Information overload is key leadership challenge that is faced by Tesco. In the following
literature review, there will be a discussion on this current leadership challenge faced by the

(Rosenbach, 2018). The main aim of the company is to provide the customers with a high quality
services and make them feel that they are receiving value for their money. For every company
the final goal is to be the number one company in the market of its kind. Thus in order to reach
that pinnacle of success the company has to make effective changes in the leadership styles of
the organization and manage the people working there, from administrators to assistants.

The main objective of this research is to discuss the current leadership challenge faced by the
company Tesco and how it can overcome this challenge in the near future (Gallos, 2014). First of
all, this challenge will be pointed out and then there will be suggestions for each of those
challenges. The main objective is to highlight a current leadership challenge faced by the

further aim is to make the company aware about the necessity to improvise its leadership style.
So the above mentioned points are the main objectives of this project.

proved valuable for the company in the time of crisis and when there is urgent requirement of
ideas and there is a need of immediate response.
Literature review
In the presented research Johnson, (2017) is mainly focusing on the current leadership problems
faced by the company. Actually, the very first question is what leadership is and what its various
types are. Leadership basically is the process of motivating, influencing and inspiring other
people to do the work in a better way and ultimately take the organization on the path of success.
This is basically all about coaching or training other people, developing certain skills in them.
They clients are to be treated with respect but eventually they must be challenged. The main
objective of a leader is to build up a strong team and fulfill all the goals of the organization.
There are different types of leadership styles, ranging from autocratic, through democratic to
laissez-faire. In order to achieve successful leadership, there is a need to be visionary and curious
about the coming future of the company. In today’s time the main work of a executive is to build
up a strong team and face the challenges which the company encounters from time to time, also
there should be adaptation in the working as per the changes in the recent technology, thus
setting up a strong business firm (Sreejesh, Mohapatra and Anusree, 2014). It can be noticed that
being a leader is much more difficult today than it was five years ago. The current leadership
status of the company Tesco needs to be reformed. As adapting according to the situations; never
go out of style. Here are some of the top leadership challenges faced by the company, Tesco and
its business executive in the market today and there are certain recommendations for its leader to
meet these challenges in the near future:
One of the major challenges which Tesco is facing is that of the information overload.
Now the managers have access to an extensive amount of data. They have databases of the

company filled with information every day. Although it helps a lot in the decision making
process, but sometimes it becomes overwhelming. Only the strong leaders know how to extract
the best out of the information they are provided with. They need business analysts who can aid
them in this process.
There is a need for wider ranging knowledge. There is a division of work between the
various executive but they lack the wide knowledge of the work in the other departments because
they remain confined to their particular departments (McNabb, 2015). But in today’s times it
becomes important for the leaders to have a broad view of the work they are doing. It is one of
the traits of a successful leader that he gets involved into inter-department activities; they should
extend their duties to the other departments also.
There is a demand for skilled talent. In today’s time, the demands of various
professionals have increased and it becomes even harder to find top performs. In order to
overcome these problems, the leaders should have strong communication skills (Hair,
Wolfinbarger, Money, Samouel and Page, 2015). They should be able to communicate to their
colleagues and remove all the possible communication barriers. They should be able to clearly
communicate the mission of the company to everybody and should always be prepared for the
greater responsibilities. They should also try to get a feedback for their communication styles.
One more thing, the firm needs to be aware about the competition which it has to eventually face
in the market. In order to compete with these challenges, it has to make suitable challenges
according to time. There is strong need to adapt new technology.
Research methodology
Quantitative research methodology has been used while writing this article. It is a broad process
which is further segmented into various phases (Bryman, 2017). Literature review questionnaire

is the tool that has been utilized for generating and collecting and then analyzing the collected
data.
Data collection method
In this research, researcher will use both primary and secondary data collection methods for
gathering the information regarding key challenge of leadership in Tesco. In this way, primary
data would be gathered through survey through questionnaire and secondary data would be
gathered through literature review. Along with this, secondary data would be collected through
different general article, text books, academic publication and online websites (McNabb, 2015).
Sample and Sample size
Simple random probability sampling method will be used to choose the sample from large
number of population on random basis. It would be beneficial for avoiding the biases from
research. Researcher will select 55 employees of Tesco as a sample size from different
geographical areas of UK for conducting the survey through questionnaire.
Data analysis method
In this research, gathered data would be analyzed through statistical data analysis method. This
method would be selected for assessing the means, regression and correlation between the
variables. Furthermore, Ms-Excel software would be used to present the bar charts, column
graphs and table in order to understand the data in a comprehensible way.
Research limitations
After analyzing the above literature review, it can be stated that the company has to make
effective changes in its leadership styles to face the problems prevailing.
