As all the followers are looking at the leader. So, it is the duty of a leader to be enthusiastic and
positive. Positive behaviour within the organisation helps to create a positive environment.
Employees will work hard in the positive situation which helps the organisation to develop the
business growth. For instance, instead of saying the bad performance of the employees in the
last month, if the leaders say that, it may not be the profitable month for the company but try to
make this month as the best and profitable month. These kinds of speeches help the workers to
work hard and accomplish the organisational objectives.

Be confident while executing any critical situations. Great leaders are confident while
handling any vital situation. It helps the employees to stay motivated.
Motivate others
One of the most important roles of a leader is to motivate others. According to the great
leaders, workers performance is completely based on their motivation. If the workers are
motivated all the time, it will enhance the productivity of the organisation. So, it is the
responsibility of a good leader to motivate their workers all the time and maintain a positive
work environment within the organisation. In order to motivate the workers a good leader
needs to provide the employees with rewards according to their performance.
Take suggestions from the employees
In order to enhance the leadership skills, a leader should take decisions from the employees.
Great leaders always want the decisions of the employees so that the employees think that they
are also important for the organisation. Apart from that, a leader is not always correct; he/she
also needs creative ideas in order to execute the difficult situations. So, in order to manage the
situation, a leader needs suggestions from the employees.
Handling the conflict situation
Another most important aspect in order to enhance the leadership skill is conflict management.
Sometimes, it happens that both the statements of the management team of the organisation
and the workers are different. In that situation, the leaders play a pivotal role in order to
execute the situation. At that time, great leaders take both the statements and try to draw a
common conclusion.

All the above-mentioned points help to enhance the leadership skills of a person. Apart from

According to one of the most popular leader, entrepreneur and the founder of Amstrad, Lord
Alan Sugar, mostly people does three mistakes about leadership and management:
Mistake-1
Generally, everyone uses both the terms “leadership” and “management” alternately. This
statement alteration defines that they do not have in-depth knowledge regarding these two terms.
They do not even know the functionalities and roles of both of them.
Mistake-2
Mostly, everyone uses the term “leadership” in order to place the character at the top of the list.
After putting the leaders at the top of the hierarchy, people generally construct the management
structure and allocate the job according to the hierarchy. According to Lord Alan Sugar, it is
also a big mistake as well as deceptive.

Mistake-3
According to Lord Alan Sugar, mostly people think that “leadership” is a character development
program and called it as presence or charisma. As some people have good presence of mind and
appearance, they usually think that individual can offer leadership which gets the rest into
trouble.
4. A self-reflective approach to developing your own personal leadership style
This work has enabled me to understand the different roles of leadership to drive an organization
and the importance of such roles. It has given me an idea about the difference between leadership
and management. This has developed an in depth knowledge about the qualities and theories of
good leadership. To be a good leader a person should have a proper vision, knowledge,
confidence and persistent charismatic nature who can communicate with others maturely. It also
helped me to learn that how in crucial events such as sales drop; the famous business leaders
have directed the management and workforce to do good business and making a profit without
raising any event of conflict.
Based on the above discussion, it is clear that leadership is a basic quality that a manager needs
to have to drive an organization in a positive way. It is interrelated with the management skills of
the organizational manager to direct the employees in a right way. Therefore it is important to
understand the theory and practices done by other successful leaders and managers of the world
and develop own personal leadership style to progress and be a successful leader in future. This
study has developed a sense and understanding of the subject in me and therefore I have
identified some approaches that will be helpful for me to develop my unique personal leadership
style. The term reflection is not a personal process. Rather it is a collaborative approach as it
involves experience along with uncertainty. It demands specific inquiries about the special and
important components that are essential for a specific business. This also reflects the personal
Document Page
values, beliefs and perspectives etc. through a reflective assessment, clarity is found about
different aspects. For this clarity of self and self capability some questions needs to be asked to
self to realize own potential of making a good leader and if the person has the ability to take
good and timely decisions through which the company can make good moves across various
cases. During my own self-reflective approach, I have penned down the following questions for
me to understand my capabilities as a leader and drawback so that I can improve over those
areas. These questions are:
1. What have I learned so far from the study
2. How I felt about it and what were my thoughts
3. How can I explain my experience
4. How can I reflect my own learning into my actions?
5. What is another person’s reaction about my feelings and actions?
6. How was my reaction and behaviour?
Asking these questions make a great self assessment and the answers can effectively influence
my personal experience. If the answers are positive, then it makes me a great leader, but if not,
then I need to improve myself over the topic. It is a common practice that the head-hunters of top
class companies search for personalities with good leadership skills. Therefore developing such
skills will help me to shape my own career. According to British management consultancy
Ashridge, though UK has many world famous companies and so thousands of managers, but it
lacks good leadership personalities (Ashridge Strategic Management Centre. 2019). Therefore
analyzing myself will help to be the person, the market would sought after.
To develop my own personal leadership skills, I have listed the following approaches to make
use of:
Ask for feedback: Asking for feedback can help me to understand what others think about my
leadership style and therefore lot guidance I can have about my pros and cons of leadership style.
Not only can the juniors in rank, but also seniors help me with their own experience and
suggestions about this.
