed to
improve the outcome of primary business processes (Business Intelligence, 2019). It does not
produce the final outcome of the business process at A&E; rather it contributes indirectly to the
value addition of final services. Supporting process includes management, configuration,
documentation, auditing training and verification process at A&E department of East Lancashire
hospital.
The present task focuses on the A&E department of the hospital that provide services regarding
emergency and accidental treatment. The supporting process is carried out with the help of
dedicated personnel, like, doctors, nurses, medical team, etc. that are above 25 in number. All the
personnel are qualified and trained in providing treatment to the employees in emergency and
other cases. There are three phases in which the entire business process is divided which are
effectively carried out with the help of supporting process (IşıK et al., 2013). The initial phase
begins with the registration of patients, and after then they have to wait for getting room
available for them. In this phase, patients have to wait for around one hour and ten minutes or
even more time to get the room available.

In the present task, the data regarding patients are classified into four categories which are based
on the level of emergency and acuteness of the case. The first category is of the patients that
require immediate emergency treatment on arrival at the hospital (Different types of data, 2019).
Hence, the supporting team can attend eight patients per day on an emergency basis. In the
second Group, A&E concerns on those patient that require emergency treatment but are not
under any risks. Therefore, 33 patients can be attended by the medical and supporting team to
treat them and offer quality services. When the level of emergency for the patients is low, then
they will be classified under the third Group that requires around 2 hours to treat them (Larson
and Chang, 2016). The last degree is for those patients who arrive at the hospital without any
emergency case and hence, around five patients can be treated in this Group at A&E hospital.
The treatment of patients is also done on the basis of path information in which patients are
categorised based on the emergency and symptoms level. Each path involves supporting
members and shared equipment and technical resources to offer the best medical treatment to the
patients. In the red path, those Group 1 and two patients are admitted that might be hospitalised,
the orange path includes patients of group 3 that does are not facing severe medical symptoms.
Gree path is for the patients who needed light surgical intervention while the psychiatric path is
for the treatment of psychiatric patients (Wang et al., 2018).

In the Lancashire hospital, A&E department is highly supported by qualified and technical
