To run a successful business, it is vital that the employees and the leaders of the
organisations have good linguistic skills. English is a popular language that is spoken in various
countries; hence, it becomes extremely important to be able to speak fluently in proper business
terms. Business English is the proper use of written as well as spoken English that uses proper
words, organisation and the appropriate tone for conducting business1. In this essay, the
linguistic elements of the language and the use of social networks in enhancing a business is
reviewed.
There are certain formalities that an employee has to maintain while communicating his
or her ideas to the managers. They have to have the proper choice of words, and organize it in
such a way that the clients and the supervisors are able to understand effectively in order for the
business to profit. Business English requires dependency on facts and information that would
help in getting the job done right2. Many studies have shown that language diversity has become
the need of the hour that influence the management decisions in almost every multinational
corporation. However, English remains the foremost important language and therefore it is
important to understand the linguistic elements of the language that enhance business English.
One of the most important elements of business English is verbal communication. When the
language is standardized and conventional in nature it helps the employees as well as the
mangers to stay prepared for every possible twist and turn in the conversation because of the
predictability of exchange in information3. In order to avoid misunderstandings and conflicts in
the work place, using of proper linguistic skills and elements is extremely vital. The different

linguistic elements are phonetics that is the study of sound in speech and morphology, which is
the study of how words are formed. The other linguistic elements comprise of syntax that is the
study of how sentences are formed, semantics, which is the meaning of the words and pragmatics
that is understanding where to use the language skills4. Each of this linguistic element has an
important role to play in the formation of language. When these linguistic skills are properly
applied in the business language, the ideas that an employee or the manager wants to present is
highlighted lucidly and vividly.
Another way that the businesses have used language in a prolific manner to improve their
marketing and business skills is through social networks. In this age of information and
technology, all the businesses are using social media to their advantage. People from all over the
world are connected in one platform that makes it the companies to present their innovative
marketing ideas in front of the customers5. It is an effective marketing strategy. Because of such
popularity of social networking sites, businesses are also being creative with the usage of
language to market their ideas. For example, when a company chooses to advertise on a social
media application like Instagram, they use hashtags (#), and new amalgamation of words that are
in trend with the generation with whom the application is popular. Similarly, when advertising
on Facebook or twitter, the companies use vocabulary, which is popular with the customers.
When the companies use such languages to market their ideas, the customers are intrigued by the

Thus, it is the way through language that the organisations are able to carry on their
businesses in an effective way. Business English and literature have thus come a long way in
recognizing the importance of using proper language. Language has helped them in establishing
a bond that is extremely vital for the survival of businesses in the market.
